Chapter 2 - Vaelor Targaryen

(Third Person POV)

"Daella!" Vaelor entered his sister's chambers. "I brought some lemon cakes!"

He walked to her bed, seeing that she was lying down on her side, clutching a pillow. He set the platter of lemon cakes on the cupboard next to the bed.

"Vaelor....?" The young princess turned to look at him, "Is that you?"

Vaelor frowned, "Who else would it be?"

"Vaegon...." She said softly, "Your voices are similar."

Vaelor waved her off, "Don't compare me to that foul-mouthed fool." He said as he crawled atop the bed and plopped down on his back, staring at the ceiling, "What is on your mind, sister?"

Daella sat up, tears were in her eyes, "Vaegon said some mean things about me...." She said as she sniffed, "It.....it broke my heart, Vaelor..."

Vaelor rolled to his side and looked at Daella, "Oh, is that so?" He asked, "I heard something of the sort."

"He thinks I'm stupid." Daella looked down, "He doesn't like me."

"Vaegon likes few things." Vaelor said, "And people are not among them. He's just like that."

"He's mean." Daella said softly

"He's a cunt." Vaelor said suddenly

Daella looked at him, "D-Don't say that!" She said, "Mother will get angry!"

"Mother is not here." Vaelor sat up, "It is just you and I here, Daella. Cheer up, life is more than just dealing with a grouchy brother. We must take advantage of the short time we have in this world, especially when we are Targaryens! To take to the skies, above the clouds, and see the land beneath us.....it is what we are made for!"

"You speak like you're already a dragonrider...." Daella said

Vaelor scratched his cheek, "Hehe...." He said, "One day, though. I will have my own dragon, and I will become a formidable warrior! I have already begun my training, Aemon tells me I am good!"

Daella smiled slightly, "I see...." She said, "Well...."

"Want to go to the Dragonpit?" Vaelor said, a hint of mischief in his eyes, "We will be able to see Balerion, hehehe....."

Daella shook her head, "Mother won't allow me."

"Ah...." Vaelor said before getting off the bed and grabbing a lemon cake, "Here, eat something."

He handed her the cake. She took it in her hand and looked at it for a couple of seconds, contemplating whether or not to eat it.

"Vaelor....." Daella said softly

"What is it?" Vaelor said

"Do you think I will become stuck with Vaegon if we are married?" She asked him

Vaelor sighed, "Sister." He said as he reached for her hand, "Is that all you worry about? What did I just say? Life is much more than what we have going on here! We are young, there is no time to worry about this! For now, focus on the taste of this delicious lemon cake, and the day after, focus on spending time with our sisters. That is what we must do in order to persevere. There is no point in stressing about pointless things."

"Oh....I see...." She said softly, "Vaelor, do you think I am stupid?"

Vaelor chuckled, "Of course not." He said as he leaned towards her and kissed her cheek, "You're my sister, why would I think so lowly of you? I care deeply for you. Now, eat the cake and we'll go to the gardens later, okay?"

Daella smiled warmly, "T-Thank you...."

******************

"Have you apologized yet?" Jaehaerys asked Vaegon was he was sitting at the head of the table in his chambers, "Daella has been rather down as of late."

Vaegon was fidgeting with his fork, "Why would I apologize for speaking the truth?"

The King was eating a meal with his twin sons, Vaegon and Vaelor, who joined him as the rest of his family were attending other affairs. Jaehaerys wanted to speak to Vaegon about the incident with Daella.

"Hey, that's our sister you're speaking about." Vaelor said with a frown

"I see no point in me being married to such a dunce!" Vaegon said with an angry tone

Jaehaerys frowned, "Vaegon." He said, "She is your sister."

"Like that makes it better." Vaegon said, "Daella is not fit to be anybody's wife, you just refuse to accept that, father."

"Enough." Jaehaerys said, "You will apologize to her."

"Apologize to a fool like her?" Vaegon asked, "I will not."

"What is your problem?" Vaelor asked, "Why would you even dare to speak that way about our sister?"

"I only speak the truth!" Vaegon exclaimed, "If a man wants imbeciles for offspring, he can procreate with Daella! She is stupid!"

"You speak like you are some sort of Arch-Maester or something." Vaelor scowled, "You're no older than her, Vaegon!"

"I am far more intelligent than her." Vaegon said, "If you really think I will marry her willingly, then you are sorely mistaken. I'd rather be an eunuch."

"Do not speak that way." Jaehaerys said seriously

"I am merely speaking my mind." Vaegon said

"You will not do such a thing in front of me, Your King." Jaehaerys said with a frown, "Especially when it concerns your sister."

Vaegon stood up and smacked the table, "I will not marry her!!"

"Calm down." Vaelor said, "We're all still young, there is time for Daella to grow and get as smart as you want her to."

"I don't care." Vaegon said, "I have no interest in her."

"Vaegon, that is enough." Jaehaerys said, "Go to your chambers if all you will do is speak ill of her."

Vaegon scowled and turned around, "If Vaelor wants her, give her to him."

Vaelor was drinking water from a cup when he heard this, "Oh yea?" He nearly spilled some on him, "I'll gladly take her if it means keeping her away from you, you white-haired prick!"

Jaehaerys sighed, "Vaelor....."

Vaegon turned back around, "What did you say?!"

Vaelor placed his cup down, "You heard me!" He shouted, "You're a miserable little shit, you know that???? If you weren't my brother, I'd already smashed your face in, Vaegon. You call Daella a stupid fool, well you aren't so bright yourself!"

Vaegon's face went completely red, "Curse you!"

"No, curse you!" Vaelor said as he stood on the chair, "I am a Prince of House Targaryen! I will become a warrior and a Dragonrider one day. Even if I am nowhere near at the top of the succession to the Throne, I will become someone worthy enough!"

"You're nothing but a worthless shit, Vaelor!" Vaegon exclaimed

"If that is what I am, then that is what you are as well, brother!" Vaelor pointed

"Boys...." Jaehaerys said, completely annoyed yet defeated

This was one of the usual arguments that the twins would always have. It didn't matter what sparked it, the two would yell at each other before one of them leaves angrily. The tension wouldn't last a single day and the two would be tolerant of each other like nothing happened.

"You want to marry Daella, fine!" Vaegon said, "I will study at the Citadel to become a Maester, smarter than you and my other brothers combined, Vaelor!"

"Go ahead and try it!" Vaelor said, "You won't even make it a whole month! Idiot!"

"Neither will you!" Vaegon responded, "A single week married to her, you will beg for death!"

"Fuck you!" Vaelor said

"Vaelor...." Jaehaerys said, "Watch your mouth."

Vaelor ignored him, "I will marry Daella and I will make her happy!" He pointed at Vaegon,

"All to spite you!"
