Heaven's got a sense of humor—who's it rewarding today?
After waiting so long, Taylor finally got her turn to shine.
Until now, she'd had to watch Luke film intimate scenes with others—his love scene with Zhang Ziyu in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and those kissing scenes with Anne Hathaway in The Diary That Started From the Past and The Lake House.
Each time, Taylor felt herself turning a little greener with jealousy—green Taylor, you could say.
But today, the tables had finally turned. She was the one in control this time, and of course, the male lead had already been "secretly decided"—Luke.
Even so, she couldn't help feeling nervous about asking.
Ever since their first meeting, she'd known Luke already had someone in his heart. But she just couldn't stop herself from wanting to get closer.
At least for this moment, she was willing to play the ostrich—bury her head in the sand and not think too much.
"..."
When Luke didn't respond, Taylor asked softly, "You don't agree?"
She told herself that if he said no, she'd cut all the kissing scenes.
But seriously—why should he say no?
Anne got to kiss him, didn't she? Why can't I?
It's not like I'd even mind kissing him after he kissed Anne!
"I wasn't ignoring you," Luke finally said. "I just couldn't talk—you stepped on my foot."
"Huh? Oh my God, I'm so sorry!"
Only then did Taylor notice her thin high heel had landed squarely on his foot when she'd stepped forward in excitement.
"It's fine," he said, smiling. "I'm built tough. It'll be fine in a minute."
"Then it's settled! Save time for me—I want to shoot two music videos."
Settled? Since when?
Luke hadn't even agreed yet, but Taylor pretended not to notice and went ahead as if it were official.
He could only smile. He already knew exactly which two songs she meant—Love Story and You Belong With Me.
Both global hits. Being the male lead in those videos would definitely boost his fame even more.
"But…" Taylor said hesitantly, "I'm kind of worried. What if I can't do the kissing scene well?"
"No problem," Luke replied smoothly. "Don't worry—I've got plenty of experience… in acting."
"Yeah, but I've never even kissed anyone before. Doing that on camera for the first time—I'll probably freeze up."
By that logic, he thought, a girl with no experience shouldn't be able to act out love scenes either.
But reality and acting were two different worlds—every professional in Japan could tell you that.
Try pulling something like that on a real train, and see how that goes—you'd be getting a call home, not applause.
Then Taylor lowered her voice. "Can I… maybe kiss you first?"
"…What?"
"It's for work," she said quickly. "I just think I should get used to it ahead of time. Otherwise, it'll be super awkward when we actually shoot."
That excuse sounded oddly familiar—someone else had used it not too long ago.
Of course, Luke wasn't about to refuse. He smiled and took a step closer.
Taylor took a deep breath, her heart racing as she tilted her face toward him.
In her heels, she was nearly his height—no need to tiptoe.
She could feel his warm breath brushing against her skin.
God, what do I do with my hands?
Do I put them around his neck?
Or under his arms?
Do I tilt my head a little?
A dozen thoughts flashed through her mind—
And then vanished completely.
Luke gently cupped her face, holding it like it was something precious.
The tenderness in his eyes made Taylor's heart melt.
Her shyness and hesitation disappeared.
She wrapped her arms around his waist and kissed him.
No fancy moves—just a quiet, lingering kiss, the kind that lets you feel each other breathe.
At that moment, Luke's mind flashed to Taylor's own song—Our Song.
It's like that first date when you regret not kissing her, thinking, "Oh God, I should've kissed her."
And then you ask heaven for another chance.
But when she wrote that song, she'd already made up her mind—not to wait for another chance. Just take it.
The scent of her perfume mixed with the rain in the air. He could feel her soft breath against his cheek, the faint sweetness of her skin.
And beneath it, the tiny tremble that betrayed how fast her heart was beating.
After half a minute, Taylor pulled back, her face bright red. "Still not natural enough. Guess I'll need more practice before shooting."
Luke chuckled and reached out to ruffle her hair gently.
She was tall—he actually had to raise his hand quite a bit.
Then, suddenly, light rain began to fall from the sky.
It wasn't heavy at first, but it was picking up.
"There's a place to rest up ahead," Luke said. "Let's get out of the rain."
"But I can't walk fast in these heels."
Without a word, Luke crouched down, slipped off her high heels, and handed them to her.
Before she could react, he lifted her onto his back and started running through the path ahead.
They dashed through the forest trail and soon reached the edge of a flower field.
Right there stood the little inn from The Lake House.
Just as they stepped under the awning, the rain came pouring down.
"Whew, that was close," Luke said, still steady-breathed despite carrying her the whole way. "A second later and your favorite dress would've been soaked."
"Yeah," she laughed. "We got lucky."
"Come on, let's go inside and have a drink."
"When I watched your short film, I always wanted to come here for a drink!" she said excitedly.
Luke pushed open the door. "Boss, we're here."
The inn was empty—not a single guest.
Taylor paused, then realized that made sense.
This was the countryside, after all. Late at night, hardly anyone would be around.
Not every inn was packed 24/7—especially not one like this.
"Luke, you finally made it," the owner said with a warm smile. "If I hadn't promised to wait for you, I'd have closed up long ago."
"You knew I wanted to come here?" Taylor asked in surprise. "You told him to stay open for us?"
"Of course he did," the owner said, chuckling. "He's even got a bottle saved here. Said a beautiful lady would be coming tonight, and he wanted to share his favorite wine with her—to make her happy."
The owner poured a glass and handed it to Taylor.
Taylor's heart just about exploded.
It was straight out of The Lake House—too perfect, too romantic.
God, he's good, she thought, her heart blooming like a flower.
She took the glass, raised it to her lips, and sipped.
The sweetness filled her mouth instantly.
Honestly, it didn't matter what she was drinking—at that moment, even plain water would've tasted divine.
So she downed the whole glass in one go.
"Another, please," she said with a bright smile.
Luke gently held her hand down. "Easy there. You don't want to get drunk."
She looked up at him with a teasing glint. "Do you want me to get drunk?"
