Verion watched in silence as his friends were bound and dragged toward the cells by the guards. He knew he would have been one of them if he hadn't left when he did.
He didn't like what Dizon wanted to do. He didn't agree with any of it. The thought of him being a part of it scared him. He could be executed because of his friends.
Verion wondered how the guards found out his friends were going over to kill the human girl and her infant. Although he didn't want any part of it, he could have been arrested for not saying anything. If someone saw him with them when the guards were called, he knew they would come for him, too.
A shiver ran down his spine. A sudden fear washed through him. Verion looked around nervously. Every shadow presented him with the unknown. Was someone watching him?
