Chapter 2 - walking up in an empty room is totally no suspicious

There are times when a person wonders all the regret of there lives.

if only I had done something differently, maybe I'd be somewhere else right now. If only I'd taken that opportunity… gone there… said that… or asked her out.

or chosen the male character inset of the female one.

Those were the kinds of thoughts running through Akir's mind or rather, Ykri's mind as she stared at her reflection in the mirror of the strange room. There was nothing inside except a single white desk, a white book, and the white mirror before her. Everything the walls, the floor, even the air some how felt blindingly white. White upon white upon. There wasn't a single hint of colour anywhere in this place… except for her.

"What the… fuck?" Ykri muttered, her red eyes widening as she took in the sight before her. The figure of a young girl with two cat-like ears poking out from her head. Her hair was pure white, the same shade as her pale skin. She wore a black dress beneath a white lab coat, and a pair of oval glasses rested on her face, doing their best to hide the unnatural glow in her crimson eyes.

The longer she stared, the more confused and disbelieving her expression became like she was stuck in a dream. But this wasn't a dream. This was her new reality.

After all, she'd already tried hurting herself the moment she first woke up in this strange laboratory like room and it hurt way too much to be a dream.

Yeah… probably not the best idea to slam your head straight into a wall with enough force to break it. But hey, it's not like I ever claimed to be the sharpest needle in the shed, did I?

Anyway, it seems I've become the very creature I created in the SCP game, Ykri thought as she walked toward the desk. Without hesitation, she sat on it and picked up the book lying in front of her.

After all, if this thing turned out to be some kind of death trap, she'd almost welcome it. As a former man, she was already trying to figure out how to turn herself back to normal though, honestly, she had no idea where to even start.

So, naturally, she had to start with the most obvious and suspicious thing in the room the book.

I mean, why else would there be a book here when there's literally nothing else? It was practically begging to be opened and read.

So she did exactly that opening it. But the moment she was about to begin to read the first letter of the test, the book vanished right out of her hands.

"Wha—?!" Ykri yelped, jumping back in shock like—well, like a startled cat.

"Skii!"

Before she could even process what happened, a black screen flickered into existence in front of her eyes. Lines of glowing white text appeared one after another.

Ykri blinked. "Wait, wait, wait—what do you mean 'termination'? What kind of tutorial skips the consent screen!?"

"Wait—didn't I even get a chance to consent to all of this?!" Ykri shouted, her voice trembling with panic. "Oh God, why are you so cruel? I know you like to send your toughest challenges to your strongest soldiers but let me make this very clear—" she jabbed a finger toward the empty white ceiling, "—I am not one of your strongest soldiers! I'm a lazy bum who's never done a single worthwhile thing in my entire life!"

Her words echoed through the empty white room, trembling with genuine worry. After all, who in their right mind would want to be thrown into another world, turned into a girl, and forced to fight horrors beyond human imagination?

But the screen didn't do anything it just remained still, like a stone.

"Ahh…" Ykri let out a long, exasperated breath, then sat back down and stared at the screen, trying to make sense of all the functions available to her. One thing had become clear: this system was not sentient.

That was both a good and a bad thing. Good, because nothing was watching her brain 24/7. Bad, because she couldn't negotiate mission rewards.

The system was divided into three parts: Item Storage, Status, and Mission. The first two were simple enough; the last one, well… you could probably guess. Just like in the game, she had to complete all the missions one by one until everything was done.

Glancing at the first mission, Ykri felt her stomach drop. It wasn't good. Not good at all.

There were actually two active missions already assigned, without her even accepting them.

The first one was called: [Make Foundation Great Again]

Description: You must make the foundation of this world as competent as in another world.

Mission Status: Active

Duration: Until the Council is satisfied

Rewards: @#!--Y*&T%

Failure: The Foundation will be angry with you.

Ykri blinked at the text. "Well… that sounds like a nightmare," she muttered, rubbing her temples.

Like, what did they expect her to do run this entire operation by herself? Yeah, right. As if she could even pull that off.

"Well, whatever," Ykri sighed. "That sounds like a long-term project anyway."

There wasn't even a time limit listed, so it couldn't be that urgent, right?Still, what the hell was up with that reward?

that really annoyed her.

"At least tell me what the reward is, damn it! How am I supposed to feel motivated without a goal?!" she grumbled. "Even a cat needs a mouse to chase."

Huffing in annoyance, Ykri moved her gaze to the next mission on the list.

Mission: [People Die When They Are Killed]

Mission Status: ActiveDescription: Don't die. Don't get killed. Don't get obliterated. Don't get mind break. don't get lobotomized.

Duration: Until the O5 Council decides when you're allowed to die.Reward: One gacha pull every week as long as you keep breathing.Failure: Death.

Ykri blinked. "…Okay, you know what? I can technically do this one," she muttered, crossing her arms. "All I have to do is not die. Sounds simple enough."

She paused.

"…And that's exactly the kind of thinking that gets extra killed."

Huff.

The gacha was interesting, sure but she knew her luck. And her luck was always bad. Always I mean always.

Whenever she tried anything that involved luck, it seemed like the universe made sure she lost. Cheating on an exam? Teacher always found out. Pulling for a rare character in a game? She'd get the completely useless one. On and on.

So, yeah… this gacha was basically useless to her.

With a heavy sigh, Ykri turned her attention back to the first mission she could actually choose.
