She scooted backward on the mattress, propping herself up on her elbows, eyes locked on him. The movement was innocent, practical—but it looked like invitation. Like prey backing away from a predator who had already decided she was his.

He reached for the hem of his shirt and dragged it over his head, tossing it aside without a thought..
