Chapter 49 - Chapter 48

Currently available information:

Reaching the Elite level will add one entry slot.

Each time, a new entry will randomly appear and an existing one may randomly be upgraded.

The upgraded attribute level will never exceed gold.

When a Pokémon reaches the Champion level, another slot will be added, along with a new random entry.

The system will then upgrade the highest-level entry among the current ones, except for those already colored, by one rank.

This upgrade can even elevate an entry to a colored tier.

At the same time, the lowest color of any new random entry will not be lower than red.

At the Divine Realm level, two entry slots will be added, guaranteeing at least one gold or higher entry.

The system will also upgrade the strongest existing entry, and if it is already colored, the result may transcend even that limit.

Note: Pikachu's infinite reincarnation ability can cause a system bug, but it can only occur once per level.

The specific situation will be explained later.

Spark Flint (Red): Can only be equipped by Electric-type Pokémon. The user's body becomes light as a spark, greatly increasing agility. Speed is increased by 50%, and the attack speed of Electric-type moves used while moving increases by 100%.

Spark Flint was a term made perfectly for Electric-type moves.

Without hesitation, Ash chose to mount it on Pikachu.

He replaced the "Extremely Intelligent" entry immediately, not even hesitating for a second.

To be honest, that ability had always seemed a bit useless to him.

At best, it let Pikachu make smarter independent judgments. At worst, it just made Ash's commands redundant.

But if Pikachu had to decide everything in a battle on his own, wouldn't that mean Ash was failing as a Trainer?

So the so-called "Extremely Intelligent" entry was practically worthless.

It was better to replace it with something more practical.

Besides, after Pikachu's promotion to the Elite level, a new entry slot had appeared.

That meant a new entry would spawn randomly, and the quality of an existing entry might be upgraded.

Ash glanced at the system interface nervously.

He really hoped the upgrade wouldn't waste itself on one of the less useful purple entries.

If that happened, he'd be too heartbroken to speak.

Fortunately, the process was fast.

Within two seconds, the switch was done.

Pikachu immediately felt a powerful surge flowing through his body.

A sense of lightness spread across his limbs.

He felt faster—so fast that even air resistance seemed to lag behind him.

Though... his head did feel a little duller than before.

On the other side of the field, Lt. Surge was still frozen stiff, unable to process what had just happened.

His expression was blank, eyes wide open.

He simply couldn't accept the fact in front of him.

His Raichu, his ace Pokémon, had used Thunder—its strongest move—and not only failed to hurt Ash's Pikachu, but had been completely destroyed in a single counterattack.

This wasn't some low-level Pokémon.

His Raichu was an Elite Peak-level Pokémon!

To be defeated instantly by an Electric-type move… that should only be possible against a Gym-level opponent!

Wait.

That meant this Pikachu was Gym-level?!

What kind of monster brings a Gym-level Pikachu to bully normal challengers?!

And how did a Pikachu even reach that level without evolving?!

As Lt. Surge's thoughts spiraled, his composure shattered completely.

He finally understood the despair those rookie Trainers must have felt every time he crushed them mercilessly.

Who could have imagined that he, a proud Gym Leader, would one day experience the same humiliation?

After a long silence, he clenched his fists and looked up at Ash.

"…You win. I take back everything I said before. I was wrong to underestimate you—and your Pikachu. I'm sorry."

After saying this, Lt. Surge returned Raichu to its Poké Ball and bowed deeply to Ash.

Ash was slightly taken aback.

He had expected the man to get angry, or maybe even refuse to admit defeat.

But instead, Lt. Surge acknowledged his mistake openly.

Perhaps this was what separated a true veteran soldier from the arrogant rookies—he could accept defeat with dignity.

"This is your proof of victory," Lt. Surge said, handing over a small orange badge. "The Thunder Badge. You've earned it."

Ash accepted it, but then looked at Lt. Surge seriously.

"Gym Leader Lt. Surge," he said calmly, "I hope that after today, you'll understand the feelings of the Trainers you've defeated."

"Maybe you thought they were looking down on you by using weak Pokémon."

"But for them, those Pokémon are already their strongest partners."

"As a Gym Leader, your duty isn't to crush them completely—it's to guide them so they can improve."

"Your strength is real, but the way you've used it doesn't match the spirit of a Gym Leader."

Lt. Surge stood silent for a long time, lost in deep thought.

He wasn't a bad person—Ash could tell.

He had simply carried the mindset of a soldier into his role as a Gym Leader.

In his eyes, every challenge was like a battle.

If a challenger sent out a weak Pokémon, it felt like an insult to his honor.

That's why he always struck back ruthlessly, leaving those Trainers' Pokémon battered and broken.

But now, hearing Ash's words, something in him finally clicked.

This wasn't war anymore.

He wasn't a soldier on a battlefield.

His role now was to teach—to guide young Trainers to grow stronger, not to crush their spirits forever.

Realizing this, Lt. Surge bowed once more, deeply and sincerely.

"Thank you, Ash. If not for your words, I might have kept walking down the wrong path."

The two staff members watching nearby were stunned.

They had never seen their tough, brash Gym Leader bow to anyone before.

But after being so thoroughly defeated by Pikachu, who wouldn't be convinced?

Honestly, it would have been strange if he wasn't traumatized.

"Pika Pika~~"

Seeing Lt. Surge's genuine apology, Pikachu crossed his little arms and nodded with satisfaction.

He looked like a wise teacher forgiving a repentant student.

"I originally wanted to get along with you as a fellow Pikachu," Pikachu thought proudly, "but you looked down on me first. In that case…"

He smirked inwardly.

"…I won't hide anymore. Let's be honest—I am the God of Thunder."

The atmosphere in the Gym had softened completely.

Lt. Surge smiled faintly and shook Ash's hand.

Misty and Serena came up to congratulate Ash, their eyes shining with pride.

Though everyone knew the outcome had been decided the moment Pikachu stepped into the arena, it didn't make the victory any less satisfying.

Lt. Surge, still curious, finally asked, "Ash, how on earth did you raise a Pikachu that strong? And why hasn't it evolved yet? Wouldn't a Raichu be even stronger?"

Ash shook his head lightly and smiled.

"Evolution isn't everything. It might make most Pokémon stronger, but there are exceptions. Some become even more powerful by staying as they are."

He looked at Pikachu with quiet confidence.

"My Pikachu doesn't need to evolve. Even as he is now, he can stand at the very top of the world."

And the top he spoke of—

Was not the Champion tier.

But something far greater—

A realm beyond the reach of humans.
