Chapter 8 - Between Poison and Paradise

Within seconds, Viktor was by my side. He arrived with tension. He pressed his hand on the affected part of my dress as though he's trying to shield me from every eye in the room.

"Who did this?" He asked in a low but dangerous tone. His head turned . "Which one of them is she?"

I caught his arm gently before he could charge out "it was an accident.Don't worry. "

"An accident that should be cautioned." He said in an almost flare.

"I'm fine, I promise, please let it go" I whispered through my trembling voice.

He let out a sharp exhale and pulled me closer. "Are you okay?"

"I just need rest. Take me home please."

He didn't argue and in a moment we were out of the hall. He shielded me through the cameras outside.

That night, I tossed restlessly on bed. My skin was burning at the spot where the drink spilled and my thoughts were unsettling. Flashes of the server's familiarity came back but I still found it difficult to pin whether or not I had seen her somewhere.

By morning,my fears turned into panic. The arm where the liquid poured was blotched with colourful marks and it was itching unbearably.

I showed Viktor the skin, "I don't know what this is..."

Viktor's eyes went cold . He wasted no second. He picked up his phone to make a phone call and grabbed a jacket.

"Get in the car." He commanded subtly.

We arrived at the clinic in no time. I watched the doctor frown as he examined. Then he said ,"this is no rash", It's a chemical contact. Whatever was in that drink you speak of had a toxic substance. Luckily, you only got it on your skin. If you has swallowed it---"

He stopped there and shook his head.

The unspoken words played in my head in a way it sent chills down my spine.Would someone want me dead?

Viktor tightened his hands over me."Is she going to be okay?"

"With treatment, yes but she needs to stay out of direct sunlight and she'll be fine."

We had barely left the clinic when Viktor began to bark orders into his phone. "I want every server from last night in my presence today. Drag them if you must. I don't care."

Within hours, servers arrived at the private guest area at the penthouse.

Viktor paced restlessly as I studied every face in the room but none matched the girl I had seen.

"Are these all of them?" I asked.

One of the organisers responded, "yes."

"You had better not be lying because I'll find her anyway." Viktor spoke in fury. He wheeled towards me and added, "let them hide her in the moon if they like, I promise I'll find her and she must pay."

I swallowed hard and watched them walk away one after the other.

Vikor moved closer and brushed a stray hair off my face ."Baby, you're not staying in this city another day. We're leaving for Miami immediately."

"Miami?" I blinked in excitement.

"Yes, somewhere you'd heal properly without any form of stress.

That was it. Miami it was.

I was about to have my first Jet trip.

The jet gleamed like something out of a movie. I had never sat in a private plane before. The luxury alone spun my world. Everything looked divine. From the plush cream seats to the golden accents and the champagne chilling in crystal flutes.

"You like ?" Viktor teased as he watched me grin and trail my fingers across the seats.

It feels like a luxurious daydream, I admired and settled into the softness slowly.

He poured me a glass of champagne and I watched the bubbles dancing line starlight.

Shortly, the Jet lifted and it felt like my troubles were lifted too. Viktor pulled me into his arms. For a few hours, I allowed myself to drown in the fantasy. Everything all made the trip worth it , the taste of the champagne, and the safety of his chest most especially.

We got to Miami and it was an absolute paradise. The ocean stretched in endless strides like sapphire. The sand beneath my toes was as soft as silk.

Viktor made sure every fun book was ticked. We went from Lavish brunches to yacht rides. We had candlelit dinner and a late night swim. Everything felt dreamy. I was just basking in the euphoria of my new Layla, wrapped in laughter and love.

For three days, life was perfect until one phone call happened.
