Chapter 5 - The origin of The superhero Vajra 2

Meanwhile, Sofia stood nervously in her father's arcade store, her heart pounding like the drums of an approaching army. She peered out from behind the ornate wooden counter, her eyes scanning the dimly lit room. Dust particles danced in the golden rays of sunlight that filtered through the small windows, casting long shadows across the arcade games furniture.

"I hope those guys don't show back up," Sofia whispered to herself, her voice barely audible over the creaking of the old floorboards beneath her feet. She glanced nervously at the cabinet behind her, where a gleaming pistol lay hidden, a last line of defense against the impending danger.

Suddenly, the door to the store slammed open with a deafening crash, sending a shiver down Sofia's spine. In stepped a menacing figure, his silhouette framed by the harsh light of the outside world. He was tall and imposing, with reptilian features that glistened with a sickly sheen in the dim light of the store.

"Do you have the money?" Lizard mouth demanded, his voice dripping with malice. Sofia's heart raced as she shook her head, her eyes wide with fear. "No," she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper. "I told you guys, give me a week."

The figure's lips twisted into a cruel grin, revealing rows of sharp, pointed teeth that glinted ominously in the shadows. "Well, my friends and I had a little chat after the incident you put us through. We decided you don't have a week left," he hissed, his voice resembling the whisper of a serpent. "I'm taking you in now. Your little friend pissed me off yesterday."Top of Form

Sofia's breath caught in her throat as the figure's forked tongue flicked out, licking her face with a sickening slurp. She recoiled in disgust, her skin crawling at the touch of his slimy tongue. "You're a pretty little soul, perfect for my boss's ritual," he continued, his voice sending shivers down Sofia's spine. "So you're coming with me."

With speed, the figure reached over the counter, his clawed hand grabbing Sofia's arm in a vice-like grip. Panic surged through Sofia's veins as she struggled against his grasp, her heart pounding in her chest like a war drum.

Reacting instinctively, Sofia's hand darted to the gun on the counter, fingers wrapping around the cold metal with a desperate grip. With trembling hands, she raised the weapon and fired, the gunshot echoing through the arcade like a thunderclap.

Lizard Mouth staggered back, a look of shock crossing his grotesque features as the bullet tore through his flesh. With a guttural growl of pain, he collapsed to the ground, writhing in agony.

Tears streamed down Sofia's face as she pointed the gun at him, her voice trembling with fear and desperation. "Please don't make me kill you. Just leave."

But Lizard Mouth wasn't done yet. With a sudden burst of speed, he darted behind one of the arcade machines, muttering in frustration.

"Why do I have such a lame super? An F-rank power… I'm not even bulletproof against regular guns. I can't show up empty-handed I promised my boss a soul."

Digging into his pocket, his eyes gleamed with grim resolve. "Luckily for me, I have one of these… a Power Upgrade. I don't care about the side effects." With that, he plunged the needle into his own arm. "I'll show her," he growled through clenched teeth.

Across the city, countless dealers trade in illegal enhancements. Some peddle Power Upgrades dangerous injections that can multiply a person's strength but leave devastating side effects. Others deal in chemical compounds that induce intense psychoactive states, warping perception, eroding reason, and driving the user to instability and madness.

As Sofia cautiously approached the arcade machine, her voice trembling with fear, she pleaded desperately with Lizard Mouth to leave. But as the shadows danced behind the RK Machine, they seemed to twist and contort, taking on a sinister form. Suddenly, Lizard Mouth's body convulsed violently, muscles swelling and bulging as he underwent a grotesque transformation.

With a thunderous roar of agony, he burst forth into a monstrous, hulking form, his skin stretching and tearing as he grew into a towering alligator-like creature. The sheer force of his metamorphosis sent the arcade machine hurtling through the air, crashing to the ground with a deafening boom that shook the entire room.

Sofia staggered to her feet, her vision blurred as she tried to make sense of the chaos unfolding around her. Through the haze, she saw the massive, ten-foot-tall alligator in a mob gangster suit looming before her, its eyes glinting with savage fury as it snarled menacingly.

As Lizard Mouth's transformation reached its peak, his tail thrashed wildly, knocking over everything in its path with a deafening crash. His clawed hands extended, ready to rend and tear with deadly precision, while his reptilian eyes blazed with newfound power and madness.

With a triumphant roar, Lizard Mouth declared his newfound strength, his voice echoing through the chaos with a chilling intensity. "It worked! The drug gave me the power of a C-rank super!" His words reverberated like a sinister omen, sending shivers down Sofia's spine as she watched in horror.

But even as he reveled in his newfound might, a shadow of doubt crossed Lizard Mouth's face. "It's not gonna last for long," he muttered, his voice tinged with uncertainty. Yet, in that moment, his resolve only seemed to strengthen, fueled by a volatile mixture of adrenaline and desperation.

With a snarl of defiance, he raised his arm, gazing at the pulsating energy coursing through his veins. "No one can stop me now!"

But just as Lizard Mouth prepared to strike, a blur of motion streaked through the air. Out of nowhere, Adamus appeared, his foot connecting with Lizard Mouth's face in a swift and powerful blow.

With a bone-crunching impact, Lizard Mouth was sent hurtling through the air, crashing through the arcade's entrance. The force of the impact left a giant hole in the building, debris raining down as the creature disappeared into the street beyond. Sofia watched in stunned silence as Adamus stood before her, his presence radiating strength and determination.

"Are you alright?" Adamus asked, his voice calm and reassuring.

Sofia nodded, her heart still pounding from the adrenaline of the encounter.

"Thank you," she whispered, her voice trembling with gratitude. "But… who are you?"

Adamus stood before her in a sleek black-and-white homemade superhero costume. His form-fitting black suit was accented by sharp white patterns along the chest and shoulders, giving it a clean yet striking contrast. White gloves covered his hands, matching the tall white boots planted firmly on the ground. A long, flowing white scarf draped around his neck, trailing slightly in the air like a banner.

A black mask wrapped across his mouth and nose, cut in the style of a ninja's face covering, leaving only his eyes and hair exposed. His hazel eyes locked with hers steady, determined while his tight, well-kept afro framed his face with a quiet strength.

"You can call me Vajra," he said.

Sofia looked at him, recognition dawning in her eyes. "Is that you, Adamus?"

Helping her up, Adamus shook his head. "No, it's not, citizen. My name is vajra " he said in a deep, heroic voice, trying to sound like a superhero. Their eyes locked, staring at each other.

Sofia's smile widened into a radiant beam. "I will never forget those hazel eyes. I know that's you."

Feeling a surge of warmth, Adamus pulled Sofia closer, his embrace protective yet tender. "No, citizen," he declared in a tone that echoed with heroism, his voice carrying the weight of a newfound identity.

But before he could finish his heroic declaration, Sofia gently placed her hands on his mask and lifted it off. Adamus chuckled, the sound filled with a mixture of surprise and amusement. "Okay, you got me," he admitted with a grin, his eyes softening as he looked at her.

Their laughter intertwined in the air, creating a melody of shared joy. In that moment, as they stood there, their connection felt deeper than ever before.

Sofia's gaze lingered on Adamus, her eyes sparkling with curiosity and affection. "How... what happened?" she asked, her voice filled with wonder. She couldn't help but notice the subtle changes in his physique, the hint of newfound strength that radiated from him. "You have powers now?"

Before Adamus could respond, Lizard's mouth tail goes swinging towards them. Reacting swiftly, Adamus grabbed Sofia closely and dodged the creature just in time. The impact of the lizard's tail hitting the ground left a small crater behind.

With adrenaline coursing through his veins, Adamus rushed Sofia to safety behind one of the arcade machines. "I'll be right back," he promised, his voice filled with determination. "I'll tell you everything, I promise. You remember what I told you yesterday?"

Sofia nodded, her expression filled with trust and understanding. "Yes, Adamus," she said, her voice soft but resolute.

Adamus gave her a giant smile, his eyes full of reassurance. "Everything will be okay, I promise," he said earnestly. "As long as I'm here, I promise, no one will ever hurt you."

With those words, Adamus turned and dashed towards the looming threat of Lizardmouth. Sofia watched him go, her heart pounding in her chest as she knelt behind the arcade machine, her eyes fixed on the unfolding battle.

As the fight ensued, Sofia couldn't help but worry. "Please don't hurt yourself for me," she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible over the chaos.

Her fingers clenched tightly around Adamus's mask, the fabric a tangible reminder of the danger he faced. "You forgot your mask!" she screamed out, her voice desperate as she watched Adamus in the thick of battle.

Lizard Mouth walked back into the arcade store through the giant hole that Adamus had made from kicking him. Adamus stood there, his mask off, a defiant look in his eyes as he faced the menacing creature.

"How about you leave her alone, Lizard Mouth and you're not getting a single cent," Adamus said, leveling his finger at him.

Lizard Mouth responded with a growl, his mouth snapping like an alligator. "This isn't about money anymore. I'm taking her with me. And I'm glad you showed up, Adamus. You're the reason why I brought this Super drug to increase the strength of my powers."

Adamus furrowed his brow in confusion. "I don't know what you're talking about. My name is Vajra," he declared, trying to sound heroic.

As he glanced at the reflection in the store, Adamus suddenly realized he didn't have his mask on. "Damn, where's my mask?" he exclaimed, realizing his mistake.

Sofia, hidden behind one of the arcade machines, heard Adamus's. "Here's your mask, I have it!" she called out.

With a swift motion, she tossed the mask back to Adamus, who caught it gracefully. Without missing a beat, he swiftly placed the mask back on, his identity once again concealed behind the superhero guise of Vajra.

Lizard Mouth laughed mockingly. "What do you think? You're a superhero? Many tried and many failed. That's why there's only a few. And stop calling me Lizard Mouth. My name is Darrell Myers."

Adamus responds, "Daryl Myers... That last name sounds familiar. I think I have a kid in my class with that last name."

Adamus's jaw tightened, his eyes blazing with determination. "I am a hero, better than those other fake heroes that allow our cities and districts to be destroyed and do nothing. They only help A-rank and S-rank citizens and districts."

He paused, his tone softening. "And I'm sorry for calling you Lizard Mouth. I didn't know it hurt your feelings, especially to the point you would take a drug to get revenge."

Lizard Mouth's voice rumbled with frustration. "I am tired! Just because my superpower is from the mutation realm doesn't give you the right to make fun of me because I look different than everyone else. That's why I joined this mafia group. They support me, unlike the rest of the citizens in this city. So screw them, and screw you!"

With a swift movement, Lizard Mouth swung his tail at Adamus. Reacting at FTL+ speeds, Adamus dodged backward, narrowly avoiding the deadly strike. The tail swung toward his head, barely missing him, the rush of air passing his nose.

As Adamus regained his footing, he stood tall in his fighting stance. With a determined glare, he summoned his power. Him gather energy into a swirling vortex of energy. With a sudden burst, he unleashed a blast of vibrant green energy at Lizard Mouth.

The blast struck with precision, enveloping Lizard Mouth in a shimmering cocoon of pulsating green energy. But as Adamus focused and strained his body, the green energy began to change its form. Instead of forming a conventional shield, the energy manifested as a series of concentric spheres, resembling Spheres Within Spheres, akin to the layers of the Hopf fibration.

Each sphere spun around Lizard Mouth, creating layers of protection that intertwined and rotated with mesmerizing complexity. The innermost sphere hummed with an intense energy, while the outer spheres glowed with a softer radiance. Together, they formed an intricate lattice of green light that surrounded the creature, trapping it within a dazzling array of energy.

Lizard Mouth thrashed and roared, but the spheres remained resilient, their movement synchronized like a celestial dance. With each attempt to break free, the creature only seemed to entangle itself further in the web of energy, unable to escape the mesmerizing spectacle before it.

The monstrous creature struggled against his energy prison, his roars echoing through the arcade. Adamus watched with anticipation, expecting his unique shield to hold the creature at bay.

Adamus clapped his hands together. "Well, that was easy," he declared confidently. How ever, to his surprise, Lizard Mouth burst out of the concentric spheres, defying the intricate trap he had been ensnared in.

With FTL+ speed, Lizard Mouth's arm shot out, grabbing Adamus with a tense grip. He hurled Adamus outside of the arcade store, the force sending him hurtling into the sky. Adamus crashed into a car, leaving a dent in its frame, as a whole bunch of citizens watched in horror.

Among the crowd, murmurs broke out. "What's going on?" one citizen asked, while another exclaimed, "Not again, another monster attack!" Some expressed their fear, saying, "I need to get out of here. I don't have any superhero insurance."

As Adamus stood up in his fighting stance, determination burned in his eyes. Meanwhile, Lizard Mouth clawed his way out of the arcade store, standing tall and charging at Adamus with terrifying speed.

With a fierce battle cry, Adamus charged back at him.

As Adamus charged at Lizard Mouth, the monstrous creature swung a massive punch. Adamus dodged it with lightning reflexes, weaving and ducking as he delivered punches of his own, striking Lizard Mouth in the ribs. But Lizard Mouth only smiled menacingly.

"That's it," he growled. With a swift motion, he grabbed Adamus again and slammed him into the concrete ground. Adamus struggled to break free, his mind racing with disbelief. "Damn, how strong is this guy? I can't get out of his grip," he thought to himself.

Then, with light speed, Lizard Mouth began to rain down punches on Adamus with his free hand, each blow landing with bone-crushing force. Adamus's nose started to bleed as he struggled to endure the onslaught.

Sofia's head popped out of the arcade store, her voice filled with desperation. "Adamus, don't give up!"

With a determined look, Adamus gritted his teeth. " you're making me look bad," he retorted to Lizard Mouth.

Lizard Mouth's response was chilling. "It doesn't matter. You're going to be dead. Then I'm taking that girl with me.

Adamus responded defiantly, his voice carrying the weight of his determination. "As long as I am here, no one's hurting her or this district. By the way, thanks for the energy."

Lizard Mouth's confusion was evident in his response. "What are you talking about?"

With a surge of newfound strength, Adamus pushed his way out of Lizard Mouth's grasp. He leaped onto Lizard Mouth's arm and ran across it with agility, dodging his attempts to shake him off. With each step, Adamus closed the distance until he reached Lizard Mouth's face.

With a mighty punch, Adamus struck Lizard Mouth square in the face, the impact sending the monstrous creature flying backwards. The force of the blow stunned Lizard Mouth, leaving him reeling from the unexpected counterattack.

Adamus stood there, adrenaline coursing through his veins, as he marveled at his arm. "Wow, this absorbing energy thing is pretty useful," he murmured to himself.

In his ear, Adamus had a tiny earpiece, through which he heard his friend Dylan's voice. "Hey, Adamus, can you hear me?" Dylan's voice came through clear and steady.

Adamus grinned, relief flooding through him at the sound of his friend's voice. "Yeah, I can hear you, bro," he replied, his voice filled with determination.

Dylan's reassuring response came swiftly. "Relax, I've got Sofia covered. See me? I'm right by her. We're hopping in my ride. You focus on handling him."

Adamus nodded, his focus returning to the battle at hand. With a deep breath, he turned his attention back to Lizard Mouth, who was recovering from the blow Adamus had dealt him.

Lizard Mouth, still reeling from the blow, slowly got up, his suit torn and his expression filled with frustration. In his suit, he had a tiny radio, crackling with urgent voices.

"Daryl, what are you doing?" the voice from the radio demanded. "We're watching the news right now. We told you to grab the girl, but not to make a scene, especially not to take one of those damn drugs. Get out of there now!"

Lizard Mouth slammed his arms on the ground in frustration. "Why do I always mess everything up?" he muttered to himself.

Adamus, his heart heavy with sympathy, stepped forward. "I have a little bit of superhero hearing; I heard the conversation," he admitted. "They don't really see my good friends. You don't have to do this, man. Once again, I'm sorry for calling you out of your name, Daryl," he said sincerely, his hands outstretched in a gesture of peace.

Despite the chaos surrounding them, there was a moment of stillness as Adamus and Lizard Mouth faced each other, their eyes locked in a silent exchange.

"Lizard Mouth screams, 'You know nothing about my life!'" His frustration turned into action as he grabbed a nearby car and hurled it at Adamus. Adamus, with a backflip, dodged the car effortlessly, landing with precision as Lizard Mouth leaped away. "I need to get to the home base," Lizard Mouth muttered to himself.

Adamus stood there, determination etched on his face, ready to chase after Lizard Mouth. Suddenly, a cop car appeared, its sirens blaring as it pulled up in front of him. Two officers stepped out
