Chapter 362: The Final Battle!!!! (Part 6)
As the dust began to settle, the thick black mist swirled back into the center of the field.
The scene of the arena was revealed once more to the hundred thousand spectators. When they saw that Mega Gengar had completely vanished, a wave of confusion rippled through the stands. But as their eyes adjusted to the floor—now shattered and gouged out by the sheer pressure of Mega Beedrill's last strike—the confusion turned into a collective gasp of horror.
"My god... that Beedrill is a freak. One miss and it basically deleted the entire arena."
"Forget the arena! If it wasn't for that secondary shadow barrier, the shockwaves from those two would have leveled the whole Phoenix Nest by now."
A keen-eyed spectator pointed at the vibrating, inky film surrounding the field. "This isn't a tournament match anymore; it's a collision of gods."
Compared to the frantic chatter in the stands, the battlefield itself was deathly quiet.
The black mist drifted lazily through the air. Mega Beedrill's crimson eyes scanned every inch of the space. It had even brought its wing vibrations down to a near-silent hum, refusing to let the sound of its own body interfere with its combat intuition.
The silence was absolute. Kenji knew the truth: Mega Gengar was lurking in a localized rift in the void, watching, waiting for the exact nanosecond Beedrill's focus wavered to deliver a killing blow.
Time ticked by, the tension becoming physical. In a high-level battle between Master-rank entities, the tide often turned in the space of a single breath.
"GEN-GAAAAA!!!!!"
Psychic Noise!!!
A move that dealt double damage to the Poison-type insect!
Mega Gengar materialized abruptly in a far corner of the pit. It unhinged its massive jaw, and a wave of discordant, psychically-charged sound blasted toward Mega Beedrill. The frequency was so high it caused the air to ripple like water.
Mega Beedrill's tensed body exploded into motion. With a sharp whoosh, it blinked out of the line of fire, reappearing at a safe distance.
"Bug Buzz!!!"
The Psychic Noise hadn't hit directly, but the sonic energy was expanding, filling the arena like a localized earthquake. Mega Beedrill responded instantly, vibrating its wings at a frequency that generated its own wall of sound.
The two sonic attacks collided mid-air, a war of invisible pressures.
BAM! BAM! BAM! —
The arena floor, already shattered into jagged slabs, took the brunt of the resonance. Large chunks of reinforced stone simply pulverized into dust under the overlapping sound waves.
ZZZZZT!!! —
Mega Beedrill intensified its wing speed. While maintaining the Bug Buzz to shield its nervous system from the noise, it charged.
Using the sound waves as a physical buffer, it lunged at the ghost.
Mega Gengar saw the incoming lance and didn't linger. Its form twisted like smoke, and it slipped back into the void.
The moment it vanished, it reappeared directly behind Beedrill. The coin-like structure on its forehead flared with a blinding purple light as it condensed its immense mental power into a focused beam.
Psychic!!!!
Mega Beedrill sensed the spike in energy behind it.
Aerial Ace!!!!!
BOOM!!!! —
The Psychic beam grazed the insect's carapace as Beedrill performed an impossible mid-air roll. The beam hit the floor, punching a clean hole straight through the foundation.
Beedrill whipped its body around, unleashing a Pin Missile in mid-turn. Hundreds of glowing white needles sprayed outward like a shotgun blast toward the ghost.
Mega Gengar vanished again, warping to another corner to continue the assault.
In the air, the two exchanged a dozen moves every second. To the naked eye, it was just flashes of yellow and purple light popping across the crater.
Only by slowing the footage down several hundred times could the experts see the detail: the surgical precision of the lances, the micro-warps of the ghost, and the terrifying velocity of every exchange.
The arena's floor had been lowered by nearly fifteen meters—it looked like a nuclear test site. And as the intensity climbed, even Mega Gengar's reinforced barrier began to show hairline fractures.
This was with both Pokémon restraining themselves. There were moves in a Level 100 Gengar's kit so devastating that if used without care, the entire stadium would simply cease to exist.
Grandma Liu's cold eyes watched the field. She knew a stalemate favored the younger trainer's stamina. She needed to break the rhythm.
"Double Team!!!"
SWISH SWISH SWISH!!! —
Dozens of Mega Gengar clones materialized, filling every square inch of the crater.
"Shadow Burial!!!"
"GEN-GAAAA!!!! —"
The clones didn't attack. Instead, they began to swell. The one closest to Mega Beedrill detonated first.
KRA-KOOM!!! —
A horrific explosion of concentrated curse energy rocked the stadium. But it was just the beginning. One by one, every single clone triggered its own detonation, turning the arena into a sequential chain of dark matter explosions.
The coverage was total. No matter how fast Mega Beedrill was, there was nowhere left to fly!!!
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!! —
The combined force was so high that the secondary barrier nearly shattered. The "Shadow Burial" was at the absolute limit of what the arena's physics could contain!!!!
And Mega Beedrill was at the very epicenter of the chain reaction.
Kenji's heart hammered against his ribs, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles were white.
In the final millisecond, Mega Beedrill had managed to trigger Protect.
But Beedrill was an assassin, not a tank. Its defensive capabilities were its weakest link. Could a standard energy shield hold against a Master-rank nuke? Kenji wasn't sure.
The Radiant Edge of Night was its only hope, but even its invincibility had a duration.
"Aaaaaaa..."
A haunting, melodic song began to drift through the smoke.
It sounded joyful, almost playful, but the core of the melody was pure tragedy. It was a sound that made the skin crawl and the heart stutter.
Perish Song!!!
As the song echoed, the smoke finally cleared.
The arena was no longer a crater; it was a scorched abyss, looking like the surface of the moon after a heavy bombardment.
At the very bottom of the pit, a single, battered figure stood.
It was Mega Beedrill.
Its golden armor was cracked. Fluid leaked from its joints. It looked broken.
The Protect barrier had failed. The Shadow Burial had shredded its defenses and slammed into its physical form.
The only reason it was still standing was the Radiant Edge of Night. The item had triggered its 2.5 seconds of invulnerability, allowing the insect to survive the unsurvivable.
Mega Beedrill hovered alone in the center of the ruin, its twin lances drooping slightly.
Mega Gengar was too strong. Its spatial mastery rendered Beedrill's speed and power useless.
And now, the clock was ticking. Battered and exhausted, Mega Beedrill had heard the melody. It was now under the curse of the Perish Song.
In three turns, the Ace would fall.
