Chapter 21 - Tale

"Mr. Goku, we just received news from other Police officers that your friends have been found in Pinion City, not far from here. I'll take you there."

Black Widow came before Goku, bending down with a smile.

However, this time Goku did not agree, but shook his head:

"I need to find my Power Pole and Four-Star Dragon Ball first."

Since Aunt Gabrielle and the others were not in any danger, he would prioritize finding the Power Pole and Four-Star Dragon Ball before reuniting with them.

The Power Pole and Four-Star Dragon Ball were both things his deceased Grandpa left him, and he absolutely couldn't lose them.

"No problem, wait here for a bit, I'll go see if my colleagues have found them."

Seeing Goku's determined gaze, Black Widow didn't try to persuade him with excuses but turned and left the tent.

She believed that the pole and stone ball were probably Goku's toys from when he was in the laboratory.

It was a normal behavior for a little boy to be attached to his toys.

He was already pitiful enough as an experiment subject, and she was willing to waste some time to fulfill these requests from the little boy.

With S.H.I.E.L.D.'s satellites and the city's surveillance system, even if Wolverine and the others left Pinion, their location would quickly be pinpointed.

So there was no need to worry about not finding them if they arrived late.

Two minutes later, Black Widow walked into the tent with a set of boy's clothes and a stone ball:

"Mr. Goku, do you see if this is the stone ball you lost?"

During last night's search, because this stone ball was detected to have special energy fluctuations, it was collected by Agents as a useful clue.

So she found it as soon as she asked.

"Yes, that's it!"

Goku's figure flashed before Black Widow, he snatched the stone ball, and then happily jumped around with it in his arms.

Just like a normal child getting back a beloved item, he looked very innocent.

"So fast!"

Black Widow was surprised by the speed Goku had just displayed, and it took her a while to react, handing him the clothes:

"Quickly put on your clothes, we'll leave now."

It was a good thing she had been coaxing and humoring Goku all along, rather than subduing him by force and then interrogating him.

Otherwise, with the moving speed Goku had just shown, it would be truly difficult to catch up to him if they tried to subdue him by force.

Of course, it was also because Goku had previously displayed unusual strength, and she recalled the destructive power of the giant ape last night.

That's why she was so cautious.

Additionally, as a stealthy spy, she didn't like to use force to complete tasks unless absolutely necessary.

"And the Power Pole, has the Power Pole been found?"

After putting on the somewhat ill-fitting clothes and tucking the stone ball into his pocket, Goku remembered his Power Pole.

Black Widow shook her head:

"We haven't found the red pole you mentioned anywhere nearby. Perhaps it's with your friends.

I'll take you to meet them first.

If it's not there, we can always come back and look for it later."

Goku heard Black Widow say this, thought it made sense, and didn't dwell on it anymore.

So, Black Widow, with Goku and a small team of elite S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents, drove towards Pinion.

Two hours later, just as they were about to reach Pinion, Black Widow's phone suddenly rang. The caller ID was Director Nick Fury.

"Is the boy next to you?"

"Yes."

Black Widow glanced at Goku, who was leaning against the car window, curiously watching the scenery outside, and nodded.

"I'm adding a new task for you: find out the boy's origin."

"Isn't he an experiment subject from the Facility?"

A look of surprise appeared on Black Widow's face.

Nick Fury explained from the other end:

"John has already taken control of Dr. Rice's Facility. According to the intelligence he sent back, Dr. Rice has indeed been conducting mutant experiments.

But it was mainly about the cloning of Wolverine and the modification of Magneto.

That boy, the giant ape from last night, and the mutant experiments have no connection whatsoever..."

"So he's a newly born mutant, or perhaps not a mutant at all."

After hearing the intelligence provided by Nick Fury, Black Widow recalled Goku's words and realized he had never actually said he came from a laboratory.

"I suspect that boy might be related to the giant ape from last night. Be careful not to anger him, and question him cautiously."

Before hanging up, Nick Fury gave a very serious instruction.

Dr. Rice, with Wolverine's clones, Magneto's modified humans, and a large number of mercenaries, pursued Wolverine and the others.

But in the end, they were all wiped out.

And the location where they were wiped out was so close to where the giant ape appeared, making it hard not to draw connections.

Furthermore, the situations of Wolverine, Professor X, Caliban, Gabrielle, and Laura were all clear, making it impossible for them to be connected to the giant ape.

As for the suddenly appearing, powerful Goku, they had no intelligence on him whatsoever and couldn't find any information.

It was as if he had popped out of a rock.

So he was the most suspicious.

There were also some other details, such as Goku suddenly appearing in the morning from where the giant ape had vanished.

The giant ape was an enlarged gorilla, and Goku had a tail on his bottom, like a monkey.

"Goku... I'll still call you Goku, as that's more in line with your local customs. Can you tell me about yourself?"

After hanging up the phone, Black Widow didn't beat around the bush and directly questioned Goku.

Different personalities require different methods to extract information.

For a child as innocent and somewhat naive as Goku, trying to probe indirectly would only waste time.

Because he wouldn't understand the probing at all.

"About me?"

Goku pulled his head back from the window, a hint of confusion in his eyes.

Black Widow guided him:

"Like where you live, what family members you have, why you left home and came here, you can tell me all about your experiences over the years."

Goku immediately understood and then roughly recounted his situation:

"I was abandoned on Mount Paozu when I was little, and Grandpa found me and raised me, then taught me martial arts.

Later, Grandpa passed away, and I lived alone on the mountain, and then I met Bulma.

Bulma asked me to accompany her to collect the Dragon Balls... Just like that, I said goodbye to Master Roshi Grandpa and the others, and embarked on a new training journey, preparing for the next World Martial Arts Tournament."

He didn't mention the White space and the light door, because a subtle force seemed to prevent him, making him overlook these things.

"Are you sure you're not telling a story?"

After hearing Goku's experiences, Black Widow couldn't help but widen her eyes.

If it weren't for the fact that there was no trace of lying in Goku's eyes, she would truly think he was toying with her.

What Mount Paozu, West City, World Martial Arts Tournament, she had never even heard of them.

And collecting seven Dragon Balls to summon a Divine Dragon to grant any wish, wasn't that just a fairy tale to trick children?

She naturally didn't believe it at all...
