Chapter 4 - Into The Bears Den

Ian moved quickly through the forest. He ran through the trees on high alert. As he neared the bear's territory it started getting dark. He had been moving through the forest for hours at this point, taking multiple breaks in between to keep himself in prime condition.

In the distance he saw a tree, but this one looked different from the rest of the forest. There were huge claw marks all over the trunk. They were each as wide as Ian's arm.

'I made it! But it is getting dark so I'll make a camp, log out to drink water and go to the bathroom then come kill this bitch'

Ian ran toward a tall unmarked tree and climbed up its trunk. Sitting on a wide branch he tied himself to the tree so his body didn't fall and got in a comfortable position.

When you log out technically the body is still there so keeping it safe and comfortable was paramount to staying in good condition.

Finally Ian closed his eyes and when he ipened them he was no longer the tall half elf ranger.

Getting out of bed Ian headed toward the kitched. He drank a glass of water then headed to the restroom. After relieving himself he looked in the fridge fo find a snack.

Luckily they had milk so Ian poured himself a bowl of cereal and ate quickly. After scarfing down the bowl he ran upstairs to his room again and laid down. It was time, a bear was gonna die now.

Logging back in he regained control of his body. Just like he left it he was still on a particularly thick branch. Only now it was sunrise instead if night.

Climbing down Ian started stretching, maiking sure his body was in good condition for the hunt. Checking his gear and armor one last time Ian finally moved toward the bears den.

The further he walked into its territory the more scars lined the trees. Eventually Ian saw a big open aread in the middle of the forest. There was a hill in there with a cave on it.

It seemed like this was where the Iron-Skin Bear called home. Climbing a tree for a better view of the area Ian activated [Hawk Eyes].

His vision sharpened and his field of view expanded. Ian's head throbbed and he clenched his jaw as he looked all around for this bear. Focusing on the cave he saw it. A 7 foot tall bear laying there, loking like a huge rock.

Focusing, Ian took aim. He nocked his arrow and took a deep breath. His vision zeroed in one point, the bear's eye. He lasered in his focus and let go of the string.

FWIP

The arrow flew. As it neared its target Ian stopped breathing briefly. Then it hit.

ROAAAAAAAARRRARARAA

A loud roar confirmed that the arrow found its target. At that moment a window appeared before Ian.

'Awesome! But there's no time gotta move!'

Ian moved quickly as the bear stormed out of its cave. He ran around toward the right aiming to hit its other eye.

When the bear saw him, its remaining eye went red with rage. Ian ran as fast as he could while the bear began to chase him in a frenzied state.

The bear was getting closer and closer to Ian. It was far faster and stronger than him. If Ian took more that two hits he would definitely die. The bear swung its claws toward Ian's back.

Sensing its movement Ian rolled forward, barely dodging what would have been a critical injury. Ian got up and resumed running. He saw a tree not too far from him he could climb to maybe get a shot off.

'Have to make another move at some point. Can't keep running'

Ian quickly pivoted and ran straight towards this tree. The bear was hot on his heels and every second this chase continued it got angrier.

As Ian scrambled up the tree the bear swung its claws wildly. One swing connected and Ian's left leg received a nasty cut. Blood splatter from the wound and Ian winced. He had turned down the pain receptors but this still hurt like hell. Maybe he'll turn them off completely next time.

Ian barely made it up the tree onto a stable branch. The bear was below him swinging its arms wildly reaching for him. The tree had taken some damage from the claws and if it kept swinging like that fhe tree wouldn't hold out.

Ian had to act quickly and so he did. He nocked another arrow and focused his vision activating both pf his skills.

The bear continued its wild movement making it a bit harder to aim but with his [Intermediate Marksmanship] Ian could still lock in his target.

He took a deep breath and fired his arrow.

FWIP

Bullseye. The bear shrieked in pain as its other eye was shot. Now blind it began to panic even more frenzied than before.

Ian fired more arrows most bounced off its tough fur. Only those targeting weak spots truly had any impact. Looking around with [Hawk Eyes] Ian got an idea.

He jumped down the tree carefully landing as to not hurt his left leg even more. After getting up he yelled.

"Over here dumbass!!"

The bear tirned toward him following his voice and ran. It tried all it could kill Ian.

Ian continued his cat and mouse chase with the bear leading it to ramming through trees and smash into boulders.

The bear got more and more injured because of its own rampage. Ian just taunted it and ran while occasionally shooting an arrow to ammoy it.

Eventually the bear started getting tired. Not only was it losing a lot of blood, it had been running after Ian for the past fifteen minutes while constantly ramming through things. Tree after tree and the occasional rock did a lot of damage to the creatures head and it collapsed.

Peaking out from behind a tree Ian approached the bear. He touched its head and grabbed the knife Ron had given him to skin the deer.

He stabbed the bear in the head ending its suffering.

'You were strong bear. If I didn't use these tactics I wouldn't have been able to win. In fact I almost lost despite using these tactics.'

"You were tough. A worthy opponent"
