Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Anomalies

Tokyo... The city so often described as beautiful, a hub of advanced technology, now found itself... Dark. Night had fallen upon the world, covering the great city in darkness, where the only source of light remaining at that moment... Was the light of the moon. Yet, even with night shrouding the skies, a certain person was running through the nocturnal streets. Although their face revealed no apparent expression, their body moved swiftly toward a place; in fact, to be precise, moved rapidly toward Tokyo's warehouses.

- "Are you sure he's around here?" - asked the person. Right after the question, a voice arose behind him… It wasn't a deep voice; it sounded almost higher-pitched, like that of a child. - "I'm sure! My nose never lies! So he must be around here." - The words carried a certain arrogance, though mixed with joy. Hearing that voice, the person just let out a light sigh.

- "Okay. But we still don't know what type he will be this time. He could very well be the kind that confuses the senses, so we have no idea how he will act." - The words were delivered in a calm tone, as if giving a small sermon to the voice.

After these words, the place was enveloped in a kind of absolute silence. Until, after a few seconds, the voice simply sighed, as if a bit annoyed.

- "Okay, okay, you're right. But I'm almost sure I'm right! You can trust me, I never mess up!" - Even though he said he'd learned, his tone didn't show it, still displaying that same childish and arrogant tone as before.

Hearing the words, the person merely moved his head slightly, in a gesture of doubt, but then refocused his attention on his goal: the warehouse. By the way they were running, it probably wouldn't be long before they finally arrived.

In the end, it happened as expected. After a few minutes of running, both finally reached their goal. Yet, when they reached the warehouse, they couldn't help but notice an interesting detail: the place was completely silent. The only sounds that could be heard were their own footsteps and the wind striking the metal.

However... Unbeknownst to them, something was watching... With a smile on its face.

•••••

Something was wrong... And it was obvious. What should've been just a simple walk had turned into a kind of hunt for this... Anomaly. It's very strange... For some reason, the device couldn't detect any kind of signal; the only evidence we have that he might actually be here is his smell. It makes me thoughtful.

- "Are you sure you smelled him? Because, even though we're here, it's still impossible to pick up his signal." - I said in a calm tone, already knowing what kind of answer to expect. - "HEY! Are you saying I could be lying!? You know very well my sense of smell never fails! Unlike your device, which has failed several times!!" - ... Seriously, always so sentimental. - "I'm not saying you could be lying, I'm just saying that so far, the anomaly hasn't given any sign. Besides, I've already told you not to call it a 'Device', but instead a 'Digivice'. You have to stop being so explosive, Do-..." - A sound echoed.

- "Hihi" - A... laugh. Its tone was shrill, as if something was constantly laughing at us. And, after the laugh, a noise came in the place. - "You two seem so much fun!! How INTERESTING!!" - The voice was joyful, high-pitched, and even a bit childish... To a degree that could almost make your ears hurt.

Given those words, it didn't take long for us to brace ourselves, and with a quick movement, I turned toward the place from which the voice came. Amidst the warehouses, from the darkness... He emerges.

His body was small, childlike. The skin, in bluish and cold tones, looked almost lifeless, as if blood had long left his body. In his hands, he had red, extremely sharp claws. On his feet, black and purple shoes could be seen; however, at the front, those same red claws as on his hands were visible. His face was covered by a sort of "black cape," where the only thing visible was a drawing of eyes on the black cloak: one eye was red, the other green. On his face was a constant, thin, mischievous, joyful smile. But among those details, what most drew attention were his... hands. In that spot, eyes existed on his palms. They were living eyes, blinking, pulsing, and watching everything. This was the being that watched us, the anomaly we were seeking.

- "You make a funny pair, you know? Never thought I'd see a Digimon and a human working together. How interesting... I want to play with you!!" The words were spoken by the creature, the "Digimon." - In a swift movement, my hands reached my pocket, grabbing the Digivice. Grabbing it, I quickly pointed it at the Digimon ahead, trying to discover what he was. But this detail didn't go unnoticed.

- "Hm? What's that in your hand? Looks cool... I want it." - The moment the last word left his mouth, the Digimon charged toward me, attempting to grab the Digivice that was analyzing him. Seeing the sudden charge, I quickly moved back, trying to evade the attack route. - "Damn... Dorumon! Use Hyper Dash Metal!" When called, a quick figure rushed toward the enemy Digimon. Illuminated by moonlight, the shadow was finally revealed: under the light, the purple fur gleamed. The body somewhat resembled a mix of a small dinosaur and a dragon. On his paws and feet, black, sharp claws capable of cutting even metal could be seen. At the end of his tail, a small tuft of white fur was visible; yet, the most striking aspect of his appearance was atop his forehead: a ruby crystal that, under the moonlight, slightly illuminated the area with the red light it emitted.

With the Hyper Dash Metal command, Dorumon's energy gathered at the top of his body, making his head take on metal-like features. Through this, the Digimon struck the enemy Digimon with all his strength, throwing him several meters away, making his body collide with a metal warehouse.

- "I TOLD YOU THERE'D BE SOMETHING HERE! AND YOU EVEN ASKED IF I WAS LYING! I'M ALWAYS RIGHT!" - The words were shouted euphorically, and honestly... It almost made my ears hurt a bit. - "Yeah, you were right. Sorry for doubting you," - I said in a somewhat monotone tone, though it seemed that after hearing my admission of error, Dorumon gave a small smile... Sometimes I'd like to know what goes on in his mind.

Well, setting that aside, I soon looked at the Digivice screen, which had finally finished scanning the enemy Digimon. Reading the information on the screen, I finally understood why the Digivice hadn't found him... Troublesome.

- "Dorumon, better be careful. Seems our enemy isn't that simple... Right, Dracumon?" - The Digimon we were facing was Dracumon, a Virus-type child-level Digimon. Apparently, he's the type who loves playing tricks and facing any challenge, so it's likely that's why he's so interested in me and Dorumon. He probably has some ability to hide his presence, thus escaping the Digivice's sensor.

Hearing his name called, Dracumon barely smiled, while a small laugh began to echo. - "How interesting! That thing can get our information too? Fascinating!" - At the moment those words were spoken, the Digimon pinned against the metal warehouse simply vanished, and in the next second, I could feel a voice echo again... behind me. - "You know, if you have my information, you must know my specialty… Look, I've never tasted human blood, so..." - As Dracumon began to speak, Dorumon quickly turned toward me, dashing at full speed. - "Kiyotaka!" - The moment that sound left his mouth, Dorumon's energy began gathering in his mouth, creating a metal sphere. The sphere was sent with full force toward Dracumon.

The enemy Digimon managed to dodge the attack, but had to keep some distance from the squabble. With that, Doru then had enough time to approach me, standing before me and paying full attention to the environment. - "Not even a 'Thank you' for saving you?" - With the question asked, my eyes just focused on Dorumon. - "You know well, no. Well, we can't lose focus on the fight." - My reply was cold, but direct. Still, this caused Doru's tail to wag slightly, showing his displeasure.

- "What a cheap shot. Attacking the human in battle, just because he's weaker than the Digimon." - When I said that, a laugh echoed. - "I should thank you for the compliment. Cheap shots and pranks are my specialty!" - The same childish and ironic tone as always... But, in the end, he was right. - "And, you have a point. Your nature is difficult to handle, Dracumon." - The Digivice began to emit a purple light. Both Dorumon and I knew we needed to finish the fight as soon as possible, since we didn't have much time. - "Dorumon, let's go all out." - The little dragon merely nodded his head. - "Okay! Let's give our all then!" -

- "I wanted to have a little more fun, but since you're coming at me with everything... I'll do the same... Hehe." - Again, the same high-pitched tone as before, though he now seemed a bit more aggressive. Dracumon is probably about to start taking the fight seriously, so... We can't let our guard down or lose concentration.

With Dracumon's last laugh, a kind of light began to emanate from the eyes on his hands, and, because of that, something appeared on the field: clones. Not one, not two, but simply... Ten. A trick to try to confuse Dorumon and me. - "Come on, try to find the real one!" - All the clones spoke at the same time, causing their voices to echo. But there existed a small error in Dracumon's actions... The Digivice. Through the information provided by the Digivice, I knew that one of Dracumon's main skills was using illusions in battle.

So, my eyes focused on the clones, while the Digivice in my hands once again emitted that purple glow. - "Alright... Let's go. Dorumon, Dash Metal!" With the command, the beast-like Digimon rushed at one of the Dracumons. Bit by bit, Dorumon's energy began to gather in his mouth, and, unlike last time, the Digimon shot two metal spheres at the Digimon ahead—but it was nothing more than an illusion.

- "Just as I expected." - But, everything was already in my plans. The moment Dorumon dashed, I also started moving across the field, and, bringing the Digivice close to my mouth, I issued the command. - "Shoot in all directions." - At the very moment my voice echoed in his mind via the Digivice's sync, the little dinosaur Digimon spun his body in a 360° horizontal motion. As he spun, many metallic spheres were fired everywhere. All the Dracumons present were hit, but the spheres just passed through their bodies, which meant all of them were just illusions.

This caused some confusion in Dorumon—after all, where was the real Dracumon? Well, the answer was simple... If he couldn't win cleanly in a fight against Dorumon, he'd try to win dirty... by attacking Kiyotaka—or rather… by attacking me.

Like a shadow lurking in darkness, Dracumon soon appeared above me. The blades in Dracumon's hands were ready to pierce the human below, until...

- "Predictable. You weren't the first Digimon to try to attack me instead of Dorumon." - My voice was calm, and without much delay, a command was sent via the Digivice. - "Above me... Hyper Dash Metal." Like an absolute order, the once-confused Dorumon turned toward me instinctively and dashed with all speed at Dracumon. The five meters of space were crossed in a single leap by the small dinosaur, who, upon hitting Dracumon... Did something different.

Instead of simply throwing the Digimon away as before, Dorumon grabbed Dracumon and slammed the vampire Digimon forcefully into the ground. The small collision caused a crater in the area... But Dorumon didn't stop. Getting off Dracumon's body, Dorumon then started gathering energy in his claws and hands, and... began striking Dracumon. Not just one punch, not two, but... Several. With each blow Dorumon landed on Dracumon, the purple Digimon's eyes grew wilder, more... Bestial. It was as if, in that moment, the Digimon was about to lose control, but. - "Dorumon, stop." - My command was clear, and when he heard it, Dorumon snapped back to reality.

- "Hm? Wh... What? What happened?" - His expression and voice held a confused tone, and seeing that, I just moved a little closer. - "Nothing. You don't need to worry about it anymore, we've alrea—..." -

- "How.... FASCINATING!!!!" - In the middle of my words, Dracumon's laughter echoed again, and before we noticed, the Digimon had already escaped the crater and now stood among the warehouses.

- "You know, that was simply... INCREDIBLE! I really enjoyed playing with you, seriously!!" - Dracumon's expression still retained the classic smile, though a bit more... Distorted. - "But... I don't accept losing... you know?" - Cold... That was the sensation that took hold of the area after his words. I wasn't the only one to notice; Dorumon also noticed, as he was watching Dracumon as if ready to attack at any second.

Silence took over the area... Until from Dracumon's body... an explosion of energy was released.

- "LET'S TAKE THIS FIGHT TO THE NEXT LEVEL!! ENTERTAIN ME MORE!!" - The gathered energy was gigantic, to the point where a kind of light began to emerge from Dracumon's body. Soon, Dorumon and I finally understood what was happening at that moment.

At the moment evolution began, Dracumon's body was fully enveloped by a kind of white sphere. The energy was enough to brighten the entire place where we stood, and, after a few seconds... the white sphere finally broke apart.

[Sangloupmon!]

Sangloupmon... This was Dracumon's evolution. Unlike Dracumon, who looked somewhat like a child, Sangloupmon was quite different: the Digimon had a canine appearance, leaning more toward a wolf. Its fur was mostly purple, along with several red markings found across its body. Yet the detail that drew most attention to its body were its blades: all four legs bore large blades ready to cut through anything. Additionally, on both front legs and around its head, there appeared what looked like "bat wings." These wings weren't very big, but were extremely durable.

- "Now... Are you ready for the next battle?" - The canine Digimon's words were directed at me and Dorumon, who merely observed Dracumon's new form, Sangloupmon. It seemed, in the end, that the fight was not over.

- "Kiyotaka... How are we going to defeat that thing?" - Dorumon's question came quickly, and in response, I simply watched the adult-level Digimon in front of me.

- "To win.... We must give it our best, Dorumon." - My voice finally echoed in the area, and upon hearing that, Doru just gave a small smile. - " Okay! Then... LET'S GIVE IT OUR ALL!!" -

The true battle of the night was about to begin.

- "Hm? What's going on here?" - A strange voice emerged. At that moment, both Dorumon, Sangloupmon and I turned toward the source of the voice, and there... stood a boy.

- "Hey... What's going on here? What was all that light that just happened?" -

To be continued...
