Chapter 91 - Chapter 91: Spending Spree

Chapter 91: Spending Spree

The Everstones, once they were processed, were transformed into art objects. The prices naturally soared—some multiplied by several times, others by tens of times.

The sheer cost made Kenji, who just a few months ago was meticulously budgeting every single Pokédollar, gasp in surprise.

But since his Pokémon liked it, Kenji didn't feel bad about spending the money.

After buying Vulpix its pendants, Vulpix sat back down to watch its drama. Kenji, meanwhile, opened his shopping app again, thinking he should buy some Treasures.

The Treasures sold online were mostly of inferior or standard quality. The Special-grade ones were rare, and Exceptional-grade were almost never seen.

Thinking about his Pokémon, Kenji purchased one Special-grade Quick Claw, one Special-grade Mystic Water, two Special-grade Poison Barbs, one standard Dragon Fang, one Special-grade Miracle Seed, two standard Smooth Rocks, and one Special-grade Twisted Spoon.

In addition, Kenji bought many precious ores to feed Larvitar as snacks.

All this shopping, in one go, cost Kenji a whopping 45 million Pokédollars.

It was truly "spending money like water."

Then, Kenji bought himself a storage backpack with more space that was also easier to carry.

After all this shopping, Kenji's bank balance had shrunk by almost half. And this was without buying highly sought-after held items like Life Orb, Focus Sash, or Leftovers.

If he were to factor those in, the cost would be far higher.

But Kenji had the Gacha Fusion System. Any item he pulled from the system would be far more powerful than these standard Treasures, so there was no need to buy them.

With the tournament over, Kenji enjoyed a rare day off. He didn't go to the Battle Tower as usual. Instead, he made a rare choice to sit and watch TV with Vulpix.

In a moment, Ben, Leo's father, called. Kenji had already prepared his explanation. After a bit of convincing, he successfully persuaded Ben to accept the money.

Kenji then messaged both Leo and Melody, giving them a heads-up that he would be sending them Pokémon eggs.

Melody replied quickly. Leo, however, took a few minutes before calling Kenji.

Kenji was comfortably watching TV at the time. Seeing it was Leo, he answered immediately.

"Kenj... Holy crap!!!—"

The moment Leo picked up, he was about to cheerfully greet him but choked, letting out a loud curse. He stared disbelievingly at the space behind Kenji.

Leo's outburst startled Kenji. He realized that the camera had, unfortunately, captured the little Vulpix watching TV behind him.

Kenji moved the camera away. Leo stammered, "Kenji, y-y-you... are you dating someone?"

Kenji immediately clarified, "No! Don't get the wrong idea! She's just a classmate. Don't misunderstand."

Kenji made up a lie on the spot, but Leo's expression was clearly one of suspicion.

Kenji couldn't exactly tell him that the girl was Vulpix's illusion. Even if he dared to say it, Leo wouldn't believe him.

"If she's a classmate, why are you being secretive? Let me say hi," Leo insisted from the other end of the phone.

Kenji was about to refuse, but Vulpix suddenly leaned in, purposefully moving into the camera frame. It waved at Leo on the other side of the phone.

Leo was stunned, then blurted out, "Wow, she's gorgeous."

Kenji sighed and stood up from the sofa, giving Vulpix a helpless look. Vulpix stuck out its small tongue, having caused enough mischief, and sat back down to watch the drama.

"Kenji, what's your classmate's name? She looks so familiar," Leo said casually.

Kenji's mouth twitched. Of course, she looks familiar. Vulpix was impersonating a female celebrity.

But it wasn't a major star, and Leo didn't follow the entertainment industry much. Kenji quickly changed the subject, steering the conversation away from Vulpix.

Leo's university was an average one. His dorm certainly didn't have the "one large villa per person" luxury of Metropolis Academy. They were mostly four-person rooms. From the background, Leo was probably talking to him from the balcony.

The two hadn't talked on the phone in a long time and chatted for half an hour before hanging up.

The next day, Kenji was training his Pokémon when the doorbell rang.

Kenji opened the door. Standing there was a middle-aged man wearing a baseball cap with a logo that looked suspiciously like a Pidgeot.

"Sir, Hello. Mach Speed Express at your service."

Kenji understood. He went inside and brought out the two Pokémon eggs he had prepared.

The middle-aged man accepted them with a smile. After filling out the recipient's and address information, he mounted the Pidgeot waiting by the roadside and flew off.

Using a Pidgeot to deliver packages was fast, but it was also incredibly expensive.

But Kenji no longer had to worry about a small courier fee.

Closing the door, Kenji looked at Vulpix, who was sitting on the sofa watching TV. "My dear, don't forget you're a Pokémon. Let's get some training in."

To prevent any confusion, Kenji had already forbidden Vulpix from impersonating celebrities. Instead, he found a small social media influencer with only a few hundred followers and told Vulpix to use her likeness.

Vulpix, however, was clearly unbothered by Kenji's urging. After half an hour of squabbling, Kenji finally signed a truce: train for half the day, rest for half the day.

Looking at Vulpix on the sofa, Kenji couldn't help but sigh.

The contrast was striking. Arbok, by comparison, was a perfect angel.

At least Arbok would train quietly after a little persuasion. Vulpix was proving to be a handful.

Before long, a knock sounded at the door again.

Kenji opened it and found Director He standing outside.

"Director He? What brings you here?
