"You have the Scroll of Heaven, so you want the Scroll of Earth in my hand, right?"
The Kusagakure shinobi—really Orochimaru in disguise—suddenly raised his head, stuffed the Earth Scroll into his mouth, and swallowed it whole.
Pulling down his eyelids and licking his long tongue, he grinned sinisterly.
"Then… let's begin. The battle for the scroll. I'll give it my all."
A suffocating murderous intent erupted from his eyes.
The moment Sasuke and Sakura met his gaze, it was as if they saw themselves being tortured to death.
Their eyes widened in terror, bodies frozen in place.
[Haruno Sakura: So terrifying! I knew it was coming, but I still couldn't avoid it. This is pure killing intent… just how many people has he killed?]
[Tenten: This is the power of one of the Legendary Sannin? Even with group buffs, it won't matter. Against him, nothing's changed.]
[Yamanaka Ino: Don't scream, Forehead! If you get left here, your body might be eaten by wild animals.]
[Haruno Sakura: !!! !!!]
[Haruno Sakura: @Tsunade @Tsunade @Tsunade]
[Tsunade: You won't die. Go on. If you perform well, I'll consider agreeing to your last request.]
[Yamanaka Ino: Hah? What request? Is Forehead trying to cozy up to Itsuki through Lady Tsunade? How underhanded!]
[Haruno Sakura: I'm not like you! And how many times do I have to say I don't have feelings for Itsuki? Whatever. It's just Orochimaru—I'll go for it!]
[Uzumaki Karin: Looks like Sakura wants to become Tsunade-sama's apprentice and learn medical ninjutsu.]
[Tenten: Huh? @Tsunade, can I be your disciple too? You're my idol. My dream is to become a strong kunoichi like you!]
[Yamanaka Ino: I want to, too! @Tsunade]
[Tsunade: No time.]
[Tenten: …]
[Yamanaka Ino: …]
In reality, Sakura had prepared herself.
Though stunned for a moment by Orochimaru's killing intent, she pinched her thigh hard to snap out of it.
At the critical moment, she stopped Sasuke from stabbing himself in fear, pushed him aside, and dodged the kunai that Orochimaru had thrown.
"Hm?" Orochimaru raised his brows. "That girl… interesting."
It was unexpected.
The one he thought was a burden had broken free of his killing intent, while the Uchiha heir stood paralyzed, almost turning his blade on himself.
Freed from the murderous aura, Sasuke grabbed Sakura and fled into hiding.
His heart pounded—this was hopeless. The gap in strength was crushing.
Sakura didn't waste time worrying about his fear.
She knew Tsunade wasn't expecting her to defeat Orochimaru, but to see how she performed under impossible odds.
Running away wasn't an option. She needed to act, to show her worth.
She turned to Sasuke. "This enemy's way too strong. He's no genin. He's infiltrated the exam. If we just run, we'll never escape. Our only chance is to stall him."
Sasuke, shaken to his core, couldn't think straight. But her words gave him clarity.
"Right. He's not like Gaara or even Itsuki. His aura is… monstrous." Sasuke's breath steadied slightly.
Running was useless. The only option was to buy time and hope for rescue.
"Sasuke, behind you!"
A massive snake appeared, tongue flicking as it lunged at them.
Sakura had already hurled shuriken at its eyes, leaping clear.
Sasuke dodged, positioning himself behind her to cushion her fall.
The snake slammed into their hiding place, shattering the tree to splinters.
But Sakura's shuriken found their mark—piercing its eyes, one striking deep into its brain. The beast collapsed in a bloody heap.
Then, with a sickening tear, the snake's skin split open. A bloody figure slithered out—Orochimaru himself.
"Never let your guard down," he hissed. "In front of a predator, prey survives only if it's cautious enough."
Hisss!
Orochimaru's body coiled around a tree like a serpent, then whipped forward at blinding speed toward Sasuke.
"So fast!" Sasuke's stomach turned. He couldn't even muster half his strength.
Suddenly—
Thwip thwip thwip!
Shuriken cut through the air, forcing Orochimaru to halt.
"Sorry, Sasuke! I forgot the code!"
Naruto stood above, clothes tattered, but grinning proudly.
"Naruto, this isn't the time to play hero!" Sasuke barked. "Run! We can't beat him!"
"Heh… You slipped free of that snake, Naruto," Orochimaru said, amused.
"You bastard! Preying on the injured!" Naruto snarled, ready to charge.
But Sasuke suddenly pulled out his Heaven Scroll and tossed it toward Orochimaru. "We'll give you the scroll! Just let us go!"
"Oh?" Orochimaru chuckled. "Such a strong sense of self-preservation. Prey only survives if it offers a substitute."
But Naruto wouldn't have it. He snatched the scroll midair and socked Sasuke in the face.
"You think this'll save us? Wrong! The Sasuke I know isn't a coward! Even if we hand over the scroll, do you really think he'll spare us? You're just blinded by fear!"
Sasuke's jaw clenched, words failing him.
Naruto glared. "Coward!"
Orochimaru chuckled darkly. "Naruto, you're right. Which is why I'll just kill you instead."
He bit his finger, slammed his hand to the ground.
"Summoning Jutsu!"
Boom!
A monstrous snake erupted, sending Naruto flying before lunging for Sasuke and Sakura.
But Naruto forced himself to his feet, using raw strength to stop the giant snake's head.
"Hey, coward! You alive?" Naruto shouted, gritting his teeth as he held the beast back.
Sakura's eyes lit up. "Now's the time!"
With Orochimaru distracted, she unleashed the jutsu she'd been holding back.
"Genjutsu: Binding Illusion!"
