I was shocked that he would say that, not exactly excited, as I watched him leave my room with a slight look of disappointment, masked by his cold demeanor.


I wasn't sure if I should feel relieved… or terrified.


Because Cassian never gave without reason. The wedding night flashed before my eyes, how he had made everything perfect just because he wanted to have his way with me.


He hasn't ever given me without wanting something in return. He never loosened his grip unless he was tightening it somewhere else. He didn't offer privileges; he dangled bait.
