Chapter 17 - RISING BEYOND BORDERS

The early morning sun spilled golden light through the curtains as Destiny sipped her coffee, glancing at her laptop screen with anticipation. Today was the day she would receive feedback from an international publisher who had expressed interest in her novel. This could be her first major writing opportunity abroad a dream come true, but also a source of anxiety.

Ethan noticed her tense expression and came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders. "Morning, love. Big day, huh?" he asked softly.

Destiny leaned into him, exhaling slowly. "Yes… it's exciting, but I can't help feeling nervous. What if they don't like my story?"

Ethan turned her to face him, taking her hands in his. "Destiny, you've worked so hard. Every word you've written, every late night, every sleepless morning with Hope it's all led you here. They're going to see your talent. I believe in you."

Her ex-mother-in-law peeked around the corner, holding a tray with warm bread and tea. "We all believe in you, Destiny. You've grown so much, and Hope is proof of the love and dedication that surrounds you."

Her ex-father-in-law nodded, lifting Hope, who cooed happily. "We've watched you pour your heart into your work. Now it's time for the world to see it too."

Destiny felt a lump in her throat. With Ethan's reassurance and her ex-in-laws' unwavering support, the nerves she had felt all morning slowly transformed into determination.

She opened her email, fingers trembling slightly, and clicked on the message from the international publisher. Her eyes widened as she read the first few lines: "We were captivated by your story, Destiny. We would like to offer you an opportunity to publish with us and assist with the marketing and distribution of your novel internationally. Details to follow…"

Tears pricked at her eyes. She looked up at Ethan, who was grinning broadly. "You did it! Destiny this is incredible!" he said, pulling her into a tight embrace.

"I can't believe it," she whispered. "This is… everything I've worked for."

Ethan held her at arm's length, looking into her eyes. "You deserve it. And I'll be with you every step of the way. This is your dream, but it's our dream too."

Her ex-mother-in-law came over, placing a gentle hand on Destiny's shoulder. "We'll help in any way we can. Whether it's caring for Hope while you travel, preparing meals for your busy days, or just being here to support you emotionally, we'll do it all."

Her ex-father-in-law smiled proudly. "You've built a strong foundation here, Destiny. This is just the beginning. We'll make sure you can focus on your writing and your career without worrying about home."

The weeks that followed were a whirlwind of preparation. Destiny revised her manuscript based on the publisher's suggestions, coordinated with editors overseas, and made plans for her first trip abroad to attend a writers' conference. Ethan was by her side throughout, helping with Hope's nighttime feedings and ensuring Destiny had rest whenever possible.

Some nights, Destiny would sit at her desk, feverishly typing away, while Ethan sang softly to Hope in the nursery. Other nights, he insisted she sleep while he handled everything rocking Hope, changing diapers, and even reading bedtime stories to her daughter. Her ex-in-laws alternated their visits, cooking meals, washing clothes, and providing both practical and emotional support.

One evening, as Destiny packed her suitcase for the trip, Ethan approached her, gently touching her arm. "Are you sure you're okay leaving Hope for a few days?" he asked.

Destiny hesitated, looking at her sleeping daughter, then at Ethan's concerned eyes. "I'll miss her terribly," she admitted. "But this is a chance for my career and I want Hope to know that her mommy is following her dreams."

Ethan nodded, smiling softly. "I'll take care of her. And I'll make sure your ex-in-laws don't let you worry about a single thing. You focus on your writing and your opportunity. Hope will be in the best hands possible."

The flight to the conference was long, and Destiny felt a mix of excitement and nerves. She clutched her notebook tightly, reviewing her speech for the panel discussion on online writing platforms. The thought of presenting her journey from writing at home with Hope in her arms to publishing internationally both thrilled and intimidated her.

Upon arrival, Destiny was greeted warmly by the conference organizers and fellow writers. The sessions were intense but invigorating. She absorbed every lecture, every tip on international publishing, and every conversation that could help her grow.

During breaks, Destiny would send brief messages to Ethan, updating him on her progress. "Just finished a panel discussion it went well! Hope the baby slept okay," she typed one afternoon.

Ethan's reply came quickly: "She slept like an angel. I miss you, but you're making us proud. Keep shining, Destiny."

Her ex-mother-in-law also checked in regularly, offering encouragement: "We're keeping Hope entertained and fed. Don't worry about a thing, dear. Focus on your conference. You're making your mark!"

Back at the hotel, after a long day of sessions, Destiny reflected on the journey that had brought her here. Just a year ago, she had been navigating the early days of motherhood, grieving her failed marriage, and trying to rebuild her life with Ethan and the unwavering support of her ex-in-laws. Now, she was on the cusp of an international career, proving to herself and the world that determination and passion could overcome any obstacle.

Her presentation the next morning was met with applause and admiration. Many attendees approached her afterward, praising her story, her resilience, and the authenticity of her writing. Destiny felt a surge of pride. This was her moment a culmination of years of hard work, sleepless nights, and unwavering belief in herself.

During a quiet dinner that evening, Destiny called Ethan. "I did it, Ethan. The panel went so well, and the publishers are even more interested now," she said, her voice brimming with excitement.

"I knew you could do it," he replied, smiling through the phone. "I wish I could be there to celebrate with you, but we'll have a proper celebration when you get home. Hope and I are so proud of you."

Her ex-mother-in-law chimed in via video call, holding Hope on her lap. "Look at her little face! She knows her mommy is amazing. We're all so proud of you, Destiny. Keep shining!"

Ethan laughed softly, watching Destiny's emotional reaction. "See? You're inspiring not just the world, but everyone here at home too."

Destiny felt tears prick her eyes. "I couldn't have done it without you, Ethan, and without the support of my ex-in-laws. They've been incredible."

Ethan's voice softened. "We're all a team, Destiny. That's what makes us strong. And this is only the beginning. Your dreams are growing, and we're growing with you."

The rest of the week passed in a blur of workshops, networking sessions, and late-night writing. Destiny returned home exhausted but exhilarated, greeted by Ethan and her ex-in-laws with hugs, laughter, and the warm presence of Hope.

Holding her daughter close, Destiny whispered, "Mommy did it, baby. Mommy did it for us." Hope cooed in response, as if acknowledging the triumph alongside her.

Ethan wrapped an arm around Destiny, kissing her temple gently. "And we did it together," he said. "We're building this life as a family, balancing dreams and love. And look how far we've come."

Her ex-in-laws smiled knowingly. "We told you, Destiny. Love, support, and hard work that's the recipe for success. You're living proof."

That night, as Destiny tucked Hope into bed, she reflected on how much her life had changed. The baby she once feared she would raise alone, the man who had promised to love and support her unconditionally, and the ex-in-laws who had become a second family they had all contributed to her journey.

Ethan held her close as they watched Hope sleep, whispering softly, "Your story is just beginning, Destiny. And we're all here to make sure you get the happy ending you deserve."

Destiny smiled, feeling a deep sense of fulfillment and hope. She knew that balancing motherhood, love, and her career would always be challenging, but with the right people around her, there was nothing she couldn't face.

And as she drifted off to sleep that night, Ethan holding Hope in his arms while Destiny rested, she knew that this chapter of her life filled with dreams, love, and family was only the start of something extraordinary.
