Chapter 64: Prismatic Hex Core! Spoils of War!

Kenji's eyes lit up. Just as he'd expected, the other system functions had unlocked the method for obtaining the Secondary Hero Replicator.

One Secondary Hero Replicator cost 5,000 Gold. To get Larvitar to 4-Stars, he would need twenty-six of them. That was 130,000 Gold.

This was... a lot, but also not a lot.

It was a lot, but it wasn't even enough to buy a single [Hero Replicator].

But it was also a little, considering that at the Professional-level battle rate, Kenji would need to defeat 13,000 Pokémon.

Even at the Elite-level, that was 1,300 battles.

This gave Kenji a headache. It seemed he could forget about getting Larvitar to 4-Stars anytime soon.

He continued to scroll down, discovering [Equipment Removers] and [Reforgers].

There were even [Ornn's Artifacts] and [Radiant Equipment].

But the prices for those were... less than beautiful. They were far beyond what Kenji could currently afford.

After getting a basic understanding of the new system functions, Kenji took a deep breath and focused his full attention on the reward he'd received: the Prismatic Hex Core draw.

His last Prismatic Hex Core was [Level Up!].

It had elevated Beedrill's future to an unpredictable, unfathomable height.

Kenji was certain, at the very least, that his Beedrill's future achievements would rival those of Legendary Pokémon.

So, what kind of boost would this Prismatic Hex Core provide?

Kenji took another deep breath and silently chose to use the draw.

The world was quiet, save for the unique sound of the system drawing the Hex Core.

"Ding! Drawing Prismatic Hex Core..."

"Drawing..."

"Ding!!! Congratulations, Host! You have received the Prismatic Hex Core: Spoils of War!!!"

[Prismatic Hex Core: Spoils of War]

[Effect: After combat, there is a high probability of receiving bounteous rewards. The quality of the rewards scales with the strength of the combatants.]

Seeing this, Kenji was overjoyed.

He had loved this Hex Core back when he played the game in his past life. When it was first released, it was incredibly strong, basically a must-pick. Of course, it was later nerfed into the ground.

However, if Kenji remembered correctly, in the late game, [Spoils of War] could drop a "Neeko"—which was to say, a Hero Replicator.

Just as Kenji was reminiscing about what [Spoils of War] could drop, the campus shuttle came to a stop.

He closed the system panel and got off.

Back in his villa, Kenji lay on the sofa, his eyes unfocused, thinking.

All of these newly unlocked functions, including the new Prismatic Hex Core, seemed to be encouraging him to battle and participate in competitions.

This aligned perfectly with his own dream of becoming the strongest Pokémon Master.

But if that was the case, Kenji would need to end his leisurely life at this top-tier academy much earlier than planned.

The problem was, apart from Beedrill and Gyarados, none of his other Pokémon were battle-ready.

He couldn't even put together a proper 3v3 team.

This was a major headache.

He couldn't possibly expect to enter the 6v6 National League Championship and have Beedrill and Gyarados carry four dead weights.

In one year, he wasn't sure if Beedrill could reach the Champion-level, but getting to the Elite Four-level should be no problem.

Gyarados was a bit behind. Although its potential wasn't as high as Beedrill's, it was still S+. With a year of hard work, it should be able to reach the Gym Leader-level.

As for Ekans, Kenji planned to get it to 4-Stars as quickly as possible, preferably within the next few days.

And Larvitar... Kenji had no idea if he could raise it into a Tyranitar before the National League Championship. He could only do his best.

Metropolis was a municipality, so it only had one Gym: the Metropolis Gym.

Of course, its prestige was fully equivalent to that of a Provincial-level Gym.

Since he had to start collecting badges anyway, he might as well start with the Metropolis Gym.

He went online and searched for information on the Metropolis Gym. The Gym Leader's name was Tyson Tang, and he specialized in Poison-type Pokémon.

Just as Kenji was looking up battle videos of Tyson Tang, he suddenly got a message from Goro.

As the saying goes, "when fellow townsmen meet, their eyes brim with tears." After surviving the orientation together, Kenji and Goro had become much more familiar, enough to be called friends, and they had naturally added each other.

"Kenji, did you see the forum? Our year's Exchange Tournament is starting in a few days. Are you joining?"

Kenji blinked, suddenly remembering. He had seen this so-called Exchange Tournament mentioned on the forums when he was first researching Metropolis Academy.

This tournament wasn't an official school-sponsored event.

It was a competition organized spontaneously by the students themselves.

Every trainer who made it into Metropolis Academy was a top-tier talent from across the nation, possessing the best resources. They were either the future heirs to City-level Gyms or the fresh blood of high-level League families.

With a group of geniuses like this, it was only natural that every single one of them was proud. And so, the Exchange Tournament was born.

At first, it was just a small-scale, bet-like battle between a few Metropolis Academy students.

Gradually, it spread. The scale of the tournament grew larger and larger, until it eventually evolved into an annual, self-run competition for the new students in the Trainer Program.

The rules were simple: 3v3, single elimination. The entry fee was 500,000 Pokédollars.

And in the end, all the money from the buy-ins was given to the first-place winner as the grand prize.

At this thought, Kenji's eyes lit up.

500,000 Pokédollars per person. If ten people joined, that was 5,000,000. If a hundred people joined... that was 50,000,000!!

He was just stressing about money, and now a solution had fallen right into his lap.

What? What if he couldn't take first place?

Sorry, you'll have to take that up with his level 54, Huge Power, 675-base-stat Beedrill.

If someone could actually beat his Beedrill, Kenji would gladly and humbly forfeit the 500,000.

In any case, the competition was in three days. There was plenty of time. Kenji wasn't in a hurry to sign up.
