Chapter 90: A Helpless Truth

Caidie's sister didn't linger long. After giving a few parting words, the projection from the golden token slowly faded. Before disappearing, she seemed to notice Yao Yan standing at the door and gave him a warning glance before her figure fully dissipated, leaving behind the golden token resting quietly atop the bed.

Caidie quickly grabbed the token and couldn't help but glance toward the doorway—only to lock eyes with Yao Yan, who had just walked in.

Yao Yan looked at her with a calm, smiling expression, as if nothing had happened earlier. The thickness of his skin was nothing short of terrifying.

Caidie quickly looked away, her face burning, and pulled the covers up over her head again, pretending to be an ostrich. Just thinking about what had happened moments ago made her entire face flush red. She didn't know how to face Yao Yan, let alone what to say.

Where had her composure gone? That calm confidence she showed in front of her sister had vanished. Now she was just a shy, flustered little girl.

This made Yao Yan feel somewhat amused. In his previous life, things were the same—after a couple first became intimate, the man was often more lustful, while the woman would turn shy, always on the retreat… at least until she got used to it.

Then it was the man who would start to feel the pressure.

Truly, shy girls are the cutest… Yao Yan's smile deepened as he thought of a saying: A blush from a girl speaks louder than a thousand words.

Very true indeed.

He walked slowly to the bedside and patted the "ostrich" lightly. "Don't hide, it's not like I haven't seen it already."

Caidie squirmed under the blanket but didn't reply.

"Your tail's still sticking out, you know."

Yao Yan chuckled as he reached out and touched her slender snake tail.

Caidie tried to pull her tail back under the covers but realized it was already in Yao Yan's grip. She had no choice but to poke her head out, cheeks puffed in protest. "Young Master, let go! Men and women shouldn't touch like this—especially a girl's tail!"

She tried to glare at him, but was surprised to find Yao Yan staring at her with an equally stunned expression.

"Did your sister teach you that?!"

Yao Yan was amazed. That the mighty Queen Medusa would teach such conservative values? Who would've guessed! She looked like a seductive enchantress, but deep down, she was a traditionalist. Then again, in the original story, after she lost her purity and became pregnant, she stayed loyal to Xiao Yan for life—even guarding his home for six years.

To be honest, women like that only existed in his parents' generation back in his previous world…

"No, I thought of it myself. You tricked me last time. From now on, we must keep a proper distance!"

Caidie spoke with a serious tone while still wrapped in her blanket. She genuinely trusted her sister's advice—especially the part about "what's easily gained is never cherished." It made perfect sense. She couldn't keep giving herself away so easily.

Yao Yan looked at her solemn expression and laughed. "You just believe whatever your sister says? Don't you have your own judgment?"

"My sister would never harm me. And besides… I really can't resist you. In matters of the heart, I've always been under your control… You're a bad man!"

She pouted, reluctantly admitting the truth.

Yao Yan shamelessly acknowledged it, then grinned. "That's right, I am a bad man. So… do you like me?"

Caidie widened her eyes, clearly not expecting him to ask that so directly. She wanted to say "no," but the words caught in her throat. Yet saying "yes" felt too embarrassing. Like her sister said—it felt like she was constantly giving in, always the one chasing.

She bit her lip, refusing to say those two words.

"You're cuter than your sister~"

Yao Yan laughed and pinched her soft, fair cheek.

Though the sisters looked nearly identical in appearance, their clothing and temperaments were completely different. Caidie was sweet and domestic, while her sister was the cold, commanding queen type—the kind that stirred a man's desire to conquer.

Caidie tried to wriggle away, but the bed was too small, and she was still wrapped in the blanket. She had nowhere to go and had no choice but to let Yao Yan have his way.

"Stop touching, it tickles!"

Caidie's voice trembled as she pleaded, watching Yao Yan play with her tail.

Yao Yan finally let go and smiled. "Come on, get dressed. We're heading to the Snake-People's territory soon. I'm looking forward to seeing your sister."

He didn't mean to tease her further—now that the mood was broken, it didn't feel right to keep pushing.

Yao Yan wasn't a beast—he wouldn't force things just for the sake of it.

"??"

Caidie blinked her bright eyes in confusion. Did he like her sister or not?

Yao Yan, of course, wouldn't answer that. He planned to fly to the Tagor Desert today. If they went full speed, they should reach the Snake-People's territory by early the next morning—just in time to meet the Queen Medusa of the original story.

In the Snake-People palace—

Queen Medusa slowly opened her eyes. Her cold, gorgeous face carried a rare hint of frustration. She'd never felt like this before. A part of her wanted to kill Yao Yan just to never experience that unbearable heat again. But her sister liked him, and he was undeniably outstanding. She couldn't find a reason to stop it.

Even putting aside race, just thinking of her sister's happiness—she had no right to interfere.

Still, the thought of Yao Yan and her sister doing "that" again, and her being able to feel all of it… made her temples ache. She massaged her brow helplessly. For now, all she could do was take things one step at a time. Maybe one day she'd find a way to sever the bond between them.

Then again, perhaps Yao Yan, being an alchemist, might know a method. But how would she even bring that up…

"Your Majesty, the Four Elders are still waiting in the main hall. Should I dismiss them?"

A soft female voice came from outside. It was Hua She'er, Queen Medusa's trusted aide—gentle and beautiful, with cascading red-gold curls and light armor that added to her dignified presence.

Interrupted, Queen Medusa slowly rose, pushing those thoughts aside for now. She swayed her alluring waist and walked out of the room. "No need. The matter isn't settled yet."

Even if Yao Yan secured that piece of land, they still had to fight. If they didn't make the Jia Ma Empire bleed, how would they ever learn to respect the Snake-People?

Rather than accepting handouts from others, it was better to take what they wanted with their own hands.

And on this point, Queen Medusa understood far better than Yao Yan.
