At the Squad 8 barracks—
Kyōraku Shunsui was lying on a roof, leisurely sipping some wine.
"Honestly, on a beautiful day like this, one should be resting," he lamented, turning his head to look at a woman with glasses who had just appeared. "Miss Takagi, would you care for a drink?"
The woman with glasses rolled her eyes. The captain dumped all his work on the lieutenants and seated officers; how could they possibly have such leisure time?
"Captain Kyōraku, there's an urgent report from the intelligence team in the Dangai!" she said, handing him a Denreishinki.
"You really know how to spoil the mood. Work at a time like this," Shunsui sighed, taking the device. "Hello, this is Kyōraku Shunsui."
"Captain Kyōraku!" an urgent voice called from the other end.
"What is it?"
"We've detected an abnormal spiritual pressure reaction in the Dangai... according to the readings... it's from former captain Batsunsai Katori!"
"What!" Shunsui was shocked. What was she doing in the Dangai?! It wasn't a safe place. In her condition, if she ran into the The Cleaner, she would be finished.
Shunsui had a bad feeling. He quickly put on his straw hat and entered the Dangai through a Senkaimon.
He contacted the intelligence team again. "Have you found Captain Katori?"
"No, she's too fast! We only detected the anomaly. We're heading in that direction now!"
The intelligence team was subordinate to Squad 8. Batsunsai had been their former captain, so they were also very worried about her.

A dark look crossed Shunsui's face. He knew it! That woman was throwing her life away! He pushed his speed to its maximum and rushed to the scene. He found the intelligence team member, who was trembling like a leaf. "What are you shaking for?"
The operative, seeing Shunsui, let out a sigh of relief. "It was... it was terrifying!"
"What was?"
"I mean... Captain Katori's aura... it was so frightening!" The man started shaking again just thinking about it. He had only joined Squad 8 in the last decade and had never seen her in battle. "She's right up ahead!"
Shunsui gestured that he knew. How could he not feel such a terrifying Spiritual Pressure? But he was puzzled. He had asked Captain Unohana about her condition; she shouldn't be able to exert much power.
He walked forward and soon saw several corpses lying in the Dangai's passage, all killed with a single blow. He saw Batsunsai standing before a dozen or so surviving exiles.
"What a terrifying aura," Shunsui murmured. The astonishing killing intent and immense Spiritual Pressure had merged into a truly aura.
Just then, the ground began to tremble, and a rumbling sound echoed from the depths of the dark passage. "Not good!" Shunsui's heart sank. The The Cleaner was coming!
"Shunsui, not slacking off today? You got here so fast," Batsunsai said, turning her head in surprise.
"Captain Katori, get out of here with me, quickly!" Shunsui shouted. "The The Cleaner is almost here!"
"You don't have to go to such trouble," she said with a light smile. She raised her Zanpakutō, her left index and middle fingers bent, tightly pinching the blade. Two exiles, driven by a strong will to survive, took the opportunity to attack her from behind.
Batsunsai released her fingers, and her Zanpakutō instantly swung up. A stream of light shot across the Dangai and into the depths of the dark passage. The two exiles froze in place.
BOOM— A violent sound and tremor came from the distance. A moment later, the sound of the The Cleaner gradually faded away. The two exiles fell to the ground, split in two.
"What a terrifying woman..." Shunsui pressed his hat down, hiding the astonishment in his eyes. She had sent the raging The Cleaner flying with a single slash! And from the form of her blade, he could tell she hadn't even released her Shikai!
The First Generation Captains were truly terrifying.
"Captain Katori, what are you doing here?" Shunsui asked.
"Isn't it obvious?" she said, puzzled.
"You should know that although these are exiles, this sentence was passed down by Central 46. Your actions will be questioned," Shunsui said helplessly.
"If you don't cut the weeds by the roots, they will grow again in the spring wind. Some of the Ksaōji exiles secretly returned to the Soul Society and attacked Sora in the back mountain," Batsunsai said, waving her hand. "Just stay out of it. Act like you didn't see anything. I'm a dying person anyway. What can Central 46 do to me?"
"No, you're already here, so you can't act like you didn't see anything," she suddenly changed her mind and raised her Zanpakutō. "The situation now is that you tried to stop me, but you couldn't."
"Bankai. Shichichō Nenbutsu." Her Zanpakutō vanished.
The next moment, Shunsui and the exiles all heard the sound of a mokugyo being struck. Tok, tok, tok, tok— Then came the layered sound of chanting. The exiles who heard the sound were struck by an invisible attack.

She sheathed her sword and pushed past the blocking Shunsui. "He has grown so much. I haven't had a chance to properly taste it yet."
