The moon had begun to fade.
Each night, its silver light dimmed until even the stars seemed afraid to shine. The kingdom of Eldoria grew colder, crops withered, and beasts that once obeyed Kael now paced restlessly in the shadows.
It was as if the very curse that bound them all was… hungry.

1. Whispers in the Dark
Kael sat alone in the grand hall of his half-rebuilt palace. The moonlight no longer reached the throne—it stopped at the gates, as though forbidden to enter.
Lyra stood by his side, clutching the blood-red raven's message.
> "You've felt it too, haven't you?" she asked quietly.
Kael nodded. His reflection in the mirror behind her flickered—his eyes momentarily black, his teeth sharp as a wolf's.
> "The beast grows restless," he admitted. "But I can still control it."
Lyra frowned. "For how long?"
Before he could answer, the torches dimmed. A soft, mocking laugh slithered through the hall. The shadows moved—alive.
> "Control?" hissed a voice. "You were never meant to control it, my king. You were meant to feed it."
A dark figure stepped out of the flickering torchlight. Cloaked in torn silk, face hidden beneath a silver veil—it was the Sorceress, older and colder than before.

2. The Sorceress Returns
Kael rose from his throne, fury burning in his chest.
> "You've haunted my family long enough! What have you done to the moon?"
The sorceress tilted her head, her veil glimmering faintly.
> "I did nothing, Kael. You did. Every time you used your curse for mercy, you starved it. Every time you showed restraint, you weakened its bond to the moon. The balance is breaking."
Lyra stepped forward. "Then tell us how to restore it."
The sorceress's eyes glowed through the veil.
> "You cannot restore it, princess. But you can replace it."
> "Replace the moon?" Kael asked.
> "Replace the heart that feeds it," she whispered. "Every curse has a source. In your bloodline, that source has always been love."
Her gaze turned to Lyra.
> "The queen's love for beauty cursed you. The prince's love for mercy weakens you. But there is still one heart strong enough to balance the night."
Lyra felt her breath catch.
> "You mean… me?"
The sorceress smiled faintly.
> "The moon does not need to shine, child. It needs to remember why it shines. You are that memory."
Before they could speak again, the torches burst into blue flame, and the sorceress vanished—leaving behind only a single feather, black and silver, still warm.

3. The Crumbling Kingdom
In the days that followed, strange things began to happen across Eldoria.
The beasts no longer obeyed Kael's command.
The rivers turned dark beneath the dying moon.
And when the people looked to the sky, they swore they could see shapes moving inside the moonlight—like claws scraping from within.
Kael's heart grew heavy. The balance was slipping. And with every breath, the beast inside him whispered louder.
> "You cannot save them, Kael. You can only reign over what remains."
He clenched his fists, trembling, until Lyra's voice broke the silence.
> "Then let me try. If the moon's heart must be renewed, I will do it. I can bear what Mother could not."
Kael turned sharply.
> "No! The curse devours those who give themselves to it. I will not lose you too."
Lyra stepped closer, tears glinting in her eyes.
> "Then you'll lose everyone else."

4. The Mark of the Moon
That night, as Kael slept restlessly, Lyra climbed to the highest tower.
The silver feather left by the sorceress pulsed in her hand, glowing brighter the nearer she came to the moonlight.
She raised it to the sky.
> "If it is my heart you need," she whispered, "then take it."
The moon shimmered, responding to her voice. A beam of pale light broke through the clouds and enveloped her. Symbols of ancient runes carved themselves across her arms—burning, glowing, reshaping her flesh into light.
Kael awoke to her scream. He ran to the tower, just in time to see her body suspended in a storm of silver wind.
> "Lyra!" he shouted.
She turned to him, her eyes no longer blue but radiant white.
> "Brother… I can feel it. The moon—it's alive. It's calling to me."
> "Then fight it!" he begged.
But she smiled softly, sadly.
> "No. For the curse to end, one of us must become the light—and the other… the shadow."
The tower cracked beneath the roaring wind, and in a burst of brilliance, Lyra vanished into the sky.

5. The New Moon Rises
When the storm cleared, the moon above Eldoria was no longer dying—it was reborn.
A new silver crescent glowed against the darkness, pulsing with warmth and sorrow.
Kael fell to his knees, eyes burning with tears.
> "Lyra…"
From the horizon came a whisper, soft as a lullaby carried by the wind:
> "Protect them, brother. That is your crown now."
And as the first light of dawn kissed the broken palace, Kael felt the beast within him fall silent for the first time in his life.
But deep in the forest, the sorceress smiled beneath her hood.
> "A heart for a moon," she murmured. "And soon, a king for the dark."
