Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Super Saiyan Transformation?

"Damn it!!!"

"Where are you?!"

"Damn you, Gran! If you've got guts, come out and fight me head-on!"

Prince Vegeta was roaring like a madman, frantically searching for any sign of Gran's presence.

Suddenly

A small hand pressed firmly against the back of his head.

"You abandoned me back then, didn't you? Now, enjoy my revenge."

Gran's voice was icy cold as he slammed Vegeta's head straight into the ground.

BOOM!!!

The earth that had been unscarred moments ago splintered and cracked under the sheer force of impact.

Vegeta's skull struck the surface, sending fractures spiderwebbing across the ground.

"AAAAHHHH!!!"

A scream tore from Vegeta's throat — raw, guttural pain echoing through the battlefield.

Gran sneered. "Didn't you say that among all Saiyans, only you could become a Super Saiyan? Better transform fast — or this will end badly for you."

He kept Vegeta's head pinned to the ground and began dragging him forward

CRASH! CRASH!

The surface was gouged open as if plowed by a divine hand, rocks flipping and scattering in his wake.

"Where's that Saiyan pride of yours, huh? The so-called prince of the most gifted race? Where's your power now?"

"AAAHHHH!!"

"With strength like this, you dare act superior? Pathetic!"

"AAAHHH!!!"

"You called me the shame of the Saiyan race—then get up and fight me!"

Gran's face was blank, his expression eerily calm as he dragged Vegeta for more than three hundred meters before hurling him skyward.

BOOM!!

Vegeta shot upward like a cannonball. Gran followed in an instant, blurring through the air.

He caught up, clenching his fists—then slammed them down onto Vegeta's back.

BOOM!!!

The impact sent Vegeta hurtling downward like a falling meteor. But Gran wasn't done.

He flashed below his target, delivering another brutal kick.

BOOM! BOOM!

"AAAHHH!!!"

"AAAHHH!!!"

Vegeta was nothing but a helpless projectile, battered back and forth like a ball in the sky.

Meanwhile, not far away

"Nappa, what do we do? Vegeta's completely outmatched!" Raditz shouted, his voice shaking.

Nappa crossed his arms, exhaling slowly. "So what? What's his life or death got to do with us?"

"What are you saying?! You'd just watch him get killed by Gran?!"

"And what else can we do, Raditz? Gran said it himself — his power level is one billion! You really think the two of us could take him on?"

Nappa spat to the side, his tone scornful. "When Vegeta abandoned Gran years ago, we told him it was a mistake. But what did he say? He warned that if we defended Gran again, he'd leave us behind on that doomed planet too."

He scoffed. "Let them settle their own grudge. I'm not stepping in—and I don't dare to. If you want to play hero, go ahead."

"Me…?" Raditz froze, trembling.

"What's wrong? Weren't you just saying we should help Vegeta? What's stopping you?" Nappa taunted.

Raditz's eyes grew cold. Then he spat on the ground too. "Help that cold-blooded bastard? I'd have to be insane."

Nappa: "..."

Watching the chaos unfold, Shin—the Supreme Kai—and his attendant Kibito were speechless.

They had been monitoring the battle from afar and couldn't help but exchange a look.

"Weren't they supposed to be comrades?" Kibito muttered. "Their friendship sank faster than a Namekian ship."

What they didn't know, however, was that early Saiyans—save for Bardock—were notorious for their cruelty and selfishness.

Comradeship meant nothing when personal gain was at stake. Even fathers and sons would turn against each other.

Gran's side.

Though he had unleashed a power level of one billion, he precisely controlled each strike so it wouldn't kill Vegeta outright.

He wanted this to last. He wanted Vegeta to feel every moment of despair.

"Didn't you say only you could become a Super Saiyan? Then hurry up and transform!" Gran mocked as he flew above him, twisting his small body midair.

With a fierce spin, he unleashed a 360-degree roundhouse kick

CRACK!

Vegeta's spine snapped audibly.

"AAAHHH!!!"

With that scream, Vegeta plummeted like a meteor, smashing into the ground and carving out a crater nearly ten meters deep.

He lay at the bottom, convulsing in agony, his body broken and trembling. His spine was shattered — he couldn't even stand.

The difference between six thousand and one billion was insurmountable.

This wasn't a battle — it was an execution.

Despair. Helplessness. Humiliation.

All of it twisted across Vegeta's pale, blood-streaked face.

The proud Saiyan prince — reduced to nothing.

Step. Step.

Gran descended into the crater, planting one foot atop Vegeta's head.

Finally, revenge.

And it felt glorious.

"Prince Vegeta," he said, grinning down. "Never thought you'd end up like this, did you?"

"Y-You bastard…" Vegeta rasped, his voice trembling. "If you've got any pride… then just kill me!"

"Kill you?" Gran tilted his head, smirking. "Not yet."

"...What?"

"I didn't come here just for revenge."

He crouched beside Vegeta, leaning close enough for his words to drip into his ear.

"I came to tell you something. The legend of the Super Saiyan… is real."

"What… what did you say?"

Vegeta's pupils shrank to pinpoints.

Among the Saiyan race, a legend had been passed down through the ages

Once every thousand years, a Super Saiyan would appear.

Gran had trained for only three years, yet his power had skyrocketed to unimaginable heights. Could he really already have become that legendary warrior?

Seeing the disbelief in Vegeta's eyes, Gran laughed loudly. "You don't think I'm already a Super Saiyan, do you?"

"Y-You're… not?"

"Of course not." Gran clenched his small fists, smirking. "This is just my base form."

Vegeta's eyes widened in sheer disbelief.

Gran's grin turned cold. "And now, I'll show you my true goal—to transform into a Super Saiyan right in front of you."

Beating Vegeta bloody wasn't the ultimate satisfaction.

Gran knew that deep down, Vegeta still clung to one final shred of pride—his dream of becoming the first Super Saiyan.

On Namek, Vegeta had once begged Dende to heal him from near-death, believing it would trigger the transformation.

He thought that power would make him the strongest in the universe—strong enough to defeat Frieza.

But that so-called "awakening" was nothing more than a recovery boost.

And later, when Goku became the first true Super Saiyan, Vegeta's pride shattered completely.

He couldn't bear it. So he fled into space, training in solitude until he became the second.

Now, Gran was about to crush that last spark of pride completely.

"Impossible!!!" Vegeta roared, trying in vain to push himself up.

His broken spine refused to obey, leaving him crawling in the dirt, face twisted with rage.

"Even if that legend is real, I'm the one destined to become a Super Saiyan! I am Prince Vegeta!!!"

Gran's eyes narrowed. "Still so arrogant… even now."

He lifted his foot and kicked Vegeta out of the crater.

"Fine then—watch closely. Watch as I destroy the last piece of your pride."

Gran floated upward, golden light beginning to flicker faintly around him.

Realm of the Gods.

At that same time, in the serene world of the Destroyers, Whis and Beerus sat by a lakeside, as usual, watching Gran's daily progress through a floating projection.

"Lord Beerus," Whis said, smiling lightly, "Gran has done it again. In half a year, he reached the first stage of Autonomous Movement; within a year, the second. He's still as terrifyingly gifted as ever."

"I can see that," Beerus muttered. "I'm not blind."

"Oh my~ I was only trying to make conversation. It's been awfully quiet around here lately," Whis chuckled.

"Quiet's good. You talking all the time is not," Beerus snapped, glaring at him.

But then

Beerus's eyes narrowed.

He noticed Gran on the projection, his aura surging wildly.

"Wait… his power, mind, and instinct have all peaked. Why isn't he returning to the God Realm?"

Whis didn't answer immediately.

"Whis. Why aren't you saying anything?" Beerus growled.

"You told me not to talk, Lord Beerus," Whis replied serenely. "I am simply obeying your orders."

Beerus's tail twitched. "I swear I'm going to hit you one of these days…"

Then suddenly

"Eh? He's confronting Vegeta?" Whis leaned forward, intrigued. "I remember that one. You humiliated his father once, didn't you?"

"So he's out for revenge, huh?" Beerus smirked. "Figures. But a candidate for God of Destruction picking on a mortal? How disgraceful."

Whis covered his mouth to hide a laugh. Beerus really couldn't resist throwing shade no matter what Gran did.

Then

Gran's voice echoed from the projection:

"I'll transform into a Super Saiyan right before your eyes!"

Both gods froze.

"Transform…?"

BOOM!

The word struck like thunder.

They instantly recalled the form once taken by the ancient Saiyan ancestor — Yamoshi.

"That transformation was a mistake!" Beerus shouted, his expression twisting with fury.

"If Gran repeats that error, it could destroy everything! Stop him at once!"

"Immediately!"

"Yes, Lord Beerus!"

In an instant, Whis grabbed him, and together they shot into the heavens—two streaks of divine light tearing through the void toward the mortal realm.
