To a human, the room smelled of vanilla, expensive paper, and the lingering scent of Isella's floral perfume. To Elric, whose senses were currently sharpening into a lethal edge, the room was an assault. He could hear the frantic, tiny scratching of a mouse behind the wainscoting. He could see the dust motes dancing in the lamplight like falling stars. And Verona... Verona smelled like a siren's song.

He sat beside her, forcing his voice to remain steady, forcing the "Duke" to speak while the "Wolf" pacing inside him growled at the distraction.
