Chapter 1 - Solemn Vow: Adam the lawyer

The rain fell down on the roof of Adam's flat, it was midnight and Adam was trying to regain his sleep after working over documents regarding a civil lawsuit nothing major, he just wanted to ensure every case he got assigned he was going to ace, it was a case regarding two middle aged women who were engaged in a drunk driving car accident, thy other was blaming thy other for the incident neither of them willingly to admit guilty, worse even the seemed to be evidence that Adam's client was guilty because she had consumed alcohol before the incident, Adam was trying to find loopholes in thy other defendents claim, when he was certain that he had found a way to help his client win the case or get off lightly, he had made himself a snack and headed to bed, he was sure he heard footsteps outside his doorstep but ignored them remembering he lived in a block of flats with multiple occupants, therefore it could be any of his neighbors, he had switched off the light and entered his covers and fell asleep, three loud knocks banging on his door had jolted him awake, he hurriedly climbed out of bed, ran to the door opened it and saw there was no one. A quick look around told me him it could only be a dream, he locked his door and returned to bed unable to shake off a feeling of unease that was quietly creeping onto him, he quickly tried to regain his sleep by memorizing his defense for the following day at court, he would tell the magistrate that the defendent was emotionally intoxicated, a quick research of thy other defendent showed that the defendent had been just served divorce papers by her husband the morning of the accident, she had called her husband multiple times that day pleading for him to change his mind about divorcing, also the defendent was under a lot of debt, the defendents husband had been the breadwinner and therefore with the impending divorce, she was financially stressed, which is why she had sued Adam's client for the large amount she had asked for. As soon as Adam was certain he had a solid defense he propelled his head on his pillow and began to sleep, the rain poured loudly on his rooftop helping him gain his sleep easily. The following morning Adam dressed in his most expensive suit, a four hundred dollar discounted second hand Tom Ford suit, he casually flipped his brown locks back before heading out the door, black leather briefcase in hand, fortunately Adam lived in the CBD meaning the courtroom was only a few minutes walk from his residence, casually strolling he noticed in the corner of his eye a fat middle aged man following a few feet away, Adam didn't turn to look he just hurried his pace, living in the city and working as a lawyer despite being fairly green to the law scene, he had been taught well enough by those before him of the dangers being a lawyer interned, since starting work five months ago, he had been suckerpunched by a defendent, he had been spat on and had his life threatened on more than a few occasions, he was so accustomed to these behaviors he had thought himself how to handle himself during such situations, but though this current situation of being followed he was not accustomed to, he made it a point not to show it that he was panicked, until he reached the safety of the courthouse where he breathed a sigh of relief before pathetically looking around for his follower not finding him, pathetically Adam made his way to the chambers, of course he was early than everyone, that's how he operated
