Chapter 3 - full moons

Valzella took deep breaths, adjusted her glasses and leaned back to a sprint position on the track field. The whistle blew, she took off in a sprint, she ran as fast as her legs could take her (very slow by the way).

She was the last on the track, being spaced by a great distance by the last person before her.

She panted really hard, everyone watching booed except her best friend lupita who cheered her on.

She couldn't run anymore, she was exhausted, felt dizzy, nauseous and wearied out, she stopped to catch her breath but fell to the side, a snapped sound could be heard.

She cried out. Lupita rushed over to help her while the onlookers laughed and continued booing her.

"Ow! It hurts really bad!" She cried out having not seen the injury.

"Let me see" lupita said and checked her leg "OH, MY GOSH!" Lupita face turned pale at the sight she beheld.

"How bad is it?" She asked wincing in pain.

"A bone is popping out. HELP! HELP! THERE'S BLOOD AND BONES! HELP!" Lupita screamed at the top of her voice.

"Seriously?" Valzella asked in a sarcastic tone with a raised brow, she wondered what the deal was that made lupita yell out loud.

The medical team came, administered first aid then she was put on a stretcher and taken to the school infirmary, she groaned in pain throughout the day.

"Where is she?" Mrs Adolpha asked in a worried tone, she'd driven straight to the infirmary as soon as she got the news. She was shown valzella's ward by a nurse, she opened the door, lupita and valzella were chuckling over some jokes.

"Oh my!" She gasped when she saw valzella's leg in a cast.

"I'll go get you some fresh orange juice. Need them vitamins to heal fast!" lupita said and excused herself.

"Hi mom" valzella scoffed.

"I'm sorry about what happened, i..."

"Yeah, which wouldn't have if you hadn't insisted so badly that i participate in the stupid try outs!" She snapped at her mother.

"Honey i am so sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen..."

"Isn't it bad enough that i'm the weakest link in the lycanthrope order, The entire order in the history of lycanthrope. I am called an abomination mom, do i still need to confirm to the whole school that everything they say is true?" She teared up as she spoke.

"Hey... You are not an abomination, don't ever say that. Come here" she cuddled her while she cried.

"I just want to stop trying mom. Please, i've had enough" she said amist sobs.

"Yeah, you've done really great. I'm sorry for pushing you so hard. It's fine, you can stop now, it's okay." Mrs adolpha said.

Few more days and she was discharged, she had to be confined to a wheel chair cause she hadn't healed completely. Her mom and lupita came to take her home.

"After the full moon, you'll be good as new and you won't be needing this anymore." Mrs adolpha tried to cheer her up.

"Yeah, then i'll have to return back to school. Wonder what new name they'll carve up for me this time" valzella responded in a down tone.

"Whatever their stunted minds comes up with to call you isn't going to change a bit of who you are. You are the strongest lycaonia i've ever met, whether you transform into an ugly furry beast or not it doesn't change the fact that you're my best friend and i love you soooo much" lupita said.

"Awww that's so sweet lu. Really, who cares what they call me when i have the world's greatest gift as a best friend" they both hugged each other.

"See, that's enough positive energy to shut out the bad. Go girls!" Mrs adolpha smiled brightly.

"Seriously mom!" Valzella gave her disapproval.

"Yeah whatever." Mrs adolpha quickly changed her mood and feigned seriousness.

The three laughed.

"Hey handsome, got any plans tonight?"

Lupus looked up to see who it was. He's been keeping to himself since he got here. He missed his town, his friends, his lifestyle. He wished he could leave as soon as possible

"And you are?" He asked in an irritated tone.

"Luna Gretzinger" she introduced herself not minding his tone, she has heard a lot about his shenanigans in the south, so she was well acquitted with his spoilt, over pampered rich daddy's boy attitude. She extended a hand.

"The famous Gretzingers. Your great grandmother is famous for leading an all female alpha pack to battle and has stayed undefeated ever since." He said without looking at her. She took a seat next to him on the bench.

"You know your lycan history well. Impressive!" She said in a seductive tone.

"So tell me. Did you take after her wits or you just bear the name for free?" A sly look on his face indicated how proud he was, next to his father, he doesn't hold value for anyone else.

"How about you find out on the next full moon, lake forest. I'll be the only grey wolf under the moon light." she snickered and left.

The night of the full moon came and the whole school was in a frenzy. Full moons are celebrated more than prom nights at FIMCI, it's a special night for all creatures, werewolves or not, the students partied till day break and the following day is always a school activity free day.

The full moon came out in its bloom tonight and hung across the sky, liting up the night.

Valzella sat in the greenhouse at mrs adolpha's mansion, strapped to a chair, she anticipated the outcome of the night as always.

Unlike every other creature, full moons were her least favorite night due to the pains that spreads through her body on such nights. Her bones moved within her, each full moon causing excruciating pains.

It first occurred four days after her five years birthday, Mrs Adolpha thought she was finally going to transform to a werewolf and watched keenly for hours in anticipation but it didn't, she was disappointed it only made the little girl go through so much pain in vain. And It has been like that every full moon, the positive impact of it was the healing benefits that accompanied it.

The event of the full moon fixed whatever injury valzella sustained over the course of the month regardless how bad, she always come out all new after a full moon night, it was after a night like this she walked for the first time in her life at age twelve.

Tonight was the same as every other full moon, as soon as the moon was up, the pain started, she winced and groaned out loud. Mrs Adolpha sighed heavily as she heard her cries from her room, she felt pity for the girl, there was nothing that could be done, not even the best physicians had an explanation to what was happening to her, the gods went silent when consulted. It's a burden she had to bear alone.

She shut her window, transformed into her wolf form and left the house.
