Ten days after arriving in town, I bumped into Demetrius one evening.
The air felt crisp, and while the late-summer heat still scorched during the day, the evenings brought sweet relief.
Strolling along the stream that curved through town was exactly what I needed to decompress.
The water babbled softly, and I observed ducks drifting past while kids splashed in the shallow areas.
On the river steps, people square danced to booming music, their laughter and conversations floating through the air.
All the sounds blended together, forming the town's most vibrant atmosphere.
Scarlet clouds stretched across the skyline, staining half the heavens red. The final beams of the dying sun struck the trees, scattering golden light everywhere.
Among the cheers of children playing in the water, I spotted Demetrius, dressed casually.
He had on a clean white shirt, pale blue jeans, and white sneakers.
