Chapter 3 - Beastodon vs Triospinosaurus

In the world of Heaters, creatures are grouped into four primary categories: Mystic Beasts, Mega Faunas, Great Normals, and Kaijus.

Mystic Beasts are the most powerful monsters, each possessing unique mana and special abilities. This category includes legendary creatures such as dragons, wyverns, and alicorns.

Next are the Mega Fauna. Though second to Mystic Beasts in strength, they are often massive in size. Unlike their mystical counterparts, they lack unique mana or abilities but are highly skilled at manipulating the natural energies around them, making them formidable even against Mystic Beasts.

Great Normals represent the common creatures found almost everywhere. While the weakest of the four, they can still tap into the mana in their environment and should not be underestimated.

Kaijus, often referred to as Titans, are distinctly different. They are not products of nature but synthetic creations of ancient humans, who later transformed into various races under a curse. Kaijus possess powers comparable to both Mystic Beasts and Mega Faunas.

All four categories are further divided into eight classes, ranked from one to eight: Class One being the most powerful and Class Eight the weakest.

Mega Fauna Classes (weakest to strongest): Minor, Tusked, Cragborn, Colossus, Rampant, Titan, Sovereign, Ascendant.

Mystic Beast Classes (weakest to strongest): Awoken, Veiled, Wyrd, Anointed, Mythic, Elder, Celestial, Archetype.

Across all categories and classes, evolution has been documented, monsters can ascend from one class or even one category to another. Such was the case with the Beastodon.

Once a Mega Fauna, it had evolved into a Mystic Beast. Now it could not only bend natural mana to its will but also wield unique abilities powered by its own mana.

Dark spheres of energy surrounded the Beastodon, firing off like cannon blasts. From its claws, shadowy energy slashed outward.

The Triospinosaurus countered by converging surrounding mana along its flank, forming a solid shield to absorb the Beastodon's offense.

The Beastodon dove into the shadows and reappeared midair, swinging its arms to release arrays of claw-shaped energy projections. The Triospinosaurus retaliated with blue mana spheres, hurling them at the beast.

Teleporting again, the Beastodon reappeared at the giant's neck, firing a blast of dark energy that made the reptile roar in pain. In another blink, it was at the heels, striking relentlessly.

Its attacks became faster, more erratic, and completely unpredictable. The Triospinosaurus struggled to keep up, its massive body weighed down by blind spots. Even its thick scales began to falter, blood flowing as fragments of armor fell away.

Soon, exhaustion overwhelmed it. The giant collapsed with a thunderous crash, water and debris exploding skyward.

"Unlike me, the Triospinosaurus forced it to go all out…" Raven muttered. The battle made him realize how weak he truly was. The Beastodon had only been toying with him earlier, chasing him through shadows. His lips curled grimly.

The Beastodon emerged from the shadows, staring at its fallen opponent with glowing red eyes. It grunted and turned to leave. But the Triospinosaurus was not finished yet.

Above it, a massive sphere of condensed mana formed before launching in a devastating blast.

The Beastodon conjured a mana shield to block the strike. The impact forced it skidding across the ground, trees and boulders obliterated in the blast's wake.

The attack ended, and the Beastodon roared, preparing to retaliate, only to realize too late that the blast had been a distraction. The Triospinosaurus swung its scythe-like claws in a lightning-fast strike.

Even with its reflexes, the Beastodon couldn't fully avoid it. The claws slashed deep across its torso, nearly severing its hind leg.

The beast roared in agony, staggering as blood poured out in torrents. Still, it refused to fall. Gathering its remaining strength, it conjured massive black spheres of condensed energy and fired them like cannons.

But the Triospinosaurus was ready. Blue spheres of mana met the assault head-on. Their collision erupted into a blinding light, deafening shockwaves, and cratered the battlefield.

Within five minutes, the river was reshaped into a lake. The Triospinosaurus grunted, retreating into the water to heal its wounds. The Beastodon, limping and bleeding, dragged itself into the shadows, searching for shelter.

That's when it noticed him, Raven, standing not far away.

"Even the Triospinosaurus saw the flaw in your ability." Raven's voice was cold.

"Your shadow-teleporting trick has a five-second delay before you can use it again. And you're limited to about fifty feet."

His smirk widened.

"I should thank that beast for weakening you. Now I can finish this."

Infusing his wooden sword with mana, Raven launched forward at supernormal speed. He aimed straight for the gashes carved by the Triospinosaurus.

The Beastodon tried to move, but it was too slow. Raven struck with all his strength, driving the blade deep into its vital organs because the beast still had the potential to kill him, it's a Mystic Beast after all.

The beast roared, then gave a pained yelp before collapsing. Blood spread in a wide pool, its glowing red eyes dimming until, at last, it moved no more.

A familiar chime echoed in Raven's ears
