"Professor, are you going to participate in the war?" Kana Azashiro asked with concern.
The other disciples were also filled with worry. War was never a trivial matter, especially a war against the Quincy. To a Shinigami, the Quincy were a threat that was in some ways even greater than Hollows.
Hearing that their professor was going to war, they couldn't help but worry for his safety.
Sora joked, "What, you don't trust your professor's strength?"
Aizen Sōsuke said seriously, "Of course not. But I have read Grandmaster Batsunsai's battlefield memoirs in the dojo's library."
"The Quincy war from hundreds of years ago was extremely brutal. Several of the First Generation Captains died in battle."
"And some of the others sustained incurable injuries during that war. Grandmaster Batsunsai's own injury was from that time."
"Professor, you must be extremely careful. Do not underestimate the Quincy."
In his spare time, Aizen loved to read. The Katori Dojo had a collection of books left by past masters, most of which were personal biographies. Aizen loved these books because they allowed him to explore the history of the Soul Society.
Sora said gently, "Don't worry. I have experience fighting Quincy. I won't underestimate them."
"The situation this time is different from the war hundreds of years ago."
"That war was initiated by the Quincy King and involved almost the full might of their people. The war I'm participating in is just to wipe out their remnant forces in the World of the Living."
"Alright, continue your training. Even when I'm gone, you must not slack off!"
Sora's words put his disciples' minds at ease. The recent series of events had only made them more diligent in their training. They wanted to get stronger quickly so they could be of help to their professor.
That evening, Sora and his disciples prepared a grand feast together. Kana took a bite of ancient-style steamed grouper, and tears immediately welled up in her eyes.
"This is so delicious! So delicious that my Zanpakutō told me its name!"
Her inner world had stabilized in the past two days, and she had been actively trying to communicate with her blade.
"What! You've learned Shikai!" Kensei was shocked. "You're the one eating, not your Zanpakutō!"
"Try it, if you want. It only works if I cut you!" Kana said with a cunning smile.
Kensei looked at Katori Sora, figured the professor wouldn't let him die, and held out his arm. "Bring it on!" Kana lifted her Zanpakutō and made a small cut on his arm.
Kensei looked at the wound, confused. "What? I don't feel anything..."
"Just wait," Kana said. About ten seconds later, Kensei's expression turned strange.
"Are you feeling unwell?" Shinji asked.
"I... I think I'm getting hungrier... Your sword can make me hungry?" Kensei said, uncertain. "Kana, your Zanpakutō's ability is a bit weak..."
Kana pouted. "'Shishoku' is angry. It wants me to cut you again."
"Is that really all it does?" Kensei said dismissively, holding out his arm again. Kana made another cut. After a few seconds, Kensei frowned. The feeling of hunger was growing stronger, but it was still bearable. After a few more cuts, however, he could no longer stand it. With a feast right in front of him, the temptation was too great. He grabbed his bowl and began to eat.
He ate quickly, but even as he stuffed his face, the feeling of hunger did not diminish in the slightest. At first, he didn't care, as he had a large appetite anyway. But after eating for a while, he found the hunger was still there.
"Why am I still hungry!" Kensei said in horror.
"Now you know!" Kana laughed heartily. "'Shishoku' controls your senses. No matter how much you eat, it's useless. You will only get hungrier and hungrier!"
Aizen's expression flickered, showing some interest in an ability that could control the senses.
"I was wrong!" Kensei cried out. "Professor, save me!!!" He was so hungry he wanted to swallow his bowl.
"A very excellent ability. The longer a fight goes on, the greater its advantage," Sora said with a smile. "Let him go, Kana."
Kana released the effect of her Zanpakutō. "I'm saved..." Kensei let out a sigh of relief. "I've never been this hungry in my life... it's even worse than starving!"
At that moment, several notifications popped up on Sora's panel.
[Guide Kana Azashiro to complete Shikai training. Reward settlement.]
[Reward obtained: 10,000 general experience points.]
[Reward obtained: Bloodline Extractor.]
From level 80 to 85, Spiritual Pressure required 50,000 experience points to level up. But Sora had some leftover experience from the graduation rewards. Adding the 10,000 he had just received, he could now level up again. He immediately invested all of it into Spiritual Pressure, raising it to level 81.
He also noticed that the reward for Shikai training, besides experience, seemed to always include an item. He looked at the "Bloodline Extractor." It was a one-time-use item that looked like a syringe and could be used to extract and preserve a special bloodline.
"A special bloodline?" Sora thought, recalling the special bloodlines in the Soul Society. The Ise family's, for example.
