The meeting room is dark and sealed in silence, broken only by the low hum of the projector. Pharmaceutical charts scroll across the screen—global markets, future acquisitions, projected profits—but none of it truly reaches me.
My gaze stays fixed forward, sharp and unreading, while my mind drifts somewhere far away.
It's been more than a week since I left the country on this business trip.
More than a week since I last saw my kitten.
The projector clicks. The screen fades to black. Lights flick on one by one, washing the room in cold white.
The meeting is over.
I don't wait.
I rise immediately, chair scraping softly against the floor, and head straight for the door. My patience is already stretched thin. Every second here feels stolen from me—wasted time when all I want is to see him.
"Mr. Vale."
A hurried voice stops me.
I pause and glance back. Mr. Kwon follows after me, adjusting his tie, polite expectation written clearly across his face.
