Chapter 364: The Champion!! Is Born!
Just as the world collectively decided that Mega Beedrill was finished, the thick black smoke surrounding its body suddenly stilled. The chaotic curse energy of the Perish Song, which should have dissolved the insect's very soul, abruptly evaporated into nothingness.
Mega Beedrill remained suspended in mid-air, stiff and silent.
It looked gaunt, its movements were slow, and it was clearly weakened to the absolute brink of collapse. Its exoskeleton was cracked and leaking vital fluids.
But despite the impossible strain, Mega Beedrill did not fall. It stood tall in the center of the crater, defying the natural laws of the Pokémon world.
"WHAT!!!!???"
"How?! What just happened??"
"No way!! Why is that Beedrill still in the air??!"
"Did Perish Song miss?? Is that even possible?"
"Are you stupid? You saw the smoke! You heard the melody! It hit! So why is it still alive?!"
The stands devolved into absolute pandemonium. Any trainer with a shred of knowledge knew the absolute rule of the Perish Song: when the countdown ends, the target faints. Period. Neither Protect nor Endure could stop it. It was a biological certainty.
Yet, here in the Phoenix Nest, that ironclad law had just been broken.
"This... this shouldn't be possible," Yuna Su whispered, her voice tight with shock.
Usually, the only way to ignore the curse was a massive, insurmountable level gap. But Gengar was a Level 100 Master. Beedrill was the underdog in level. The math didn't add up.
The most shocked person in the stadium was Grandma Liu. Her eyes widened behind her mask. In her two centuries of life, she had never seen a Pokémon survive the final note of that song.
Kenji stared at his partner, his heart hammering in his chest.
Mega Beedrill was shrouded in a faint, ethereal golden glow.
The [Last Stand] Hex Core.
The Silver-tier augment had triggered. It didn't care about the laws of nature or the mechanics of moves; it forcibly retained a sliver of Beedrill's stamina and granted it a desperate surge of power.
But Kenji knew this was a temporary stay of execution. Beedrill was in its final seconds. If it couldn't end the match now, it would collapse from the sheer weight of its injuries. He suppressed his own panic, focusing entirely on the mental link. He didn't want to distract his partner; he wanted to become a part of its focus.
The arena was deathly quiet once more—the silence before a supernova.
Mega Beedrill was waiting. Its scarlet compound eyes were no longer scanning the field; they were unfocused, looking inward. Its antennae twitched with microscopic frequency.
One second... two seconds...
SUDDENLY!!
A spark of pure, blinding light ignited in Mega Beedrill's eyes. It moved. It didn't just fly; it exploded toward a seemingly empty patch of air on the far side of the pit.
As Beedrill launched, the air at its destination rippled. Mega Gengar materialized out of thin air, caught in the middle of transitioning back to the physical world.
The ghost's expression was one of pure, raw horror. It had expected its opponent to be a corpse. It had never anticipated a high-speed charge from a dying insect.
Panic seized the master ghost. It tried to trigger its spatial ability, attempting to slip back into the safety of the "Reverse World."
Kenji's eyes were wide, his lungs burning. This is it! The only chance!!
Time seemed to freeze. Success or failure rested on a single nanosecond.
Mega Beedrill closed the distance.
Ten meters... five meters... one meter!!!
Just as the lance-tip was about to pierce its chest, Mega Gengar's form became translucent. It was fading, its body already half-submerged in the void.
For a heartbeat, Kenji's heart sank. Was it too slow? Did we miss?
"SIII!!!!! —"
Mega Beedrill let out a piercing shriek that sounded like grinding metal. At the very tip of its glowing stinger, a point of pure, white radiance erupted. It didn't just thrust; it aimed for the space where the ghost had just been.
CR-CR-CRACK!!!!! —
BOOM!!!!!! —
"GEN-GAAAAA!!!!! —"
A scream of absolute agony tore through the stadium, accompanied by a sound like a window shattering. In the next instant, the fading Mega Gengar was jerked back into reality, launched across the field as if hit by a freight train.
Kenji stood frozen, his entire body trembling. He couldn't speak. He couldn't breathe.
In the air, Mega Beedrill remained in its lunging pose, lance extended.
And where it had struck... the air was broken.
A literal Fissure had appeared in the fabric of space.
Through the jagged, dark tear, one could see a glimpse of an endless, silent void—the "Interdimensional Space" where Gengar had been hiding.
Mega Beedrill hadn't just hit the ghost; it had reached through the dimensions. It had mastered a level of power so absolute that it had physically torn open the door to the other world to drag its opponent out and crush it!!!
The crack in reality lingered for a second before sealing itself shut with a sharp whoosh. The air returned to normal, but the image was burned into the mind of every person present.
"He... he punched through the dimensions??!"
A spectator's voice cracked. His brain was trying to find a logical explanation and failing miserably.
But the eyes didn't lie.
Just as water can be evaporated by fire if the heat is high enough, the "Type Advantage" of a Ghost's spatial phasing had been rendered meaningless. When a physical force reaches the absolute ceiling of the universe, reality itself bends to its will.
Kenji understood. Beedrill's power hadn't just increased; its concept of strength had evolved. It had reached a state of "Dimensional Mastery."
"This... this can't be..." Rainey Chang stammered, her mouth agape.
To shatter the boundaries of space required a level of raw energy that even most Master-rank Pokémon couldn't achieve. This was a feat usually reserved for Deities like Dialga or Palkia.
Zhurong Yun watched the field, already making a mental comparison. Could his Blaziken do that? Even with the blessing of Ho-Oh, tearing space was a Herculean task. And this boy's Beedrill was only Level 94.
"Gen... gar..."
Mega Gengar lay in a heap at the edge of the pit. A flash of white light passed over its body as the Mega Evolution failed. It reverted to its round, purple form, lying flat on its back with arms spread wide.
It was out.
The Ghost King had fallen.
The stadium was silent for a long, agonizing moment, the audience still processing the impossible. Finally, the referee raised his flag with a shaky hand.
"Gengar is unable to battle!!! Beedrill wins the round!!!"
"Trainer Elder Venom has lost all six Pokémon!! Congratulations to Kenji for winning the match!!!"
"IT'S OVER!!! IT'S FINALLY OVER!!! THE CHAMPION OF THE HUAXIA LEAGUE CONFERENCE HAS BEEN DECIDED!!!"
"CONGRATULATIONS TO KENJI!!! HE HAS DEFEATED EVERY OPPONENT IN HIS PATH TO CLAIM THE THRONE AS THE NEW GRAND CHAMPION!!!!"
"STAND UP AND LET HIM HEAR YOU! WELCOME THE YOUNGEST CHAMPION IN THE HISTORY OF THE HUAXIA LEAGUE!!!!"
The Phoenix Nest erupted into a volcano of noise. The sound was so great it likely could be heard across the entire Capital. Kenji stood in his box, the weight of the crown finally settling on his shoulders. He had done it. He was the King of Huaxia.
