Xavier's POV:
I spent the rest of the night keeping my eyes trained on her—my little Alpha. She didn't look at me once. The whole evening, she barely spared me a glance. Instead, she was hunting for someone else, her eyes scanning the crowd like she was looking for a treasure hidden in plain sight. Raven, I bet. Of course, Raven. Even though that stupid girl wasn't even there, somehow, she was still managing to capture Alex's attention, making sure every damn thought of mine was clouded by her presence.
I should've killed Raven. I should've ended it all when I threw her into the fountain. But no, I let her live, and for what? For Alex to still be focused on her.
What did I do wrong? Was I not obvious enough? How was she still not able to understand how I felt about her? Fifteen years we've known each other, and she still hasn't learned to read me. It was frustrating. So frustrating. But tonight… tonight I was going to fix that. No more playing around.
