Chapter 248: Super Ancient Ruins
That figurine was a clay Psyduck.
On its body were distinct black stripes. One hand was raised, the other hung down. Although the craftsmanship was rough, for some reason, it felt incredibly lifelike.
"This is..."
Kenji's pupils contracted. Looking at this Psyduck figurine, he felt an inexplicable sense of déjà vu, as if he had seen it somewhere before.
But when his eyes fell on another artifact on the table, he was completely dumbfounded.
It was a golden spoon with light brown spots. Its shape was almost identical to the spoons held by Alakazam, except for the color.
What truly shocked Kenji was that after seeing this spoon, he was 100% certain.
He HAD seen these artifacts before!!!
Not in this world, but in the original Pokémon anime from his past life.
He vaguely remembered an episode featuring a Giant Ancient Gengar, a Giant Ancient Alakazam, and a Giant Ancient Jigglypuff.
That episode was quite memorable, which was why Kenji still recalled the general plot after so many years.
Besides the plot, what he remembered most vividly were the artifacts sealing these ancient giants.
The item sealing the Ancient Gengar was a set of three connected black orbs.
The item sealing the Ancient Alakazam was split into two parts.
One part was the golden spoon currently lying quietly on Yun Erdun's table—the key to unsealing the Ancient Alakazam.
Recalling the plot in detail, Kenji sucked in a cold breath. He looked at the spoon with fear.
The anime didn't elaborate much on the origins of these creatures, only that ancient humans, worshiping Pokémon power, created them. Like Mewtwo, they were artificial Pokémon.
The difference lay in the method. Mewtwo was created through cloning technology, while the Ancient Gengar and Alakazam were created based on existing Pokémon but modified through ancient, possibly mystical means.
These two were no ordinary Pokémon. Besides being colossal in size, the Ancient Gengar contained a connection to another dimension within its body and could swallow anything it touched.
The Ancient Alakazam possessed the power to create "special matter" that didn't exist in the natural world.
Their power was terrifying. Not only were they immune to modern Poké Balls, but the shockwaves from their battle could tear open rifts to other dimensions.
Kenji didn't know much else, but one thing was certain: their power was immense.
After all, they had destroyed an entire civilization back in the day.
As for the "world-ending" descriptions in the original lore, Kenji leaned toward believing it was ancient hyperbole.
They were strong, yes, but probably capped at high-tier levels relative to modern standards. Maybe equivalent to Elite or Champion-level Secondary Legendaries.
Anything higher, like First-Class Legendaries (Lugia, Ho-Oh, etc.), would be a stretch. Even a single member of the Legendary Beasts or Birds could probably take them down.
Comparing them to Mewtwo, another artificial Pokémon, Mewtwo was clearly superior.
Mewtwo was cloned from Mew, the ancestor of all Pokémon.
The ancient giants were based on ordinary Gengar and Alakazam. Mewtwo was definitely stronger.
"You recognize this??"
Yun Erdun looked at Kenji, surprised by his strong reaction. It seemed this young man knew something about the artifacts he didn't.
Kenji nodded. "Yeah... I think I saw something like this in an old book once."
"What old book??!" Yun Erdun's eyes widened. Kenji's words instantly grabbed his attention. He stared at Kenji intently.
Kenji was taken aback by Yun Erdun's sudden excitement. He looked down at his hand, which Yun Erdun was gripping tightly.
Realizing his loss of composure, Yun Erdun quickly let go, though his eyes still burned with excitement and anticipation.
Kenji didn't know any "old book," so he made something up. "It was a long time ago. I forgot the name. I used to think it was just a storybook, but seeing this now, maybe the contents were real."
Kenji pointed at the Psyduck figurine and the golden spoon on the table.
"It is said that a long, long time ago, there existed a civilization that worshiped Pokémon to the extreme. To express their reverence, they molded various Pokémon out of clay. A distinct feature of these idols was the black stripes running across their bodies."
Kenji looked at the Psyduck figurine. Sure enough, there were black stripes encircling its body.
Yun Erdun remained silent, seemingly weighing the authenticity of Kenji's "old book" story.
Seeing Yun Erdun still skeptical, Kenji pretended to think for a moment before continuing, "However, this civilization was soon destroyed by two powerful forces. Just as the two forces were fighting most fiercely, a giant bell appeared. The bell's chime finally calmed everything down."
"Those two powerful forces were then sealed away. One was sealed in an artifact resembling three connected black spheres.
The other was sealed in a pestle-like artifact with a single eye.
And this golden spoon... is the key to opening that pestle artifact."
As Kenji's description became more specific, Yun Erdun's eyes grew wider and wider. He turned to look at the golden spoon on his table.
Ring ring ring...
Suddenly, a phone ringing broke the silence of the room.
Yun Erdun pulled out his phone and answered.
"Hello... Yes... When? ... What did you say? Describe it again... Understood. Stop the excavation for now. I'm coming over immediately."
Yun Erdun's expression grew more solemn and incredulous with every second. By the time he hung up, he looked shocked.
"What's wrong?"
Kenji asked.
"They dug up something else at the ruins."
"It looks exactly like the pestle artifact you described."
