KARTAVYA

'Time for action, K'

Kartavya sat in his sleek black Mercedees Benz car and put the call on speaker while starting it.

'I'm sorry to cut your celebrations short K, but Pratham worked out the details of Sansanwal's plan to launder the money tonight and I had to call an urgent meeting.'

'Don't worry about it Jeeva, I was anyways leaving the party, I'll be at the location in thirty minutes', and he hanged the phone.

The location was a warehouse on the outskirts of Delhi. Once a factory area, now it was Y.A.M.A 's spot for a team meeting. Five years ago he along with four other people who had faced some of the cruelest monstrosities of the society but still sailed through the storm and remained tough and resilient , formed a secret association, the Y.A.M.A, and joined hands together to serve justice, Vigilante Justice, against those who escaped owing to their status in society, corruption by our leaders and most importantly by silencing the victims.

Kartavya still never got the rationale behind extraordinary delay in justice, criminals being granted with freedom whilst no redemption to the victim, and more often than not the poor or middle class not being able to afford the extravagant trial fees or worse when they are killed before a fair trial.

The perpetrators have devised various loopholes and under the table tactics to checkmate any action that might be taken against them, along with owing to Red Tapism and bribery in the world it is not entirely unusual for a gross rapist, heartless human trafficker, corrupt official or any other heinous criminal to be a walking freely just beside you in a park or buying a house in your neighborhood or even holding a political position in our country.

And he is aware that this is not the case due to the lack of laws but rather for the poor execution of these laws. They just remain a codified document when a minor girl is being raped in some part of our country which is not even reported, or a man is murdered and is disposed of in a river because he dared to expose this sham of a justice system.

And that is when Y.A.M.A takes matters in its own hands when the society fails to render punishment to the darkest and worse worms of our community.

He drifted his attention back on the road and turned the car towards the service road which led to the warehouse parking. He took a lift to the first floor and walked towards main room which was security protected and whose access required a 10- digit passcode which changed every three days and a retinal scan.

The interior was polar opposite to the outside shabby condition of the warehouse. The interior included Italian marble flooring, with black filmed floor to ceiling windows, with the plushiest leather sofas and couches, oval mahogany conference table with chairs, a smart TV, a modular kitchen, spare bedrooms and washrooms, high speed internet connection, fully stocked fridge and last but not the least a wine bar which held mostly imported bottles of fine wine.

Kartavya moved towards the tech room and found two of the members surrounding Pratham, who was facing three large monitors and quickly moving his fingers on the keyboard.

Pratham was an ordinary software developer at a tech firm during the day but a swift, smart and exceedingly clever world class hacker by the night who using his hacking skills could make tons of money and easily create havoc in anyone's life but here at Y.A.M.A used his aptitude and skills to serve the cause of what is right.

Jeeva, a prosecution lawyer whose name was feared amongst the criminal world circle, spotted him first.

'Guys, Kartavya is here'

'Kartavya heartiest congratulations man on winning the award' Moksh or rather Dr. Moksh Sharma said to him, he was an ENT specialist who was a very proclaimed doctor and a man with the heart of gold, sometimes Kartavya wondered why Moksh agreed to join the Y.A.M.A despite being in a profession that demands them to save innocent lives, keyword being innocent, but everyone here had their fair share of life experiences and he was no one to judge one's past when he himself was no saint.

'Thank you, Moksh'

'Yup you totally slayed it tonight, Kartavya, but don't worry the night is about to get even bigger with what I have found out, take a seat' Pratham said.

'Where is Aria?'

Jeeva made a tch sound. 'Will you sit and listen first.'

Pratham started to speak even before Kartavya could sit on the chair, 'So for the past one month we have been following Pankaj Sansanwal, the banker who manipulated bank account records in his bank franchise The Sansanwal bank and caused the account holders to lose their deposited money and the remaining amount to freeze about three months back. I did the math and all the money adds up to roughly about 700 Crore belonging to the people and additional 130 crore as the interest amounts on it.'

'Alright but there was no proof of falsified records found during the investigation, right?'

'True, but that does not mean it did not occur' Moksh said.

'Yeah, that son of a bitch got a bit creative with playing hide and seek with the money.' Jeeva added.

'What do you mean?'

Pratham spoke next 'What they mean is that after keeping close tabs on all his financial records I got to know that about 830 crore was deposited in an account in the Swiss bank under his driver's name almost 32 hours after the freezing of people's account. He then kept himself out of limelight by not touching the amount for over 90 days thereby evading under the government's nose and now just like a dirty rat steps out of the hole at some point, he too made a move, and I was fast enough to decipher it.'

Kartavya listened patiently, keeping the aggression building inside him at bay, he couldn't wait to get his hands on that man who played with the lives of so many people who trusted him with their hard earned and deserved money.

'Tonight, he's laundering a big chunk of that money in a private party at the casino and then convert it into white money through pre-decided game fixing. Once the money is converted and into his bank account, he will be answerable to no one as all of it will be legal transaction. No one will know except for the close associates and the casino's manager whom I'm sure will be taken care of by Sansanwal.'

'This is ..... I don't even have words to describe the condition of those lakhs of people who will be still in hope of any redressal after tonight, not even knowing that Pankaj Sansanwal will probably be in another country by the tomorrow noon with all their money now being his, it is so fucking despicable.' Moksh said his knuckles turning white with holding the handle of the chair with force.

'Imagine the condition of a father who deposited the money for his daughter's marriage or perhaps a mother who would have used her money to pay for her child's study loan or the state of a son who would have needed the money to get treatment for his ailing parents or maybe a couple who dreamt of buying a house they could call their own, countless dreams shattered, lakhs of people now lost in a disarray of hopelessness. All because of one greedy bastard and his thirst.' Jeeva exhaled a long breath after saying and was no less vexed.

'The worst part is that Sansanwal Bank's tagline is 'Where every dream has a destination' what a fucking hypocrite that pig is.' Pratham spoke with disgust dripping from his voice.

Kartavya himself felt disgusted with the dichotomy of it all and wanted to smash the computer screen with that motherfucker's smiling fucking face on it.

He broke the silence 'Guys let's keep our minds open and think the plan through, we only have tonight to stop him, once he is overseas it will be almost impossible to bring him down. Pratham, can you get us three invitations to the party at the casino where the laundering will take place?'

'Yes, already done that, I have got you, Jeeva and Moksh the invitations under a pretentious identity and set false bank accounts with digital money in them. Aria will directly reach the spot and take account of the perimeter of the property and will be on standby if anything goes out of control inside the casino. Remember the transfer from Swiss account to his wife's account which he will use to transact with at the casino, is scheduled at 1 am you have to finish the business in the time window itself.'

Kartavya noticed Pratham was avoided eye contact and scratched his neck, 'What are you hiding Pratham?'

His eyes shot up to meet Kartavya's 'How do you know that?' Pratham sighed and said something under his breath.

'I didn't quite catch that ' Jeeva spoke.

Pratham murmured something again.

'Yup didn't catch it this time also, Pratham either you are losing your voice, or I am becoming deaf which one is it huh?' Jeeva encountered again.

'WHAT. ARE. YOU. NOT. TELLING. US. PRATHAM.' Kartavya spoke with more conviction this time.

'The window is of 15 minutes after which the money will become white and legal' he said in one breath. Leaving all three of them staring at him blankly.

Moksh finally cut through the silence and said in a nonchalant tone 'Okay, so Pratham you want us to not only make an acquaintance of Sansanwal, secure a seat on his table, play poker that too try our damnedest to loose maximum bets, inform the authorities to catch him red handed, wait for them to come and then last but not the least to leave the party without being caught playing illegal poker ourselves, who do you think we are, mission impossible's cast ?'

'Or Hrithik Roshan from Dhoom' Jeeva added.

(pls don't forget to vote, do make the star icon brighter just like your aura my sparklies.)

'Is there no way to increase the limit?' Kartavya questioned.

'No, the Swiss bank will be carrying it out, although I can hack into their server, but it may cancel the transaction altogether...'

'And it's a risk we can't take' Kartavya finished for him.

'Let's think carefully we have the invites secured and If we reach 30 mins prior to game I could talk through the seat arrangement with my bet of a flashy amount and then I could convince Sansanwal that Moksh and Jeeva are someone in my knowledge, Pratham will record the transactions and anonymously call the authorities, Aria will help us in escaping and finishing the business.'

'Yes! that's the spirit, Kartavya. Also, guys bonus point I changed the theme of the party before the invitations were sent and now it's a masked party, just in case someone recognizes Jeeva and Kartavya, although it wouldn't be a problem for you, right Dr. Moksh' Pratham said with a hint of amusement.

'Ha Ha so funny, look everyone's laughing.'

Jeeva stood up and snapped her fingers drawing attention 'Alright stop it you guys, let's quickly groom ourselves for the party and then departure for casino, in the meantime Pratham inform Aria the plan and discuss other technicalities and keep us updated.'

Moksh and Kartavya got up and Pratham turned his attention back to the screen.

'Brace yourself friends we have a poker night to attend and a fraudster to deal with. Let's go.' Kartavya declared.
