Chapter 8 - The One I Don’t Name

I don't know why the ache remains,

why silence hums your old refrains.

The days move on, yet in between,

your shadow lingers, barely seen.

Your voice once lived in quiet light,

a calm that softened every night.

Now every dawn feels half-awake,

each breath a ghost i cannot shake.

I've learned that distance has a sound,

it hums beneath the life i've found.

It's in the pause before i sleep,

where memories stir but never speak.

We were a flicker, brief, divine,

a borrowed pulse that once was mine.

Too bright to last, too soft to stay,

and yet, I miss you, still, halfway.

Some nights the stars forget to gleam,

and i return to what we seemed

a tender myth, a quiet flame,

a truth i loved but never claimed.

Your name still hums through passing hours,

like rain that falls but never pours.

And though the storm has long been done,

its echo whispers, you were the one.

I see your traces in small things:

in gentle songs, in broken strings,

in laughter faint, in light that fades,

in warmth my solitude invades.

I've stopped pretending i don't care;

I only hide it with more prayer.

For love, once real, does not erase,

it only changes shape and stays.

So if you ever feel the air

shift softly, like someone's there,

that's me, unspoken, still the same,

missing the one i never name.
