Chapter 92: Of Water, Want, and the Things That Lurk Beneath

Morthen inclined his head slightly when I asked, fingers folding neatly over one another as if he had been waiting for that exact question.
"Water demons," he began, voice calm and instructional, "are often misunderstood because people insist on categorizing them by location alone: seas, rivers, lakes. But that is… insufficient."
I leaned back in my chair, one leg crossing over the other. My headache had dulled to a manageable throb thanks to the snack—singular, tragic snack—but my interest sharpened immediately.
"Then how should they be understood?" I asked.
"By psychology," Morthen replied without hesitation.
That alone made me straighten.
"Water," he continued, "is not merely an element. It adapts. It reflects. It yields—or it drowns. Water demons follow the same principles. Their habitats form around how they hunt, what they desire, and how they interact with others."
