Chapter 1067 - Chapter 1067 – The Chain Deck

Kira:

"I set a card face-down, and end my turn. Your move, Mr. Armstrong. I hear you're quite good—don't disappoint me."

Mr. Armstrong grimaced.

The shock system was his idea, but he enjoyed shocking others, not himself.

Normally, he'd have yelled at someone to shut the damn thing off. But the officer was right here; he didn't dare yell. He could only force a pained laugh and say it was a good thing.

Mr. Armstrong steeled himself.

If YOU want this shock duel, then I'll return the pain—with interest—through the duel itself. That'll be fair, right?

"My turn—draw!"

He was determined to make the officer feel the agony he'd just suffered.

"I Normal Summon 'Iron Chain Repairman'!"

A snake-like iron chain slithers onto the field, heavy steel tail sparking against the floor.

[Iron Chain Snake, ATK 800]

"Iron Chain Snake effect! During my Main Phase, I can equip it as an Equip Card to a face-up monster on your field. The equipped monster's ATK and DEF decrease by 800!

Equip Iron Chain Snake to 'Seven Swords Warrior'!"

The chain slithered and coiled around Seven Swords Warrior, severely restricting his movement.

[Seven Swords Warrior, ATK 2300 → ATK 1500]

This drew boos from the crowd.

"Damn, finally a Synchro, and now—"

"How dare the warden attack the Director's cards! Unbelievable!"

Normally, inmates wouldn't dare disrespect the director—but today, all took the chance to jeer.

Mr. Armstrong's face was purple with rage.

These trash—given a chance, they're so cocky! But they're on the Director's side... I can't say anything YET. But when he leaves, I'll make these worms suffer!

"Lowering attack with equips, not bad,"

Kira smiled,

"But you also triggered Seven Swords Warrior's effect: once per turn, when equipped with an equip card, deal 800 damage to the opponent!"

Mr. Armstrong's eyes widened:

"What!?"

Damage when equipped!? Did I just run into a trap?

Kira waved:

"Seven Swords Warrior—Seven Star Slash!"

Sword aura flashed again, this time crackling across Mr. Armstrong's face. The virtual strike jolted him; another powerful electric shock followed.

"Aaaahhhh—!"

[Mr. Armstrong, LP3300 → LP2500]

Already smoking, Mr. Armstrong fell to his knees, trembling:

"D-damn it all..."

Kira raised an eyebrow:

"Sorry, what did you say?"

Mr. Armstrong straightened up, putting on an agonizingly fake grin, giving a thumbs up:

"I...I said... Director, you are formidable..."

Wiping sweat from his brow, Mr. Armstrong forced himself back on his feet.

No, I must recover through this duel!

"Battle! Iron Chain Repairman, attack the weakened Seven Swords Warrior!"

The repairman heaved his sledgehammer. Restrained by chains, Seven Swords Warrior was sluggish; several swings later, the hammer smashed his sword, then struck him in the chest, shattering his golden armor.

Seven Swords Warrior groaned and faded from the field.

[Kira, LP4000 → LP3900]

A mere 100 damage. Kira barely blinked, utterly unbothered. Compared to the lethal damage he'd survived in real Shadow Duels, this was nothing but a massage.

But Mr. Armstrong had bigger plans.

"At this moment, Iron Chain Snake's other effect activates! When the equipped monster is destroyed in battle and sent to the graveyard, send cards from the top of your deck to the graveyard equal to its Level!"

The Iron Chain Snake, now spectral, lunged for Kira's deck.

"Seven Swords Warrior is Level 7—send seven cards from your deck to the grave!"

Seven cards were swiftly banished.

Behind bars, Yusei explained to a cellmate:

"That's a deck destruction tactic!"

"Deck destruction?"

"Yeah." Yusei nodded. "If you run out of cards in your deck, you lose by rule. Destroying all the opponent's cards—making them run out of draws—is called a deck destruction strategy."

Sending seven cards at once—Mr. Armstrong was feeling good now. But looking at the officer's pleasant, even delighted, expression unsettled him…

Why does he look happy that his deck's getting destroyed?

Of course, Mr. Armstrong didn't know—in the history of Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, successful deck destruction victories are extremely rare. The most famous case was when Atem decked out Marik in Duelist Kingdom, with a little help from his own traitor monster.

"My turn—draw!"

Kira drew, smiling:

"Deck destruction? Clever strategy.

If you like it so much, let me help you along."

He revealed a card from his hand.

"I activate the Spell Card, 'Take Over 5', sending five cards from the top of my deck to the grave."

He discarded five more cards.

Mr. Armstrong grew even more agitated.

He KNOWS I'm playing deck destruction, yet he's HELPING me?

Does he actually like me? Is he letting me win so I'll get promoted?

This ridiculous hope fluttered in his heart.

"I activate my set card: Trap Card 'Soul Synchro'—from my grave, I banish a Synchro monster. If all the Synchro materials used for that monster are in my grave, I can Special Summon them both from the grave!"

(This is a 5DS-exclusive, very popular in the anime, used by many characters; not printed as a real card but included in Tag Force games.)

"I banish 'Seven Swords Warrior' from my grave, and Special Summon the two materials used for it—Jutte Fighter and Oracle of the Sun!"
