Chapter 43 - Chapter 43 : The Skeletal Susanoo

Half-kneeling, Shisui gasped for breath, clutching his sword with one trembling hand while the other pressed against his bleeding eyes.

Hot, thick drops of blood seeped between his fingers, trickling down his cheek, but he ignored it completely.

The pain was overwhelming, yet his will did not falter.

The towering green skeleton...formed from the power of his Mangekyō...loomed around him, an ethereal cage of bone with no anchor to the ground, yet it shielded him completely.

Danzō stared at it, transfixed.

His expression twisted with obsession as he whispered under his breath, almost reverently, "Susanoo… The divine power of the Uchiha's Mangekyō Sharingan. Madara Uchiha's ultimate weapon.

It vanished with his death… and now, after all these years, it appears again.

Even if it's only the lowest form, that aura.....it still shakes the soul."

If there was anyone who truly understood the Uchiha clan, it was the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama.

The saying was true.....your greatest enemy often knows you best.

The Senju and Uchiha clans had been at war for a thousand years, ever since the time of Indra and Asura.

Generation after generation, their hatred burned on.

And as Tobirama's disciple, Danzō had inherited more than his ideology.....he had inherited his knowledge.

Though Tobirama never personally taught him the Uchiha clan's secrets, Danzō had pored over his teacher's records after his death, uncovering fragments of the clan's deepest mysteries.

Among them was the truth of the Sharingan and the godlike power it could awaken.

Because he understood, he coveted.

Because he coveted, he became obsessed.

That obsession had long since twisted into madness.....and it was this madness that made Danzō yearn endlessly for the Uchiha's eyes.

But Shisui's condition was deteriorating rapidly.

The poison that had spread through his body was not something that could be cured by any medicine or jutsu.

It was not even a toxin in the traditional sense.....it was composed of nanoscopic venomous insects bred by Aburame Torune, the most talented member of the Aburame clan.

These microscopic parasites were invisible to the naked eye.

That was why Shisui hadn't even realized he'd been poisoned.

Danzō had ordered Torune to restrain rather than kill him, or else Shisui would have been dead already.

And since only Torune himself could control these poison insects, Danzō's boast that even Tsunade couldn't cure it was no exaggeration.

By now, the venom had reached Shisui's knees.

His body was beginning to feel heavy, his movements sluggish.

He knew that if he didn't act now, death was inevitable.

Looking at the green ribs surrounding him, Shisui gritted his teeth and focused his mind. The chakra within him roared in response.

Suddenly, two enormous skeletal arms burst from the ribcage, forming at his sides.

The bones creaked and stretched, shimmering with green light.

Danzō's eyes widened in alarm. The calmness he had maintained all this time vanished instantly.

His voice, usually so controlled, now rang with panic as he shouted, "Stop him! Don't let him move...now!"

Before Shimura Danzō could even react, Uchiha Shisui's skeletal Susanoo raised one massive bone hand and gently thrust it into the nearby stone wall.

The wall cracked open as though it were nothing more than tofu.

With a slight push from the skeletal hand, Shisui's body was lifted effortlessly off the ground.

The Susanoo moved with him, carrying him straight toward the exit tunnel.

The Root members, jolted into motion by Danzō's command, threw kunai, shuriken, and an array of other weapons at once....but all of them were effortlessly deflected by the skeletal Susanoo.

Sparks scattered across the stone walls, yet none came close to piercing its green glow.

Danzō's expression darkened.

He knew full well that as long as Shisui remained wrapped within that Susanoo, it was impossible to stop him.

Even if Danzō gave chase himself, he wouldn't be able to bring Shisui down.

Still, he waved his hand and ordered, "Go after him.

Then he followed at a steady pace from behind.

Deep down, he didn't expect much.

But if luck favored him.....if Shisui's Susanoo timed out before he escaped...then perhaps he might yet retrieve that priceless pair of eyes.

Shisui gritted his teeth, enduring the searing pain coursing through his body as he manipulated the skeletal arms to propel himself forward.
