I shouldn't still be standing here staring at it but I am. The bracelet catches the light every time I shift, subtle and expensive in a way that doesn't scream for attention but still gets it anyway. It's not loud or flashy.
My fingers hover over it again, brushing the smooth metal before I pull my hand back like it burned me.
"This is stupid," I mutter.
It's just a gift That's all, except it's not.
Because David didn't send this out of kindness. He sent it because of last night. Because of what he saw, because of the way Alex reacted and now this is a move…a quiet one but still a move.
I exhale slowly and close the box, pushing it slightly away from me like distance will somehow make it less real. It doesn't.
I should tell Alex…...but why should I?
Why should I have to report something like this? Why should I feel like I need his permission to even acknowledge it?
I shake my head.
