Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: Between Glory and Love

The morning after Manchester City's Champions League triumph felt different.

The trophy stood proudly inside Khali's home, shining under the morning light.

Khali walked past it and smiled.

He had dreamed about this moment since he was a boy kicking a ball around the streets of Zangola.

But now that the dream had arrived, something else mattered even more.

Ameera.

She was sitting outside with a cup of tea, watching the sunrise.

Khali walked toward her.

"Good morning, champion," Ameera said with a smile.

Khali laughed.

"Champion? I think you're the champion here."

"Me?" Ameera pointed at herself. "I didn't score that free kick."

"No," Khali replied. "But you were there when I needed you. That's more important."

Ameera smiled and reached for his hand.

"You've worked so hard for this."

Khali looked toward the trophy.

"I used to think winning trophies was everything."

"And now?"

Khali looked at her.

"Now I know who I want beside me when I win them."

Ameera's smile grew.

For a few quiet moments, they simply sat together.

There were no cameras.

No reporters.

No stadium.

Just the two of them.

🇳🇬 Chapter Twelve — The Celebration in Nigeria

A few days later, Khali returned to Nigeria.

The reception was enormous.

Fans filled the streets, waving Nigerian flags and Manchester City shirts.

When Khali stepped out of the vehicle, the crowd erupted.

"KHALI! KHALI! KHALI!"

He raised the Champions League medal around his neck.

His mother stood nearby, crying proudly.

Khali hugged her.

"I'm home, Mum."

She smiled through her tears.

"You made your mother proud."

Khali looked around at the young footballers watching him.

Some were wearing old boots.

Some were playing with a worn-out football.

Khali remembered exactly what that felt like.

He walked toward them.

One young boy nervously approached.

"Khali… can I become a professional footballer too?"

Khali crouched down.

"Yes."

The boy's eyes widened.

"But you have to work for it."

Khali handed him a football.

"Dream big. Train hard. Stay disciplined. And never let somebody tell you that where you come from decides where you can go."

The boy hugged him.

The crowd applauded.

Khali realized something.

The trophy wasn't just his anymore.

It had become a symbol for every young Nigerian dreaming of playing at the highest level.

 Bello's Manchester United Fight

While Khali was celebrating in Nigeria, Bello was back in Manchester.

His comeback had started.

But one goal wasn't enough.

Manchester United's manager called him into the office.

"Bello, you've shown me something."

Bello sat quietly.

"What?"

"You've shown me that you don't give up."

Bello nodded.

"But now," the manager continued, "you have to prove that you deserve to start every week."

Bello stood.

"I will."

The next training session was intense.

Bello trained like his career depended on it.

Every sprint.

Every shot.

Every tackle.

Every finishing drill.

He refused to stop.

At the end of training, one of his teammates asked:

"Why are you pushing yourself this hard?"

Bello smiled.

"Because my best friend is lifting Champions League trophies."

He looked toward the Manchester City side of the city.

"And I'm not finished yet."

 Khali and Ameera

That evening, Khali and Ameera walked through a quiet area near his family home.

Khali wasn't wearing his medal.

He wasn't wearing his City shirt.

For once, he wasn't thinking about football.

Ameera noticed.

"You're quiet."

Khali smiled.

"I'm thinking."

"About what?"

"About us."

Ameera looked at him.

Khali took her hand.

"My life has changed so much."

"I know."

"Sometimes I wonder if I became too focused on football."

Ameera shook her head.

"You worked for your dream. I never wanted to stand in the way of that."

Khali smiled.

"You never did."

He paused.

"You helped me chase it."

Ameera looked down at their hands.

"Then promise me something."

"What?"

"When football gets difficult, don't shut everyone out."

Khali nodded.

"I promise."

"And when things go well?"

"I'll celebrate with you."

Ameera smiled.

"Good."

Khali laughed.

"You're making a lot of rules."

"Someone has to keep the Champions League winner humble."

They both laughed.

Then Khali looked at her seriously.

"You know what my favorite part of winning was?"

"The trophy?"

"No."

"The goal?"

"No."

Ameera raised an eyebrow.

"Then what?"

"Seeing you in the stands."

Ameera smiled.

"You're becoming very romantic."

Khali laughed.

"Maybe I learned from you."

They continued walking together as the evening sky turned orange.

 The Next Challenge

The celebration wouldn't last forever.

When Khali returned to Manchester City, the manager called the players together.

A new season was coming.

New competitions.

New opponents.

New pressure.

And there was another announcement.

Manchester City would face Manchester United in the opening months of the new season.

Khali looked at the fixture list.

Manchester City vs Manchester United.

He immediately thought of Bello.

His phone buzzed.

A message from Bello.

Bello: "I hope you're ready."

Khali smiled.

Khali: "Always."

Another message arrived.

Bello: "This time I'm not sitting on the bench."

Khali replied:

Khali: "Then I'll see you on the pitch."

Khali put his phone away.

Ameera walked into the room.

"What happened?"

Khali smiled.

"Bello."

She immediately understood.

"The rivalry?"

"The rivalry."

Ameera shook her head.

"You two will never change."

Khali laughed.

"Maybe not."

But deep down, Khali knew this match would be different.

Bello wasn't the struggling player from months ago anymore.

He had found his confidence.

And Khali had just returned from winning the biggest trophy in Europe.

Two childhood friends.

Two different clubs.

One massive stage.

Manchester City vs Manchester United.

And this time...

Bello was coming for Khali.
