Chapter 7 - Check mate.

Leo Pov

I stand in the hallway, the cool marble floor a difference to the fire in my veins. My heart is beating hard against my ribs.

"Dad? Are you alright? I thought I heard a crash or something." Maya's voice, so full of love and trust, is a knife to the gut.

I force a smile, a mask I've worn so long it feels like my own skin. "Your dad's right, Maya. It's been a long day. We were just talking business, and he seemed a little lightheaded. I was worried."

David glances at me, and I see the controlled fury in his eyes. He hates me. He hates that I know. But he also wants me.

Maya smiles, her relief palpable. "Oh, that's good. You had me scared for a second. You need to take better care of yourself, Dad." She turns to me. "You're a good person for looking out for him."

I place my hand on her arm, a silent, venomous smirk playing on my lips. "Anything for your father, Maya."

He turns and walks away, a rigid, military-like posture to his back. A shudder of power follows him. He thinks he's in control. He thinks he can just walk away. He can't.

The night was filled with tense air and quick glances from David, I can see the way he fights hard to hide his desire but he is not careful enough.

I want to be something he can't help but crave, to feel addicted to, I want him to desire me just like I do and all I need is a matter of time to make him feel the tightening in my chest I get whenever I can't feel him close

The night ends fater than I wanted it to and David did not just leave but disappeared like he could not stand me anymore

I left my home with Maya in my car heading to drop her at her dorm,

"Babe do you think my dad likes you?" she looked at me with hopeful eyes, how I do tell her that her dad doesn't just like me but has shown it different positions.

"I think so, I can't actually tell he is your dad after all"

"I know but I just want him to like you as much as I do"

I glance at her, feeling a little bit guilty for doing this to her, all she has done was being the best girlfriend I can ever ask for but my heart and dick doesn't come alive for her but for her dad

I give her a small smile and squeeze her tighs, after that we stayed in a comfortable silence till I dropped her at her dorm.

" I will see you later babe, and don't forget about the fundraiser happening in a week time"

" Yeah I can't forget, bye babe" I kiss her cheek and watch as she steps out of the car, with a final wave I drive off to my dorm.

---

I toss my jacket on my dorm bed. The fluorescent light is a difference to the dim world I just left. Chloe, my best friend, is hunched over her laptop. She doesn't even look up.

"You're acting weird. Again. Did something happen at the dinner?"

"No, nothing. Just… tired."

She closes her laptop, her eyes filled with concern. "Don't lie to me, Leo. You're not sleeping. You're not eating. It's like you're a ghost."

A ghost. David's words. He has no idea how right he is. I am a ghost. I haunt him, I watch him, I follow him. And soon, I will possess him.

She sighs, a sound of frustration. "What's going on, Leo? What's with the weird hours? The new suits? You're obsessed with something. Don't act surprised, I know when something new catches your eyes and you don't stop till you have it."

Leave it to Chloe to crack me up like a case but I can't tell her. Not the whole truth. "I've just been taking a new route to class lately."

"Yeah, one that takes you past a certain office building? I saw you." Her voice is firm. "You're not just a fan, Leo. You're not one of those teens that go crazy over a celebrity they like. This is something else."

I clench my jaw, the muscles in my face tightening. She's too close. "Look, Chloe, I can't talk about this."

"But you're hurting yourself. And Maya. What are you doing?"

"I know what I'm doing." The words are cold, absolute. "I know the risk. I know the shame. But it's worth it. All of it."

She shakes her head, her face pale. "You're scaring me."

"I know what I'm doing so don't be scared, this is still the same Leo you know" she looks at me, shaking her head while grabbing her gadgets and leaving the room.

I watch as she shuts the door with a loud bang as she leaves, a deep sigh escapes my mouth. She is always difficult

I walk to my bed, pulling off my heavy clothes and lay on the bed, I grab my phone, a message in the drafts. A message to Robert. A small, anonymous tip about a weakness in David's security. A seed of doubt that will grow into a poisonous tree.

I then send a quick message to David. I thought it was meant to be a one-night thing. 😉

I am David Petrov's weapon, his weakness, and his downfall. And I will not stop until he is mine.

---

The club is a maze of bodies and sound. I walk in, the bass a low, thrumming beat. I had no plans of coming here but I got a little tip that someone is too far gone trying his best forI scan the room, my eyes searching, and then I see him. He's at the bar, a glass of scotch in his hand, his back to the room. He's a storm. And I am the lightning rod.

He turns, and his eyes lock with mine. The surprise is fleeting, replaced by that familiar, delicious fury. I walk toward him, the crowd a sea of strangers I don't care about. I stop a few feet away, my hands in my pockets, a casual smile on my face.

"What a coincidence, Mr. Petrov," I say, my voice a low, teasing whisper. "Running into you here."

His eyes narrow. "Don't call me that. You're playing a dangerous game, Leo. This whole thing you are doing will not just affect me but will affect you, I hope you are ready for the consequences"

"Am I?" I step closer, the scent of my cologne a subtle reminder of the night we spent together. "Or are you the one who's in danger? You seem… agitated. Oh and I am ready for the consequence if it means I will have you in my bed every night then fuck everything else."

I can see the way his body tensed up from my words, I know the way I make him feel and I will use it against him till he breaks.

"You're the one who sent the message," he says, his voice a whisper of pure venom. "What do you want? What's your game?"

I lean in, my face inches from his. "There's no game, David. I just wanted to remind you. You're not the only one who can't sleep at night. I think of you more than I have ever done for anyone or anything. I imagine your hands on me, pounding into me, your eyes showing me that side of you that only I can bring out"

He flinches, the words a direct hit. He hates that I know him so well. He hates that I can see through his mask. I let a slow, triumphant smirk spread across my face.

"This is not a fairytale," I say, my voice a silky drawl. "It's a chess match. And I'm just getting started. I want to watch as you crumble and beg me, if you think you are in control then please sign up for the next clown show."

I turn and walk away, melting back into the crowd. I am a part of his life now. He is a part of mine. And there's no turning back.
