Chapter 24 - A New Base… Next Door to Fatui?!

Inside the main village of the Masters of the Night-Wind, Liang Chuan received a warm and extravagant welcome.

That evening, the dining table was laden with all sorts of exotic delicacies unique to Natlan.

There was Moment of Rest—a dish made from bird, beast, and fish meat mixed with berry grains.

Marvelous Sugar—a dessert crafted from Embercore Flowers, sugar, jam, and fruit grains.

And other foods with names Liang Chuan had never heard before: Sing in Joy, Of Mountain, Sea, and Sky, and Berry Wraps.

After living like a primitive man in the wild for so long, Liang Chuan finally let himself go—this meal was pure bliss.

He couldn't help but wear an expression of intoxicated delight, the kind He Jiu might make after a few drinks.

This meal… was divine!

To repay the Smokeveiled Chief's generous hospitality, Liang Chuan handed out a bottle of [Minor Vitality Potion] to everyone at the table.

It wasn't that he was being stingy—he simply didn't want to reveal too much of what he had. Until he possessed overwhelming strength, drawing too much attention would only bring trouble.

Even though a [Minor Vitality Potion] only cost ten copper coins back in Teyvat, to the Masters of the Night-Wind it was a precious gift. After all, the food of this world couldn't truly restore health—let alone resurrect the dead.

A single bottle of that potion might one day save a Natlan tribesman's life when the abyssal eruption began in full force.

For Citlali—an avid fan of light novels—Liang Chuan shared a few stories from memory:

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Whisper of the Pharmacist Girl, A Certain Magical Index, and others.

But Citlali showed little interest in the isekai reincarnation stories. After all, she lived in what was essentially another world already; she was far too familiar with that concept.

Instead, the modern and historical themes fascinated her. She threw herself into the stories completely, imagining how she'd fare if she crossed into the "modern era" with her powers.

Liang Chuan joked,

"Well, if you did, you could set up a fortune-telling stall under a bridge. At least you wouldn't starve."

He had only shared a few plot summaries, but Citlali was instantly hooked. By the end of the night, she'd practically become his die-hard reader.

She even fantasized about locking him in a little room—forcing him to do nothing but write, eat, and sleep until he'd finished every story she wanted to hear!

If Liang Chuan had known about that twisted "reader's plan," he probably would've never humored her in the first place.

The next morning, Citlali took Liang Chuan southeast—to the home of her eldest grandson.

"Liang Chuan! Where's the continuation? You promised me last night you'd write a few more chapters!"

Riding atop her summoned beast, Itzpapa, Citlali turned to him, eyes blazing.

"Ah, about that continuation…" Liang Chuan handed her a piece of paper.

Citlali glanced at it—and her burning gaze turned dead and lifeless.

"Liang Chuan! You're brushing me off! This isn't a continuation—it's just an outline!"

"I told you, those light novels weren't written by me. I only remember the general story! You can't expect me to recall every word!" Liang Chuan sighed helplessly.

"Impossible! The worlds you described—I've lived two hundred years and never heard of anything like them! They could only come from someone like you, a traveler from another world!"

"Yes, they come from my world," Liang Chuan admitted, "but that doesn't mean I wrote them…"

"I'll give you that," she said, crossing her arms. "But can't you at least write in more detail? Something beyond a single page of notes?"

Liang Chuan: "..."

Seeing her pleading expression, he could only sigh.

"I'll… do my best."

Of course, he knew he could just ask other players for the full story if he needed to.

He just worried that Citlali might fall too deep into her obsession and start spending every day pestering him for updates…

"Grandma? What brings you here?"

A voice called out.

While the two were chatting, Itzpapa had already landed at their destination.

"Grandma, is this your friend?"

The young man smiled at Liang Chuan.

"Hello, Grandpa! I'm Ororon, Grandma's grandson. I grow cabbages here—but I'm not a cabbage seller! Do you like cabbages, Grandpa? I can give you some if you'd like."

Hearing himself called "Grandpa," Liang Chuan almost spread his arms dramatically and shouted, 'Grandpa has arrived!'

But he restrained himself and waved dismissively.

"No need to call me Grandpa—we're about the same age."

"You're Grandma's friend, so you're her peer. That makes you Grandpa."

"Ororon! How many times have I told you not to assume things like that?" Citlali scolded. "Just because someone looks like they're my age doesn't mean you can call everyone in the street Grandpa or Grandma!"

"Got it, Grandma," Ororon said sheepishly. Then, after a moment's hesitation, he looked at Liang Chuan again.

"But he does seem close to you, so he must be your friend. And that means… Grandpa."

"…If you insist on calling me that, I guess I'll just have to accept it," Liang Chuan said with a shrug.

"Grandpa, Grandma—what brings you here?" Ororon asked, setting down his farming tools.

Citlali turned her gaze toward Liang Chuan.

Liang Chuan nodded and explained their purpose in detail.

Ororon propped his chin thoughtfully.

"A place suitable for building a base… I do know a few, but they're all small spots. From what you've said, Grandpa, you're looking for somewhere that can hold thousands—maybe tens of thousands—of people. My old camps won't do."

"What about a direction for a larger base?" Liang Chuan pressed.

"For something that size, a plain would be best," Ororon said. "Let's head toward the lowlands first. Once we're there, we can pick a location based on the resources you need."

"Plains, huh? But Natlan seems full of mountains—everywhere you go, it's either uphill or downhill. Are there even plains here?" Liang Chuan frowned.

"There are," Ororon nodded. "Quite a few, actually. It just takes some effort to find one with the right resources."

"Oh! I know a vast plain that's rich in resources!" Citlali said, tapping the air with a smile. "If we go west from here, we'll find it!"

"Grandma… the plane you're talking about—we probably shouldn't go there," Ororon said hesitantly.

"Why not? Too many monsters? That's not a problem. We'll wipe them out sooner or later," Liang Chuan replied.

"Monsters are one reason," Ororon sighed. "But the real problem is… the Fatui."

He looked up, eyes serious.

"Grandpa, are you really willing… to live next door to Fatui?"
