Chapter 3 - Dinner

Jenara arrived at her house, her mind was completely messed up because of Mr. Edward.

"You're home?" Jenara lifted her head, her stepsister was standing in the doorway.

"Sis, what's wrong?" Jenara asked in confusion.

"Hurry up and get dressed and help the maids cook a big meal. There's a dinner with the Salamos family tonight. Sister Zeline is being matched with the Salamos's sole heir, so don't disappoint them with a less-than-perfect meal," Ula said sarcastically.

Jenara sighed in exasperation, "Aren't there plenty of maids in the mansion, why should I help them, they can finish their own work, I'm busy preparing for the exam, so I can't help them."

Jenara was about to enter but Ula pushed her shoulder hard, "You dare to contradict me? Do what I say or I will report you to papa."

"Just complain. Who's afraid? Do you think you own this mansion? You're just staying in my house. Act like guests. You're not my father's daughter, nor are you my sister. Don't act like one," Jenara angrily scolded her stepsister.

Ula smiled mischievously when she heard that, "How dare you talk to me like that."

Ula immediately threw a hard slap at Jenara.

"That's the payback for people who can't speak well," Ula said with emphasis.

Ula saw her father's car entering the mansion courtyard and immediately pretended to fall on the floor.

Jenara squealed as she turned her face to the side, fed up with the drama Ula was creating.

"Ula, what's wrong with you, darling?" Atmis asked as soon as he saw Ula slumped on the floor.

"Ula darling, what happened to you?" Wendi dramatically helped her daughter up.

"I just told Jenara to help the maid who was a little overwhelmed because of the big cooking, but Jenara pushed me and said that I didn't deserve to stay here, let alone order her around," Ula argued with her clever tongue.

Jenara was stunned, Weli and Ula were also surprised by this.

How could Atmis slap his own daughter and believe Ula's story so much?

"You're really too much, how could you talk to your older sister like that? She's your older sister, she's your sister, why would you say something like that? She only asked you to help the maids, is there something wrong with that?" Atmis asked angrily.

Jenara stroked his cheek with glassy eyes.

"I was just saying, why me? Aren't there plenty of maids in the mansion? Jenara has her own things to do, Dad. Jenara has to study for exams. If you can do it, why me? Besides, you're not doing anything," Jenara argued, defending herself.

Atmis was about to slap him again but Weli stopped him.

"Come on, bro, don't hurt Jenara. Just let her be. She's a child after all," Weli said, acting like a kind and fair mother to her children.

"Be grateful that you have a stepmother as good as Weli, who knows what would have happened if I had married someone other than Weli, you might have been finished off by her," Jenara gripped her skirt tightly.

Before entering the mansion, Atmis took the time to speak to Jenara again, "After this, help the maids with the preparations for tonight. And tonight, don't show yourself at the Salamos family dinner. I'm ashamed to have a rebellious daughter like you."

Jenara held back her tears as best she could when she heard her father's words, why did it feel so suffocating and painful.

Atmis immediately entered the mansion, making Weli breathe a sigh of relief.

"Oh, I'm sorry, your father slapped you because of my daughter," Weli said dramatically.

Ula, who heard that, just giggled, "Oh, sorry, I was just trying to create drama, but I didn't know Papa was really angry with you. Sorry, so you're the one who got slapped."

Jenara gripped her skirt tightly and glared at them.

Ula was shocked when Jenara slapped her mother.

"You think you're the only one who can create drama? I can too. Don't think you're just a homewrecker here and you have power. I'll do anything to take what's mine. Don't think I'm afraid because of you, I can also turn things around to my will," Jenara said boldly.

Ula, who saw Jenara's courage, immediately waved her hand.

Lack

Jenara roughly pushed Ula until her back hit the door.

"You fell before I pushed you, right? This is your revenge for Papa's slap earlier," said Jenara bravely, where she immediately passed by, deliberately stepping on Ula's foot.

"Ouch, it hurts, mama," Ula groaned in pain because Jenara's shoes stepped on her.

Weli immediately helped Ula to stand up while narrowing his eyes sharply at Jenara.

"Just watch out, tomorrow or later, I will make you cry and starve," Weli muttered vengefully.

The night has arrived, the maid and Jenara are busy preparing dinner and some deserts for the Salamos family.

"Pa, they're coming," said Zeline, making Atmis and Weli immediately walk forward.

But before that, Atmis looked at Jenara, "Quickly go into your room and don't come out before they come home."

Jenara immediately took off her apron and went upstairs at will.

Ula and Zeline who saw this just smiled triumphantly, they then walked forward to greet the Salamos family.

"They really went to the extreme, made Miss Jenara cook all day and told her to stay in the room," muttered the maid who felt sorry for Jenara.

"That maid is really being too harsh. We have to teach her a lesson tomorrow," suggested the other maid, drawing nods of agreement from the others.

Dinner took place, where they were busy talking about Zeline and Edward's introduction.

Edward, who felt bored and fed up, just kept quiet and didn't join in the conversation with his father and Atmis.

"Open your mouth and say something, don't just keep quiet and turn right and left," said Yala who was furious with her son's attitude.

"What are you talking about? Hasn't Papa already said enough?" Yala immediately pinched her son's waist in annoyance.

"Having a son like you really makes my blood pressure rise," Yala said resignedly.

Edward could only rub his waist in pain.

"So what do you two think, do you want to exchange rings first or get married right away?" Salamos asked his son and Zeline.

Edward took a deep breath and said, "I'm not ready to get married yet, so if Mr. Atmis doesn't mind, I'd like us to exchange rings first. Didn't Zeline just finish her undergraduate degree? Surely she still needs to do some of the activities and work she wants, right, Zeline?" Edward asked Zeline.

Zeline nodded firmly where the blush on her cheeks made Edward feel both amused and disgusted.

Yala, hearing her son's answer, clenched her jaw tightly as she muttered, "The moment you speak, you'll ruin everything. If you knew you'd have kept quiet and let Mom answer."

Edward bit his lip to hold back a smile when he heard what his mother had just said.

"I'm going to the back for a moment," said Edward, who immediately got up from his chair and went to the back.

When he came out of the bathroom, suddenly someone bumped into him, making Edward surprised.

"Father!"
