"Big Sis Yoruichi, will you still come to the dojo after you graduate?" Kana Azashiro asked, swinging her wooden sword toward Yoruichi's forehead.
Both of them were wearing headbands. They were engaged in a standard kendo dojo exercise: using a wooden sword to cut the opponent's band. This training was essential in case the dojo was ever challenged by outsiders. A clean cut on the headband with a wooden sword signified the ability to decapitate an opponent with a real one.

She suddenly ducked backward, sliding between Kana's feet and swinging her sword at Kana's forehead. After the 6th-year practical exam, graduation was just around the corner. Soon, they would be assigned to various squads based on their performance.
"But don't you have to go on missions after you become a Shinigami?" Kana asked, blocking the incoming blade.
"You don't have to go on missions every single day. There will always be free time!" Yoruichi said, kicking off the ground and springing backward. "You fell for it, haha!"
Yoruichi leaped behind Kana and, with a single slash, cut her headband.
"I still can't beat you. You're amazing, Big Sis Yoruichi," Kana said, catching the falling headband.
"Of course, I'm a graduate, after all!" Yoruichi laughed. "I'm a little thirsty," she said, walking over to Sora and pouring herself a cup of tea.
Sora asked with a smile, "Yoruichi, how is your Blade Meditation training going?"
Yoruichi shrugged. "It is what it is. My sword is still angry with me and refuses to communicate now."
She had already completed the initial communication and constructed her inner world, but she had had a falling out with her blade, and now it refused to tell her its name.
At that moment, a message popped up on Sora's panel.

"Then follow me to the meditation room."
Sora led Yoruichi to the Blade Meditation room and lit the incense burner in the corner. Soon, the room was filled with fragrant smoke.
"Just begin your meditation as usual," he said, releasing his own Zanpakutō. "My Zanpakutō can invade any shadow. I'll try to see if I can enter yours."
Yoruichi trusted her professor and sat down cross-legged, beginning her meditation. A moment later, Sora also sat down in front of her. He placed his hand on her Zanpakutō and invested his Blade Meditation experience.
In an instant, he entered a deep meditative state. When he came to his senses again, he found himself in a pleasant mountain valley. It worked!
Yoruichi was right beside him.
"How did you get in here, meow?!" a flustered voice cried out.
Sora looked up. On the roof of the only wooden house in the valley sat a black-haired girl with a pair of cat ears and a cat tail.
"Tsk, I thought you were mute," Yoruichi said, annoyed. Every time she came here, the cat-eared girl ignored her, but she spoke the moment her professor arrived.
The cat-eared girl pouted and said no more. Sora tugged on Yoruichi's sleeve, signaling her to quiet down.
He jumped onto the roof and crouched beside the girl. "Are you Yoruichi's Zanpakutō?" he asked with a smile.
The cat-eared girl replied, "So what if I am, meow?"
She didn't dislike Sora. A Zanpakutō could see the outside world, so she recognized him. He was the one who had saved her master. If not for him, her foolish master's grave would be overgrown with grass by now.
"Why don't you want to be friends with Yoruichi? Did she do something you dislike?" Sora asked, deciding to act as a listener.
The cat-eared girl immediately began to vent. "She said I was too short! And that I wasn't useful! Who says that about their own Zanpakutō!"
"I just said it casually..." Yoruichi scratched her head. "And you are very short. It feels like I'm at a huge disadvantage..."
"You're saying it again!" the cat-eared girl's ears and tail puffed up in anger.
"Alright, I didn't come here to watch you two fight. Yoruichi, if you don't know what to say, then just be quiet," Sora said, holding back the cat-eared girl.
He turned to Yoruichi. "A Zanpakutō is one with its Shinigami. Regardless of its abilities, you should be thinking about how to develop them."
"A short sword has its own uses. The techniques I taught you, like 'Raikiri,' can all be used with a short sword."
"You may not know this, but when Batsunsai's Zanpakutō is released, it takes the form of a naginata," he continued. "She had to modify the Katori Style techniques to suit herself, and it didn't stop her from becoming a strong warrior."
The cat-eared girl at his side nodded frequently. Sora glared at Yoruichi, signaling her to say something nice. He could tell the spirit was mentally young and would be easy to coax.
