Chapter 74 - He Doesn't Belong Here

Chu Bai spared the life of the mounted warrior, taking a token from him before heading toward the massive city ahead. As he approached the city gate, a woman veiled in black slowly approached.

"Welcome to the City of Slaughter," she said, her voice soft and alluring.

The woman stopped beside Chu Bai. Though her face was hidden behind the veil, her aura was undeniably captivating, leaving Chu Bai inwardly impressed.

*Tang Chen seems to be living quite comfortably as the Slaughter King. I wonder if he spends his days playing cards with these envoys.*

Chu Bai's expression remained unchanged as he addressed the woman. "Spare me the pleasantries," he said. "Take me to the Hell Slaughter Arena."

The black-clad woman paused, sizing Chu Bai up with a curious gaze. "Are you certain you wish to go straight to the Hell Slaughter Arena?" she asked softly.

"Why else would I come here?" Chu Bai replied with a smile. "Take me there, and your mission will be complete."

"Very well," the woman said, her tone tinged with resignation. She had seen reckless individuals before, but Chu Bai's sheer foolishness was unprecedented. He clearly knew nothing of the City of Slaughter's basic rules, yet he was rushing to the Hell Slaughter Arena to meet his death.

They had barely taken a few steps when Chu Bai noticed a gaunt figure lurking in a dark corner, glaring at him with predatory eyes. Before the black-clad woman could react, the figure suddenly exploded into a bloody mist.

The black-clad woman looked at Chu Bai with surprise.

He was clearly more than he seemed. She had barely registered his earlier move.

"It seems you're adapting well here," she chuckled softly.

"When in Rome, do as the Romans do. If I feared death, I wouldn't have come here," Chu Bai replied.

The pair moved through the outer city without obstruction, soon reaching the inner city, where no rules applied. As they entered, Chu Bai was immediately assaulted by a cacophony of vile sounds.

He glanced over to see a barely conscious young woman lying on the ground, surrounded by a group of scantily clad men. The nature of her ordeal was painfully obvious.

Yet the black-clad woman, herself a woman, showed no reaction whatsoever.

"We're both women," Chu Bai said. "Don't you feel anything about this?"

"There are no rules here," she replied calmly. "The weak naturally suffer such fates. If you weren't an envoy of the Slaughter King, you might share her fate. This place is less a paradise of sin and more a carnival of beasts."

Chu Bai smiled. "Once you've taken me to the Hell Slaughter Arena, you can leave. I don't need the twelve-hour protection period."

The black-clad woman raised an eyebrow. "If that's what you wish, so be it."

"This is the Hell Slaughter Arena. Whether you choose to watch or participate is up to you," the black-clad woman asked again. "Are you sure you want to enter the competition directly?"

"Yes, thank you for guiding me," Chu Bai replied with a faint smile. The moment he turned away, the smile vanished, leaving his face utterly devoid of emotion. He strode toward the arena, where three burly men blocked his path.

Without giving them a chance to speak, Chu Bai crushed their skulls with his bare hands.

The black-clad woman watched in astonishment as Chu Bai seemed to transform into a completely different person. Just moments ago, he had been smiling and thanking her; now, he was expressionlessly crushing skulls.

*This man is no ordinary fighter,* she thought.

Soon, Chu Bai had registered for the Hell Slaughter Arena and was about to face his first deathmatch.

Though many spectators had gathered, none of them had any confidence in Chu Bai. Judging by his age and physique, he seemed no match for the desperate fighters in the arena. It was likely he would be the first to die in this battle.

"Ha ha! Where did this pretty boy come from?" one of the fighters sneered.

A chorus of mocking laughter erupted from the crowd.

Chu Bai remained impassive. With a single step, he moved with uncanny speed to stand before the man who had mocked him. Before anyone could react, his hand had already landed on the man's face.

*Bang!*

As red and white matter splattered across the ground, terror gripped the crowd. A moment later, they charged at Chu Bai, roaring in fury.

Chu Bai's movements were unpredictable as he weaved through the arena. Without even activating his Martial Soul, he effortlessly crushed the skulls of his opponents using only his soul power.

"Roar!"

The surrounding fighters erupted in primal roars.

This brutal combat seemed to ignite their savage instincts.

After all, the primal instinct of beasts is slaughter.

Chu Bai stepped down from the arena. In just over ten seconds, everyone but him lay dead. The crowd watched in terror as the young man slowly descended, unable to comprehend the kind of youth he was.

"This guy... he's terrifying..."

Chu Bai left the Hell Slaughter Arena, only to find the black-clad woman still waiting for him.

"Why haven't you left yet?" Chu Bai asked.

"I underestimated you. I stayed to take you to your lodgings," the woman replied, suppressing her shock and smiling at him.

"Alright, let's go," Chu Bai nodded.

Following the woman to his lodgings, he found the place surprisingly spacious. If not for its location in the City of Slaughter, it might have been considered a decent place. However, the air here reeked of blood, gradually eroding one's sanity over time.

"Then, I wish you success in obtaining everything you desire in the City of Slaughter," the woman said, standing at the door with a faint smile.

Chu Bai nodded. Only after the black-clad woman turned to leave did he murmur, "A woman like you shouldn't be trapped in this place. The outside world is where you truly belong."

He could tell she was young, likely a teenager. Though her black veil concealed part of her face, it couldn't hide her breathtaking beauty.

Had she been born outside the City of Slaughter, she would have been a popular girl, free to enjoy the world. But for her, that was likely just a distant dream.

"I was born in the City of Slaughter, and I'll die here too," the girl said, her voice tinged with sorrow but quickly regaining its composure. "No one can defy the Slaughter King... no one..."

After a moment's hesitation, she asked timidly, "What's the outside world like?"

"If you yearn for it, why not see for yourself?" Chu Bai smiled. "The opportunity will come. Until then, just survive."

With that, Chu Bai closed the door.

The black-clad girl lingered for a moment, then suppressed the emotions in her eyes, reverting to her role as the Slaughter Envoy.
