Samatha's POV.
The Next morning, I had woken up early and dashed to school not even bothering about breakfast.
"Shut up!" Cassie gasped, placing her hand over her mouth and glancing around the cafeteria to ensure no one else heard what she just did.
I drummed my fingers on the table, aimlessly twirling my feet underneath. After yesterdays awkward dinner, I hope I don't have any other reason to seat across Mr Trent.
"This is messed up, Cassie. Of all people, it has to be a professor at my school." I leaned in a little to drown out the noise from our surroundings.
She sighed "Look on the bright side Sam, you don't have a lot of classes with him, just an hour class per week it can't be that bad"
"Yes, but I have never had any reason to be noticed, my life's already messy," I raised my fingers making air quotes "What do you think people will say when they hear my mum and professor have a thing, or worse he's going to be my dad. Something to talk about"
Cassie pressed her lips together, but I caught the amusement in her eyes.
I poked at the little croissant on my plate.
Cassie leaned forward, lowering her voice, though her eyes were gleaming. "Okay, but the professor is kind of cute and hot if you ask me"
Her lips curved beneath her teeth as she looked at me.
I frowned "Cassie, seriously? That's what you took from all that?"
She shrugged. "I'm just saying—you're being dramatic. It's not like you two are related yet. Besides, a little scandal never hurt anyone."
I gave her a look that said I wasn't amused. "Easy for you to say. You're not the one whose mum might end up married to your professor."
Cassie tilted her head, her blonde hair falling to one side as she studied me. "Yeah, but come on," she said, propping her chin on her palm, "it's kind of funny. You have to admit that."
I didn't find it funny. Not even a little.
Sometimes I wonder if Cassie is teasing or testing me.
For a moment, neither of us spoke. I just kept poking at the croissant absent-mindedly. The cafeteria buzzed on.
Then she tapped the table. "So what about Alec, hummm"
I rolled my eyes "Cassie…"
"What? You don't get to drop the I am tutoring the most handsome guy ever and just let it pass give me details. Did he talk to you? Sit close? Smell good? Come on, spill"
"That handsome guy was my high school bully Cassie" My eyes roamed the room, anywhere but at her.
She leaned in on the table and placed her chin on her palms "Come on, tell me you don't find him attractive even a tiny bit"
"Yuck," I said, sticking my tongue out.
She giggled "Relax, I am just teasing
I folded my arms "You are impossible"
She blew an air kiss to me and dug a fork into her noodles. She seemed a little bit too interested in the topic.
"Anyway," I said, placing the strap of my bag over my shoulder and standing up to leave.
"Don't want to be late for class"
Cassie waved the fork around "Yeah, whatever"
I raised my hand to my face to check the time on my wristwatch. "Fuck, I am five minutes"
I quickened my steps hurriedly brushing past people.
I turned the corner
And slammed straight into someone.
My bag slid off my shoulder, and my phone clattered against the floor.
"Seriously?" I muttered, crouching to grab it.
"So this is your thing now? Running into people?"
That voice.
I looked up and my stomach flipped. Alec.
Of course.
He was standing there, holding my fallen notebook in one hand, that familiar smug expression plastered across his face. His hair was slightly tousled like he'd just run a hand through it, and the corner of his mouth curved when he caught the look on mine.
"Guess you just can't stay away from me," he said, handing me the notebook.
I snatched it from his hand. "Don't flatter yourself."
He raised a brow, his eyes ran over my face for a little too long. "Relax, tutor girl. I was just being friendly."
"Yeah, well, maybe try that with someone else."
I slung my bag over my shoulder and brushed past him, my heart doing flips. I could practically feel his smirk following me as I walked away.
"You missed a page," he called after me.
I stopped at the door, turned, and saw him holding out the sheet I hadn't noticed had fallen. Only this time, there was a faint smirk on his lips.
"You should probably read it," he said.
I could feel my cheeks turn a bright red,
I could recognise that piece of paper all too well,
One of the notes, from the back of my journal. One of those things you write when you are daydreaming instead of studying, especially after watching a full episode of a K drama series. Literally titled "My Prince Charming"
Oh no.
I spun on my heels and snatched the piece of paper from him.
"Relax," Alec said, that teasing smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Didn't know you thought about guys like that."
He winked.
"Ugh, Give me a break," I muttered, heat crawling up my neck.
He tilted his head, obviously enjoying this. "Guess I'll have to live up to your standards now, huh… tutor girl?"
I turned around and walked fast. I didn't turn back. Didn't dare to.
"See you tomorrow Sammy" he called out.
