145. Mei at Thirty-Nine Degrees
After reminding Kiana not to slack off and to recite the 'Sword Heart Mantra frequently,' Yun Ling returned to his small house.
Mei had already taken a bath and gone to bed, probably too exhausted from cultivation to remember their promise.
Yun Ling didn't mind; knowing Mei's personality, she certainly wouldn't easily go back on her word. Perhaps one missed promise with him would give Mei more opportunities and reason to sleep with him.
After a quick bath and a quick look at the 'Void Unity True Technique', Yun Ling also drifted off to sleep.
The next day, Yun Ling stretched. He didn't sleep in just because it was the weekend; thanks to his increased mental strength, five to six hours of rest was enough to sustain him for the day.
Glancing at the time, he saw it was still early, so he got up to prepare breakfast.
However, even after breakfast was ready, there was still no sound from Mei's room.
This puzzled Yun Ling; she was usually awake by this time.
Yun Ling knocked on Mei's door, but there was still no response.
"Mei, I'm coming in." Yun Ling pushed open the door and peeked inside.
Mei's brows were furrowed, her cheeks flushed, and she looked extremely uncomfortable.
"A fever?" Yun Ling stepped forward and placed his hand on Mei's forehead.
It was probably around 39 degrees Celsius.
Her pajamas were completely soaked.
"Did you take a shower without drying off yesterday?" Yun Ling scolded Mei, taking out a towel as he did so.
"Um... I thought it was nothing..." Mei replied weakly.
"Idiot..." Yun Ling couldn't help but scold softly, carefully wiping the sweat from her neck with the towel to make her feel better.
"I'll have Yuna come and change your clothes. You're soaking wet; you might get hurt if you stay like this."
Considering Kiana might still be asleep, Yun Ling took out his phone, ready to text Yuna.
But Mei gently pressed his hand down, her eyes filled with a hint of evasion and shyness.
"I...I'd better not trouble Yuna-san..."
Yun Ling gasped. Was this another test for the executives?
Which executive could withstand such a test?
"Hmph...Mei, do you know how tempting you are right now? Your words make me want to try what a 39-degree Mei tastes like."
"If Mei is really that impatient, I think you'll be more comfortable waiting until you're better."
Yun Ling suppressed the fire within him, choosing the latter between being a beast and being worse than a beast, and texted Yuna.
Hearing Yun Ling's words, Mei's face turned almost blood red.
Although that wasn't what he meant, Mei's words certainly tested one's self-control. She trusted Yun Ling wouldn't do that, which is why she entrusted him with the task of changing her clothes...
However, while she trusted Yun Ling, he didn't trust himself.
"Is Mei sick...?" Yuna quickly arrived and helped Mei change her clothes.
"Thank you, Yuna," Yun Ling said to Yuna.
"No, no... It's so good to be able to help you, Yun Ling..." Yuna quickly shook her head, a smile playing on her lips.
"Let's have breakfast together. It seems Mei won't be able to get up today. I'll go to the pharmacy and bring her some medicine later."
Yun Ling had Yuna sit down to eat breakfast and then called Kiana over.
The two of them took care of Mei while Yun Ling went to buy the medicine.
Although he, with the power of Leviathan, could actually adjust Mei's body by regulating various hormones, he had never tested it on humans before, so naturally, he couldn't let Mei be his first test subject.
As for the techniques in the 'Void Unity True Technique', there is some medicine involved in the Miscellaneous Studies section, but he hasn't yet mastered it.
Additionally, the methods employed are quite violent and not suitable for minor ailments such as fever and colds.
After consulting with the doctor carefully and buying several medicines, Yun Ling returned home.
Kiana had already boiled water and let it cool slightly.
Yuna was taking care of Mei.
"The medicine is here. Take some before you sleep." Yun Ling brought the hot water to Mei's side, already distributing the pills for her.
"It's really... too much trouble for everyone..." Mei gave a slightly apologetic smile.
"Mei usually takes care of us. Now that Mei is sick, of course, we should take good care of you."
Kiana wiped her nose, saying it in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Mei-san, please don't talk anymore. Take your medicine and rest quickly, and try to get better as soon as possible," Yuna wished her.
Yun Ling carefully fed the medicine to Mei, then gave her some water to help her swallow.
Soon, Mei felt a slight drowsiness and closed her eyes, falling into a deep sleep.
"Let's go, let Mei rest a bit."
Yun Ling tucked Mei in and led the two to the next room.
"I never expected that Mei, who's usually so careful, would get sick from such a small mistake."
Kiana sat on the sofa, swinging her legs.
"Yeah, even the idiot Kiana wouldn't make such a mistake. Speaking of which, did Kiana infect Mei with your intelligence?" Yun Ling looked at Kiana suspiciously.
"You're asking for it!" Kiana playfully punched Yun Ling.
The three of them cultivated, read, and played games in the house, occasionally checking on Mei.
Fortunately, Mei's fever had subsided somewhat; although she still had a low-grade fever, it was no longer as severe.
She only drank a little bit of plain porridge, and it was unclear whether she would still be hungry.
The next day, Mei's condition had improved considerably, but at Yun Ling's insistence, she was allowed to rest at home for another day.
Yun Ling arranged for Mei to take leave, telling her to be careful and call him if anything happened, before heading to school.
Although Mei felt fine, seeing Yun Ling's concern, she gladly accepted his kindness.
"Are you two living together?" the homeroom teacher asked with a hint of doubt.
Last Friday, Mei had asked for leave for Yun Ling; as the class monitor, the teacher hadn't objected.
This Monday, Yun Ling asked for leave for Mei, which made her think more deeply about the matter.
"We're quite close. She caught a cold yesterday and asked me to ask for leave for her," Yun Ling explained casually.
"Oh... just be careful not to let it affect your studies," the homeroom teacher nodded, saying nothing more.
"By the way, teacher, could you transfer to another class?" Yun Ling suddenly asked.
"Transfer to another class? Why did you suddenly have this idea? Oh... is it because of that..." The homeroom teacher seemed to be aware of the situation in the class.
She knew that Mei, Kiana, and Yun Ling didn't get along well with the rest of the class.
"Transferring to another class requires a guardian's signature. If it's just the students' request... It's difficult for us to process it for you."
The homeroom teacher's answer was official and didn't try to persuade or make things difficult for Yun Ling.
"I understand... then I won't bother you any longer, teacher." Yunling nodded.
He had originally wanted to try to get Yuno to transfer to his class so he could have someone to look after her, but it seemed a little complicated at the moment.
