Round Six: Gaara versus Rock Lee!
The next battle lineup was quickly decided, but before the referee could even announce it, Gaara impatiently walked straight into the arena himself.
After watching a few fights and seeing blood spilled, he was already restless—itching for his turn.
This opponent seemed to be one of the stronger ones everyone had their eyes on. Perfect. He'd use this fight as a warm-up.
"Finally, it's my turn!" Rock Lee pumped his fists and kicked his legs in excitement from the stands, then said to Naruto, "Naruto, remember our pact? We'll meet in the third main match!"
"Ah! But your opponent looks pretty scary!" Naruto frowned, clearly worried.
Even someone like him could tell Gaara wasn't to be underestimated.
"I'm definitely going to win!" Lee said confidently.
"That's the spirit! Youth should always charge forward like that!" Might Guy said with a proud grin, patting Lee's shoulder before lowering his voice conspiratorially. "But remember, that gourd on his back—it's suspicious."
"So that's it!" Lee's eyes sparkled, and he quickly pulled out a little notebook to jot it down.
Guy immediately bonked him lightly on the head. "Don't write it down! You won't have time to read notes during a fight!"
The audience collectively broke into a cold sweat at the pair's ridiculous energy.
"I can't believe it's those two! This is going to be a great match!" Kiba said, returning to the stands beside Itsuki, looking relaxed after his own fight.
Itsuki smiled. "Yeah, this one's going to be intense."
He still remembered how their battle was shown in the manga—its cover art featuring a dragon and a tiger.
Rock Lee was the dragon, and Gaara the tiger. Unfortunately, in that story, the dragon had been completely defeated by the tiger.
"Itsuki! Itsuki!" Naruto ran up excitedly the moment he saw him, but when he noticed Kiba beside him, his expression dropped. "Ugh, why are you here too?"
"Huh? What's that supposed to mean?" Kiba snapped. "Don't think you're all that just because you got lucky and won a match!"
"I am stronger than you. Anyone with eyes can see that!" Naruto shot back.
"You just got lucky, damn it!" Kiba's veins bulged in anger.
"Whatever you say. I still won." Naruto whistled smugly.
After all, many people said luck was also part of strength.
Good luck equals great power, right? Nothing wrong with that.
"Alright, enough arguing," Itsuki said with a small smile. "The match is starting."
Only then did the two boys stop bickering, turning away from each other with annoyed grunts.
Sakura sighed. "It's amazing how Naruto actually listens whenever Itsuki talks."
"Itsuki's a special one, after all," Kakashi said, squinting his eyes in his usual easy smile.
After losing so many important people in his life, Kakashi had once lived in darkness.
But after taking over Team Seven, he slowly began to step out of those shadows.
This peaceful, everyday life—he'd grown to treasure it.
Down in the arena, Rock Lee charged straight at Gaara!
His movements were fast, but all his strikes were blocked by Gaara's sand.
Only now did the spectators realize that the gourd on Gaara's back was filled entirely with sand—and that the sand automatically defended him without any visible command.
Lee's relentless attacks didn't even touch Gaara's clothes. He was forced to back off.
"Lee! Take them off!" Guy shouted from the stands.
"But, but…" Lee hesitated. "You said I could only do that when I needed to protect someone important to me!"
"Don't worry!" Guy gave a gleaming thumbs-up. "You have my permission!"
Lee's eyes lit up. "Yes, sir!"
He instantly tore off his leg wraps, revealing a set of lead weights tied around his calves—each engraved with the word 'Guts.'
Weights?
The audience exchanged curious glances. Even if he removed them, surely it wouldn't make that much difference.
Then Lee dropped the weights.
BOOM!
Two craters exploded in the arena floor as dust billowed up.
Everyone's jaws dropped.
"That's insane!" Itsuki muttered, twitching his lips before glancing at Guy.
"Might Guy-sensei, seriously—how heavy are those things?"
Everyone leaned in to hear the answer.
Guy grinned proudly. "Actually, those aren't even his heaviest! When he trains, he uses double that weight. What he wears now is just his daily load."
Itsuki almost rolled his eyes. "Just answer the question already!"
Guy puffed out his chest. "Not much—just 200 kilograms per leg!"
The arena went silent.
Two hundred kilograms per leg?! Eight hundred jin in total?! Was he even human?!
In the arena, the newly lightened Rock Lee was like an untamed stallion. His speed skyrocketed—so fast he was nearly teleporting!
With a whoosh, he was behind Gaara.
Another whoosh, in front.
Left—right—behind again—Gaara's sand couldn't keep up!
The sand's automatic defense lagged like a computer on overload.
Lee darted in, analyzing the sand's limits. When he finally found an opening, he slipped through and landed a clean hit on Gaara!
But instead of satisfaction, confusion filled his eyes.
That didn't feel like a human body.
He struck again—and realized Gaara's body was covered by a layer of hardened sand.
Sand Armor.
No choice left.
He opened the First Gate of the Eight Inner Gates and unleashed the Front Lotus!
Unfortunately, Gaara escaped at the last second using a Sand Clone.
"Damn it, Lee's in trouble!" Naruto clenched his fists, remembering Lee's earlier promise.
He wanted to shout encouragement but feared disrupting Lee's rhythm.
The tide turned quickly.
After the Front Lotus, Lee's body weakened; his muscles were damaged, and he struggled to dodge the chasing sand.
When most people thought it was over, Lee roared and pushed beyond his limits—opening four of the Eight Gates in one go!
In an instant, Gaara couldn't even react. His Sand Armor shattered piece by piece under Lee's furious blows.
Fifth Gate: Gate of Limit, OPEN!
"Neji… I originally planned to use this move to defeat you. But this time, I'll use it for you to see!"
Lee's body glowed red, veins bulging as he clenched his fists.
"This is… my final strike!"
He slammed a punch straight into Gaara's gut.
BOOM!
Gaara was blasted downward, the sand too slow to react. His armor crumbled, and he crashed hard into the ground—
—but at the last moment, the gourd on his back dissolved into sand, cushioning his fall and sparing him from total defeat.
He was injured, but not finished.
Lee, however, had pushed past his limit. His body screamed in pain; muscles torn, bones strained. He could barely move.
At that point, the outcome was clear.
