Dahlia's POV
Those words sent ice through my veins, and my pulse quickened with dread.
"Tell him I'm swamped right now and can't talk," I said quickly, my voice tight with anxiety.
I knew this was just buying time. Soren would track me down eventually, but every minute of delay felt precious. Maybe I could figure out how to explain the disaster with his sister before then.
Kellan shifted uncomfortably. "Mrs. Zaid, Mr. Zaid said he needs to—"
"Emilio is bleeding all over the place. That's more important right now." I cut him off sharply, gesturing toward the injured man. "Just tell Soren I'll call him back when I can."
The truth was, I was already drowning in regret about my showdown with Charline.
No matter how much of a nightmare she was, she remained Soren's sister. Blood was blood, and family dynamics in the Zaid clan were clearly more complicated than I'd realized.
