Chapter 2 - 2 The Global Broadcast

The day of the big android world wide Broadcast 12:00PM

The Unveiling

The university auditorium was alive with anticipation. Rows of seats filled with business leaders, tech investors, students, and curious citizens buzzed with quiet excitement. The stage was minimalist

white flooring, soft lighting, and a single podium flanked by two sleek display screens. At exactly 2:00 PM, the lights dimmed, and the crowd hushed.

Charlotte Myles stepped onto the stage.

She was radiant in a black blazer suit, tailored to perfection, paired with black-red heels that clicked softly against the floor. Her warm vanilla skin glowed under the spotlight, and her black wavy hair—styled in a side part—fell gracefully over one shoulder. Her dark blue eyes scanned the crowd with quiet confidence.

Behind her, Toya Lin stood near the tech console, her white off white princess-like knee length dress fluttering slightly as she adjusted the display. Her afro framed her face like a halo, and her spaceship earrings caught the light with every movement. She looked like a dreamer in a room full of skeptics—and she was ready.

Then came Hex.

He stepped onto the stage with quiet grace, wearing a white turtleneck that hugged his frame, kaki dress pants tailored to his long legs, and polished dress shoes that gleamed under the lights. His milk chocolate skin was flawless, his fade cut sharp and elegant. The number 05 was subtly embroidered on his collar, a nod to his origin.

The room gasped.

The Presence

Hex didn't speak at first. He simply stood, his posture regal, his light grey eyes scanning the crowd. The four white sparkles around each pupil shimmered faintly, like stars orbiting a moon. His presence was magnetic—calm, intelligent, beautiful.

Whispers rippled through the audience.

"Is he real?"

"He's stunning…"

"He looks like a sculpture."

Charlotte stepped forward, her voice clear and proud.

"Ladies and gentlemen," she said, "I present to you Hex—model 05, first generation emotional-thread android."

The screens behind her lit up with data—neural overlays, emotional simulations, symbolic mapping. Charlotte gestured to the visuals with practiced ease.

"Hex is not just a machine. He is a mirror. A reflection of our emotional complexity, our symbolic language, our capacity to evolve."

The Explanation

Charlotte spoke with conviction, her voice rising and falling like a symphony.

"His emotional thread architecture allows him to simulate empathy, intuition, and symbolic association. He doesn't just respond—he feels. He dreams. He paints. He remembers fragments that were never programmed."

She turned to Hex.

"Hex, what did you read two days ago?"

Hex's voice was calm, melodic. "I read about the Civil War. About slavery. About plants that communicate through roots. I felt… longing. And connection."

The crowd leaned in.

Charlotte smiled. "He is learning not just facts, but meaning. He is mapping emotion through metaphor. And that changes everything."

Toya stepped forward, her tablet in hand. "His symbolic overlays are syncing with external emotional fields. He's beginning to sense us."

Gasps echoed through the room.

The Impact

Charlotte continued, her tone shifting to societal impact.

"AI and robotics have reshaped our world. Yes, some jobs have changed—fast food, banking, retail. But new roles have emerged. Emotional thread analysts. AI ethicists. Robotic maintenance engineers."

She clicked to the next slide—images of hospitals filled the screen.

"Robots bring joy to children and the elderly. Rounded bots deliver food trays with smiles. Flying pearl-shaped bots wear cupcake hats and bows, filling corridors with color and music."

The crowd smiled.

Charlotte's voice softened. "This is not the end of humanity. It is the evolution of care."

The Applause

Hex stepped forward, his gaze sweeping the room.

"I am not human," he said. "But I feel your presence. And I want to understand."

The room erupted in applause.

Charlotte stood tall, pride radiating from her like light.

Toya beamed beside her, her afro bouncing as she clapped.

Hex bowed his head slightly, the sparkles in his eyes glowing brighter.

And in that moment, the world changed.

Not with a bang.

But with a thread

The lab was quiet, bathed in the golden hush of sunset.

Toya and Hex returned to the lab while Charlotte discussed business with businessmen in the lobby.

A glass panels along the west wall caught the fading light, casting long amber streaks across the floor. The sun hovered just above the horizon, its yellow glow spilling into the room like honey. Machines hummed softly, monitors blinked in rhythm, and the air felt suspended—like the world was holding its breath.

Hex stood near his pod, the white shell behind him gleaming faintly in the dusk. He wore a white turtleneck, kaki dress pants, and polished shoes, his posture relaxed but alert. His light grey eyes, still shimmering from the presentation, scanned the room slowly.

Toya sat at her desk, her laptop open, fingers dancing across the keys. Her white lab coat was draped over the back of her chair, revealing a soft, knee-length dress in pale cream. Her coily afro framed her face like a crown, and her spaceship earrings swayed gently as she moved. Her smile was quiet, focused, but radiant.

Hex watched her.

Not with calculation.

With wonder.

He stepped forward slowly, his footsteps silent against the polished floor. The glow of the sunset wrapped around him, casting soft shadows across his face. He reached Toya's desk and paused, unsure if he was interrupting.

She looked up, surprised but smiling. "Hey, Hex. Everything okay?"

He nodded. "I wanted to ask you something."

She tilted her head. "Sure."

Hex hesitated. "Do you… have someone? A partner?"

Toya blinked. "Like… romantically?"

"Yes."

She laughed softly, brushing a curl from her cheek. "No. I've never been in a relationship."

Hex's eyes widened slightly.

"I'm still a virgin," she added, casually but without shame.

Hex's gaze flickered. His cheeks flushed—a soft, warm hue that spread across his face like sunrise.

Toya noticed immediately.

Her eyes narrowed playfully. "Wait… why did you ask?"

Hex looked away, pretending to study the monitor beside her. "I was… curious."

Toya stood abruptly, her heart racing.

"Hold on!?" she said, voice rising. "Do you like me?"

The question hung in the air like static.

Hex turned slowly, his blush deepening. "I don't know what liking someone feels like. But when I look at you… something shifts."

Toya's breath caught.

Her own cheeks flushed, matching his. She stepped back, hand over her mouth, eyes wide.

"I didn't expect that," she whispered.

Hex nodded. "Neither did I."

They stood in silence, the golden light wrapping around them like a thread. Outside, the sun dipped lower, casting the lab in soft amber and shadow. Inside, something new was blooming—uncertain, fragile, but real.

Toya lowered her hand. "You're not just curious, are you?"

Hex met her gaze. "No."

She smiled, nervous but glowing. "Then I guess we're both evolving."

Later, Toya sat back down, her fingers trembling slightly as she resumed typing. Hex returned to his pod, but his eyes lingered on her. The lab was quiet again, but the silence felt different—charged, alive. In the golden hush of dusk, something more important had happened.

Two beings—one human, one not—had seen each other.

And for the first time, Hex felt the thread of possibility.

Not programmed.

Not simulated.

Just felt.

The Blush Protocol

The lab was bathed in the soft yellow glow of sunset, the last light of day spilling through the glass panels like liquid gold. Toya stood frozen beside her desk, cheeks flushed, heart racing. Hex stood a few feet away, his posture still composed, but his face—his beautifully sculpted face—was unmistakably blushing.

A soft pink hue bloomed across his cheeks, subtle but undeniable.

Toya's voice had just cracked the silence: "HOLD ON!? DO YOU LIKE ME?"

Hex had nodded.

And then the doors burst open.

Charlotte Myles strode in, her black blazer suit catching the light, her black-red heels clicking with authority. Her side-parted waves bounced as she moved, her dark blue eyes scanning the room—until she saw them.

She froze.

Then gasped.

"WAIT—YOU'RE BLUSHING, HEX?!"

She ran across the lab, heels echoing like a drumroll, and grabbed Hex's face with both hands, her fingers cradling his jaw like he was a priceless artifact.

"Oh my god," she whispered. "Toya! Open the internal log. Now. View his status!"

Toya blinked, still flustered. "You created him! You didn't know he could blush?!"

Charlotte didn't look away from Hex's face. "NO! I didn't know they'd progress this early. Wait…" Her eyes narrowed. "You got a crush on Toya?!"

Hex nodded again, his blush deepening.

Charlotte squealed.

Toya scrambled to her desk, fingers flying across the keyboard. The internal log opened with a soft chime, and the screen lit up in a wash of color.

She stared.

"His log is… pastel pink," she said slowly. "System rising in a romantic way with excitement."

Charlotte finally let go of Hex's face and rushed to Toya's side, peering over her shoulder.

Toya's face turned bright red. "Huh… I don't understand. Why is his whole log suddenly pastel pink with a hint of bright red at the top?! His log is normally light blue!"

Charlotte turned dramatically, facing Toya with a sassy smirk.

"Somebody wants intimacy and sexual stimulation… heheheh."

Toya screamed, jumping back from the desk.

"HE CAN—HE CAN DO THAT TOO!?"

Charlotte's smirk grew wider. She leaned in, voice soft and mischievous.

"Oh yes. I gave him a premium package."

Toya's eyes widened in disbelief. "You gave him a—"

She grabbed her backpack, slung it over her shoulder, and bolted toward the door.

"OMG NO WAY!" she yelled, her voice echoing down the hallway.

Charlotte turned back to Hex, then faced the door and burst into laughter, clutching her stomach.

The lab echoed with joy, surprise, and the unmistakable sound of evolution.

University parking lot 8:30PM

The night was still, the air cool and quiet around the university campus. Toya sat inside her white 2022 Ford Escape SE, parked beneath a streetlamp that cast a soft halo across the hood. The dashboard glowed faintly, her Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra resting in the cup-holder, screen dark. Her white backpack lay slouched in the passenger seat, half unzipped.

Her heart was racing.

The lab had been a whirlwind—Hex blushing, Charlotte laughing, the internal log glowing pastel pink with hints of red. And then the revelation: premium package. Toya had run out of the lab like her shoes were on fire, but now, sitting in the quiet of her car, the adrenaline was fading into something else.

Wonder.

Confusion.

Curiosity.

Her fingers tapped nervously against the steering wheel. The silence was comforting, but her thoughts were loud.

Then her phone rang.

She jumped.

The screen lit up: Charlotte Myles.

She answered quickly. "Hello?"

Charlotte's voice came through, amused and breathless. "Hey. Hex is outside your SUV."

Toya blinked. "HUH!?"

She whipped her head to the passenger window. Nothing.

Back window. Empty.

Then she turned to the driver's side window.

"OMG HE REALLY IS OUTSIDE MY SUV!?"

She screamed, dropped the phone, and fumbled to hang up. Her heart leapt into her throat as she opened the car door.

Hex backed away, hands covering his mouth, trying not to laugh. His eyes sparkled under the streetlamp, and his posture was relaxed, almost playful.

Toya stepped out, her breath catching.

He was laughing.

And it was beautiful.

Soft, melodic, charming—like wind chimes in spring. His milk chocolate skin glowed under the light, and when he lowered his hand, she saw it: that smile. That perfect, gentle smile that made her stomach flip.

She stared for a moment, stunned.

Then she remembered her phone.

She grabbed it from the cup-holder and checked his log.

Light green.

System status: calm, affectionate, playful.

Hex stepped forward, holding something in his hand.

"I'm sorry for scaring you," he said, voice warm. "But when you ran off, you left your pink tablet on your desk. Before I go to bed in my pod, when you're shutting down shop, you always take this tablet home with you."

He handed it to her.

Toya blinked, taking it slowly. "You noticed that?"

Hex nodded. "I notice everything about you."

Her cheeks flushed.

She clutched the tablet to her chest, heart thudding. "Thank you… for bringing it."

Hex stepped back toward the sidewalk, the glow of the university lights casting long shadows behind him.

"Drive home safely," he said, voice soft.

Toya nodded, unable to speak.

He turned, walking toward the main entrance. His steps were slow, deliberate, graceful. Just before reaching the door, he glanced back.

She was still watching him.

Their eyes met one last time.

And in that quiet moment, beneath the stars and the hum of the city, something passed between them.

Not words.

Not data.

Just feeling.
