Imagine if your mother was kidnapped and brutally murdered when you were still a teen, and the only thing left of her in this world is about to be auctioned off to the most disgusting, evil bastards on the planet.
I know it's a pretty specific scenario and it most likely hasn't happened to you.
But just imagine how I feel right now.
I look at Rafa.
His jaw is clenched tight. The muscle in his cheek keeps twitching like he's barely holding himself together. Angelo's fingers are laced together in front of him, but his leg won't stop bouncing under the table.
We're all on edge.
"And now… our final item of the evening," Giovanni announces.
The entire hall quiets down instantly.
He walks slowly around the glass case, admiring the jewels. His reflection glides across the polished surface as he studies the necklace inside with this sick kind of reverence.
