Chapter 360 - Chapter 360: The Final Battle! (Part 4)

Chapter 360: The Final Battle! (Part 4)

Upon Mega Evolving, Mega Gengar's body became covered in wicked purple spikes. Its original tail had vanished, replaced by even more jagged protrusions. Its hands were braced against the ground, and its mouth had unhinged, growing so large that its grin seemed to wrap around its entire head. Set into the center of its forehead was a strange, yellow structure resembling an ancient coin.

In this form, Mega Gengar was the total embodiment of a curse. Its body was a reservoir of concentrated spite, and the evolution had granted it the ability to phase through dimensions at will. It could slip into the void to evade any strike or linger in the gaps between realities, waiting for the perfect moment to kill.

"GEN-GAAAA!!!! —"

Mega Gengar let out a bone-chilling cackle. As shadows began to boil and roll around its body, the temperature in the entire stadium plummeted. Within seconds, it dropped nearly thirty degrees, hitting a literal freezing point.

"H-holy... why did it get so cold all of a sudden?"

"Dammit, this isn't normal cold. It's coming from the inside out... my soul feels like it's shivering."

In the stands, the hundred thousand spectators clutched their arms, teeth chattering. The atmosphere in the Phoenix Nest had turned from a sporting event into a horror movie.

"That Gengar... it's a Master-rank Pokémon!!!!" Rainey Chang (Northeast Elite) whispered, her voice trembling as she stared at the screen.

Master-rank. Level 100. It was a tier that required more than just talent; it required a miracle of fate and a lifetime of dedication. It was the "one-in-a-million" ceiling of the Pokémon world.

"Think about it," Lawson (Northwest Elite) said grimly. "The former Poison Queen has had an entire century to refine her craft. For her partner to reach the Master tier isn't an anomaly—it's the logical conclusion of a hundred years of training."

"Two Master-tier entities facing off," Yuna Su added. "I don't think anyone can predict how this ends."

Mega Beedrill's speed had already been clocked near the Champion's Blaziken. That confirmed it: Kenji had also brought a Master-rank threat to the finals. This was a battle between gods—a spectacle Huaxia hadn't seen in over a century.

"GEN-GAAAA!!!! —"

Mega Gengar didn't strike immediately. It gathered the black mist around it, its eyes flaring with a dark light. In a heartbeat, a secondary, faint black film began to rise, layering itself over the arena's existing energy shield.

The stadium's reinforced barrier was the strongest in the world, but against the collision of two Master-rank Pokémon, the shockwaves alone could potentially shatter it. Mega Gengar was preemptively reinforcing the cage to ensure the "ants" in the audience didn't get vaporized.

"Beedrill!!! Agility!!"

Kenji knew better than anyone what he was up against. He didn't order an attack yet. He needed speed. He needed his partner to be untouchable.

Mega Beedrill vanished. It was no longer "moving"; it was a blur that exceeded the human eye's ability to track. Boosted by the Radiant Items and Agility, its velocity was reaching a theoretical limit.

"Think you can run? Gengar! Disable!!"

"GEN-GAAAA!!! —"

Mega Gengar shut its eyes. The Shadow Tag ability flared. Instantly, Gengar's mind locked onto the shadow of the hyper-speed insect racing across the dirt.

The moment the target was locked, Disable was triggered.

It wasn't a move that blocked a skill this time; it was a physical anchor. Mega Beedrill's shadow was suddenly glued to the arena floor by an irresistible psychic force. Because the shadow was pinned, the body followed. The golden insect was jerked out of its high-speed flight, freezing mid-air as if caught in invisible amber.

Grandma Liu's Disable, boosted by her Master-rank stats and Shadow Tag, was absolute. Anything below the Master tier would have been paralyzed forever.

"Beedrill!!! Outrage! Break it with Poison Jab!!!"

"SIII!!!!! —"

Mega Beedrill's eyes turned a violent, glowing red. Red veins pulsed across its exoskeleton as it drew upon the primal fury of Outrage. Using the raw power of the rage-boost to override the psychic lock, it drove its lance downward.

The coin-like structure on Mega Gengar's forehead flashed. It opened its massive mouth and spat a Shadow Ball at point-blank range.

BANG!!! —

Poison Jab met Shadow Ball. The two energies collided, resulting in a total elemental neutralization. But the kinetic feedback was catastrophic.

CRACK!!! — BOOM!!!! —

A thunderous explosion rocked the arena. The shockwave of the impact slammed into the primary energy shield, which shattered instantly like cheap glass.

Fortunately, Mega Gengar's secondary barrier held, though it groaned under the pressure.

The "simple" Shadow Ball from a Level 100 master had enough power to physically repel the 4-Star Mega Beedrill, forcing the insect back several meters.

"Gengar!! Night Shade!!!"

"GEN-GAAAAA!!!!! —"

In the games, Night Shade dealt fixed damage. In this world, it was the ultimate manifestation of a Ghost's power.

Mega Gengar let out a distorted, manic laugh. The black mist surrounding it began to boil and swell. In a heartbeat, the shadows expanded, rising from the floor to form a colossal, twenty-meter-tall nightmare phantom.

It was a titan made of pure, inky darkness, possessing the same jagged horns and unhinged grin as Gengar. It towered over the arena, casting a shadow that swallowed the entire battlefield.

It was the size of Kenji's giant Tyranitar, but it was composed entirely of malevolent energy. It looked down at the "tiny" Mega Beedrill with eyes of burning crimson.
